Thank you! My Kobo Glo died today, after ten years of daily use. I was so sad to lose my trusted friend, but your review helped me find my new Kobo! Excellent review, and happy reading!
@@dfxdfx5368I’ve been using the new one since I posted. You won’t regret it, it’s very similar. The only thing I miss is having the hard light button on the top, I found it handy when my husband would turn off the bedroom light without warning me to turn on my backlight. Although the touch screen light button works just fine.
@@ennvee1989my glow was getting laggy before it died too. I’ve been using the Clara 2E since posting and I don’t regret it. It’s pretty much the same just little faster and has the Bluetooth option. The only drawback was the glo had a physical light button on the top of it. So I could pick up my Glo in the dark and turn on the backlight. For the Clara you use the touch screen to turn on the backlight. So I have to turn on my bedside lamp to see where the backlight switch is. But then the trade off is it is a more advanced backlight with day and night settings and a bit better readability. Overall I would still strongly recommend.
Thank you Maneetpaul for this Review. Based on it, after significant searching for options and narrowing it down to better reviews, and after watching your video above I've ordered/purchased a Kobo Clara 2E! My wife already is a Kobo fan, having had a Nia for some time. This review and your other Nia-Clara 2E comparo video convinced me that the Clara 2E is the way to go. Due for delivery in 4-5 days, I can't wait to receive it now! Thanks again.
Thank you so much for this! I was just about to buy a Kindle last week, but then I found your channel, and I realized that the Kobo is perfect for me as a Libby user who doesn't care for KU. Can't wait to use my Kobo! :D
I have been wanting to get back into reading. Haven't read in about 5 years or so? I decided I wanted to go the Ereader route. After hours of watching reviews and comparison videos of Kobo, kindle, and nook I landed on the Kobo Clara 2e. Ultimately it was down to the kobo Clara 2e or the kobo libra 2. The kobo Clara 2e had a decent black Friday sale which made it about 60 dollars cheaper than the Libra.. that pretty much made the decision for me! Looking forward to getting it in the mail soon!
Thank you so much! I want a simple e-reader (no need to take notes like you can with more expensive ones). This will be perfect! Thanks for publishing this review, i will buy this!
I really like that blue, its a great color. One thing I've never liked about any E-reader that has it is a blank off screen. I really don't like the look of it, I much prefer the option to have the book cover of the currently reading book there. I read pretty much fiction, mostly big fantasy epics and I take a ton of notes on my kindle. I like to put my thoughts on what might happen or theories about things while I'm reading and its always fun to go back and look at those after I've read it all to see how things played out. I've been reading on a Kindle Paperwhite (10th) but I am going to upgrade to a new Oasis, once its theoretically announced soon.... Very excited for USB-C charging as my current one still has micro USB. This Kobo looks okay, similar to my paperwhite but I'm too deep into Amazon with all my books there to consider switching I think.
Kobo has long had the option of having the cover of your current book as your screensaver and Amazon introduced it a year or so back. As for the Oasis, there's no new model due to be announced. That was just the Good eReader site doing its usual thing of inventing stories for clicks and views. They've promised twice in the past that a new Voyage was imminent, and they also said the new Oasis was coming out on 12 October.
As Andy mentioned, Kobo has had the option for displaying the book cover as a screensaver for a long time now (before Kindle introduced that as a feature). I choose to use the minimalist option because I like the look of it, but the setting is there to change it! Regarding a new Oasis, it's all speculation at this point. I hope we do see one soon, though. I'd love for that to be a little end-of-year surprise!
Yea, I just switched from a 10th gen Kindle to the 2E. It used to take the whole day for my Kindle to charge via the micro usb, and it was also very finicky, sometimes I'd have to plug it in and out a few times, and wiggle it to get it to work. But the main reason I moved to Kobo was to be able to change the sleep time. I often get distracted and I'll pick up the phone to google something, or look at a map for the book I'm reading, and I'd just get back to the book, and be near the end of the page, and it would go to sleep. It annoyed me so much that if I was given a free Paperwhite, or Oasis, I probably wouldn't even use it..
God I wish that Amazon would take notes and put the power button on the back of their devices! I have the Paperwhite Signature and it’s so annoying accidentally hitting the power button. This Kobo seems like the perfect hardware for me, small and compact which makes it easier to hold especially while lying on my back at night (the Paperwhite is kinda heavy to hold) but the only thing stopping me from switching to Kobo is that Kindle has better software and the fact that I already have so many books downloaded from the Kindle store. So I’m guessing I’m going with the latest Kindle Basic model that just came out. 🤷♂️
So true. I have no idea why Amazon continues to place their power buttons on the bottom. The Kindle software and ecosystem is hard to replace once you're in it!
Thx for reviewing Kobo devices! I am in Canada and our library books cannot be accessed by Kindle. I am always borrowing library e-books, and Kobo can access all of them. I am in Toronto with one of the biggest library systems in the world, and the highest e- readership last year of any city library system worldwide. Kindle is a non- starter for this reason. And I do not need to increase Amazon’s monopoly power. I prefer reading on an e- reader to reading on my IPAD, even though I think the Libby IOS app is brilliant. I think a lot of people don’t understand that an e- reader is more like reading a physical book, with the low glare and excellent battery, and light weight.
