That part at 4:11 about the 49MPGE is incorrect. That's not what MPGE is. MPGE is an efficiency rating of the vehicle when it is in electric mode. It doesn't have anything to do with range. MPGE is how EVs are rated. As an example, the Tesla Model 3 is rated at something like 140MPGE. It's a formula that is derived from the Mile per Kilowatt Hour efficiency. The EPA created MPGE as a way for consumers to have an apples to apples comparison of energy usage. It is not a "combined" rating or anything like that. As for when the battery hits the less than 1% mark, it never truly goes to "gas only". It stays in hybrid mode. It continues to find opportunities to charge and will still occasionally operate in electric mode even on long trips.
I bet they had it in 2wd. The 4xe is significantly faster in 4h-auto. 4h-auto is my daily drive setting for a number of reasons, and the performance is one of the benefits.
I'm actually very interested in seeing what the 4xe can do. Especially if someone in the aftermarket finds a way to increase torque output of the electric motors and an additional battery pack for range. The 392 will be king but it also comes at a king's ransom. The overlanding crowd could end up with a do-all rig that can be daily driven, power any / all camp accessories, and could still crawl with the best of them if the torque can be "modified" through software. As a side note it'd be awesome if the 4xe could be continuously trickle charged via solar. It'd be possible to go overlanding and barely use fuel. Food for thought lol.
if you want your children and grandchildren to have fresh water to drink, you'll drive that hemi to a scrapyard, that rubicon 4xe is an offroad king buddy got one with the one touch convertible touch, put a 2.5 inch lift with 35's, had to order a custom driveshaft and yokes, its incredible its a convertible rubicon with more power, 2024 jeep will be making every model a hybrid, can't wait for the gladiator rubicon hybrid
I’m going on a long trip want to upgrade the shocks. Will put a roof rack on and have bikes on the back hitch. Can you provide the best shocks to get so it does droop.
Super impressed and my initial impression is it is a very well thought out vehicle. The quality is way above my 17’ Sahara. Keep it up Jeep .. great ingenuity and American innovation !
There is a lot of misconception about gas mileage and plug in hybrids. The Motortrend article was terrible. If you buy an EV and your goal is to drive long range without charging your buying the wrong vehicle. If your driving lots of city commutes under 25 miles and can charge between? You will likely come out way ahead, depending on your electricity costs. We have put 4K miles on our Pacifica Hybrid and have only put has in it three times. Our last fillup was 800 miles ago and we have over half a tank left. It’s all about how you drive and charge. Gas is about $3 a gallon here now and rising weekly I just ordered my 4XE and can’t wait.
I was told that the batteries are never really drained on the 4Xe, therefore always giving you those power figures, so I don't know how MotorTrend was able to say the 4Xe gives less mpg when the batteries are drained if this is the case. I have my 4Xe for several months now and my mpg says well over 30.
In case nobody has mentioned it the rumor is the best 0-60 performance happens in "4wd auto". At least according to a Jeep 4xe tech presentation by Jeep Integration Manager Dan Fry.
I have a 2021 jeep 4xe I can get 78.3 mpg with the Hybrid system you have to learn how to drive it to be able to save all that feel I love my 4xe I paid 68k for it and it’s really good I drive a lot so every 2weeks I put $55 on gas an gas is 6.19 right now in Los Angeles but on my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6 I was putting like 100 every 3days so I am saving money now but You need to buy a level 2 charger I was going to buy a 2021 Toyota Highlander hybrid but only was going to give me 36mpg so I got the jeep 4xe because it said 49mpg so it was my best car to buy Everyone should get one
On a drag race, you need to be in 4HAuto and start in manual first gear. You will notice the difference. You can switch to Drive after you are going,. Try it, you will like it.
These videos have been extremely helpful for a complete beginner like me to understand how to do my jeep build correctly. Can someone rate my setup? I've got a 2021 Wrangler unlimited 4xE Sahara (thankfully the 4xe has the D44 as standard so I don't have to worry about axles). Upgrades: Highline rubicon fenders Wheels- KMC Grenade Crawl wheels 4.75 backspace 0 offset Tires- 37 goodrich k02s suspension lift- teraflex 2.5" RT2 short arm kit shocks- falconSP2 3.3 adjustable ..... am i missing anything or am i way off on anything? Any feedback would be extremely extremely appreciated :)
My girl and I each bought one of the 4xe, both Sahara Mall crawler editions. I got the white and she traded in her 2013 Sahara for a Snazberry. I love the thing and the $7,500 tax credit makes it cheaper than a gas Sahara with all the same options.
