Glad you checked it out! I agree that it's not the most melodious track, but I love the raw power of it. Joe Talbot (the singer) is really fun to watch. He has some songs where he sings in a more straightforward way (as others have mentioned), but the intense, barking prose is definitely his staple. I will say that following the lyrics with this band make the songs more impactful.
The QOTSA comparison for this tune is interesting. I get it tho. Idles have some of my favourite lyrics ever in their tune "Never Fight a Man With a Perm" (which is also an outstanding title)
Idles are the best punk band to come out in the last 10 years or so. Their album Joy As An Act Of Resistance is outstanding and there are many gems on the other albums. If you arent a punk fan (Im not a prog fan...no hate), this might not be your band. That said, while there are 20 songs by Idles that are better than "The Wheel", they DO all sound like punk music.
It's probably the least melodic Idles track, but it's certainly by design. I feel like the absence of chord progression leaves you longing for a change, representing the cycle that you want but can't break. The unhinged emotional vocals is a visit card of this band, though.
Idles live is one of the craziest gigs I’ve been to. Totally nuts.
These guys are amazing, please check out more of their stuff!

You should chek also their Beachland Ballroom from the basement. That singer actually can sing
First song I thought of when thinking of "singing" Idles songs/

Oh and they also pissed a lot of people off by trying to get the crowd at Glastonbury to chant "fuck the king" ❤
Do you like noise? Try Gilla Band. Pure danceable noise.