@tor2162 Do you access library books with Overdrive on the Clara2E? In another comment by @richardlukewelsh they say that Overdrive doesn't work with Clara2E
I agree with what you said on note taking. I love note taking, and it doesn't feel smooth on kobo Clara 2E. I cant really type very well unless I'm very sure I pressed the icon. I have mine in dark mode and never really noticed the ghosting until you mentioned it. Probably just me because I don't really pay too much attention to that. Although the note taking has been my only issue. I was also very surprise at how good the build quality is. I expected it to feel like the Kobo Libra 2, but it feels properly encased, which to me feels better if that makes sense.
I think the ghosting is less noticeable in dark mode. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with note-taking issues. Totally agree about the build quality!
@@Maneetpaul You can also manually refresh the screen anytime you want by double tapping the screen, didn't really have to adjust the refresh rate in the settings :D
I'm super late to this video, but something that improves the highlighting speed and page turn speed is converting EPUB files to KEPUB files, which are specifcally designed for the Kobo. KEPUB files have noticeably faster page turns and highlighting. hopefully this is helpful for someone.

hi,friend. could you please tell me whether Kobo has the fuzzy search, which no need me to input the exactly vocabulary with correct spelling or same form of the word. it can show up all context related to what I input , like the pase tense, plural form or phrasal word. thanks.
Yes, it does!! I read many library books on my libra 2 and haven't had issues with it. The only thing is because of the format the page numbers don't line up with the actual pages on the reader ( I'm for 3 pages on 182 for example), which can be a struggle if you want to know how many pages are left in a chapter. But the font and size are changeable
I bought one a few days ago for reading library books on Overdrive. But I’ve since confirmed with Overdrive that there is a bug in which you cannot access overdrive at all on the device. Which means no library books can be downloaded directly to the device. Super disappointed as this was the main reason for buying it. Anyone else had this?
Hello Maneetpaul. I've been reading on my android device and contemplating about buying an ereader. Almost decided on a kindle PW until I heard about kobo. Also, I have several books on my android device /PC (epubs and pdfs) which I'd like to transfer to the e-reader. Is it possible to do it via android using the kobo app? As I'm staying in India, kobo isn't available locally and may have to be shipped from Singapore or elsewhere. Having said that which would you recommend? I'm thinking on the clara 2e.
So, on my Oasis, I realized that when the built in light isn't on, the 'page' only looks white when the light is bright, and gets greyer as the light diminishes. Could you do screen comparisons without the built in light on as well? I'd be much happier if the display were 'whiter' using only a dim lamp, rather than the built in light. Libra 2, hands down! Clara 2E: - missing rotation sensor and landscape mode - missing page buttons and ability to turn pages while holding with one hand as well - have much thicker bezels in relation to the screen size - missing three font types (gill sans, malabar, and caecilia) - has 16GB of storage, while Libra 2 has 32GB - comes in any color you want, as long as you want it in black with a blue backing
Ive yet to see marketing material covering text books per se. Magazines, fiction, childrens books, library books. When finding textbooks on Amazon, you see frequent opportunities to buy with Kindle. Of course Amazon and Kindle are linked. But what about Kobo shedding light on learning / academic materials. If this is not the right tool, why not say so?
I tried the Kobo Clara 2E and wanted to free myself of Amazon, but I am in total shock at how buggy and utterly broken the software is: After starting in sideload mode, the device always showed some strange pre-installed book series that weren't from me and couldn't be deleted, because they were empty. But there are two pages of unknown authors and book series on the device. Even after several factory resets they're appearing as soon as the WiFi is connected and must be a remnant from some previous owner even though it's a brand new device or there is a bug in the Rakuten cloud with the device ID for unregistered devices. Other people on Reddit seem to have similar problems. I then went through the actual setup with a Rakuten account and then signed out again and deleted the fake account. This worked for two hours and afterwards these strange (empty) book series reappeared. An automatic firmware update did not update the latest firmware for some reason and was only installed through calibre. The next problem is that the thing crashed repeatedly and just freezed on the three dots screen. And after a while it automatically did a factory reset, which is probably a fail safe which wipes all settings and books. It's unbelievable. Why does this happen? It has problems with a simple USB connection half the time and USB 3.0 ports seem to work only on each fourth try or so. Also just unplugging the device without safely ejecting it (which nobody does ever) apparently corrupts the database. The final nail in the coffin was that I spend 2 hours with Calibre and the KoboTouchExtended plugin to get covers to sync, but it's just not working no matter what I sync and do. They look fine in the calibre library and after a sync even in the devices tab, but not on the device itself. I cannot really grasp that this is so complicated to update a book cover in the current year. I am really baffled at the alpha state of the software and I guess I have to live with the shitty new UI after a forced update of my old Kindle Paperwhite after all. It's such a shame, I'm not even going to bother trying out KoReader and will just return the device. The hardware seems to be fine, but the screen of my unit has some bright spots on the lower corners.

Please can you tell how can i cancle my kobo subscription ?
I tried the Kobo Clara 2E and wanted to free myself of Amazon, but I am in total shock at how buggy and utterly broken the software is:
After starting in sideload mode, the device always showed some strange pre-installed book series that weren't from me and couldn't be deleted, because they were empty.
To small for reading.
It's actually quite enjoyable. This will definitely be one of those things that's a personal preference.
no one has ever read on a 6inch e-reader before...it just can't be done