I have 3.5’ teraflex lift on my gladiator. Using falcon 2.1 shocks, upgraded front and rear sway end links and adjustable track bar...my problem is the teraflex sport front lower control arms are making a loud rubbing noise and it’s embarrassing to say the least. I have people tell me all the time. Nice gladiator but what’s that sound...🙄🙄🙄
A lot has to do with mode, etc. it is faster in 4wd high auto (which is an everyday drive mode) than rwd only mode. Also it defaults to just be electric off the line, even in hybrid mode, so either power brake to get the engine running before take off or it might also work to do it in eSave mode. Upper 5’s and low 6’s have been achieved using those techniques (see post and video by Wrangler4xefans)
I'd consider it if you can legally and easily rip the hybrid stuff out when they reach their end of life. IMO, Jeeps are supposed to last forever and my fear is the hybrid will be much more expensive/complicated to keep on the road.
I know Teraflex is all about making their videos kind of cringe and awkward and all, but this actually gave some really good information on the 4xE and it actually makes me kind of excited to see one in person. I’m not entirely sure yet if electric is truly going to be the way of the future. But maybe in 20 years or so when charge times and range and weight of it all go down significantly I’d possibly be interested. As long as I can still wheel the heck out of it!
REALLY curious to see how those numbers (50 MPGe, 22 all electric) change as you add upgrades. Keep these videos coming! P.S. I’m wearing my Teraflex tee shirt today!
It’s super complicated to really convert apples to apples. Basically on electric let’s assume 400 Wh/mi (that’s worse than a Tesla, which real world is around 330)... so basically it’s 2.5 miles per kWh. At 12 cents a kWh, compared to 20 mpg, it roughly translates to the equivalent of paying for 8kwh of electricity for the equivalent distance. So it’s basically the same as paying $1/gallon for gas. (Motor trend did the math wrong-check the comments on the motor trend article he’s referencing) After that, it’s like a normal engine weighed down another 800 lbs, so call it 8% worse fuel economy than normal, adjusted for regenerative braking recapture. So if you drive 10,000 miles a year and half your miles are only in town (ie all electric) and the rest are highway, you get “250 gallons worth” of electricity for $1 a gallon, then have to buy another 250*0.08= 20 more gallons for road trips than you otherwise would have. At $4/gallon it saves you $670 a year.
Awesome! Lift it then create a custom trailer for it that carries enough batteries in it so you can go crawling and camping on a two week vacation without refueling or recharging, please. Solar panels on the roof are OK.
It’s a hybrid so you theoretically could run it 100% without plugging it in as the engine and regenerative braking will give back some charge to the battery for eTorque, etc, but you won’t be getting the full advantage of the vehicle if you don’t plug it in. However, that makes for a good combination in that around town I get great advantage. But, since you don’t HAVE to plug in, I can still take long trips without worrying, I just suffer a dip in overall gas mileage. I’m liking my 4xe so far.
After driving the 4xe today I can confirm those very short drag races. Off the line my 2L is definitely quicker to get going... but if you were doing a full sprint to 60mph that 4xe should quickly catch up and overcome the 2L (which is definitely quicker than the 3.6L my 2L replaced). 60' times in the 2L would be better though. Sorry Ecodiesel owners... but you do have the slowest of the bunch (but not like anyone buys a Wrangler for speed... even a 392. Many better options out there for that price). Good video and will look forward to seeing what you folks do to it!
There is a right way and a wrong way to drag race a 4XE. You have to be in 4 High Auto with traction control off. Brake torque it and you will sink into the seat. It launches off the start line

I placed my order this week for a white 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4xe. Test drove one last week, amazing amount of power, good build quality.
Nice job. I did some 6 second 0-60 runs today. Not disappointed.
Did u have it in 4H?
Always entertaining Mr. Wood. Great work team.
Thank you for all the specs, I can’t wait to see what the aftermarket has in stored for the 4xe
Same as whats already available for any non 4xe.
3:02 Something is not right with the 4xe you're driving. There is absolutely no way a 3.6 v6 or the 2.0 turbo should be quicker than the 4xe 🤔
I bet they had it in 2wd. The 4xe is significantly faster in 4h-auto. 4h-auto is my daily drive setting for a number of reasons, and the performance is one of the benefits.
“Strange sounds coming from your Jeep” lmao so true
I have a Sahara 4xe and it’s beautiful I love it .. maybe my next will
Be the rubi 392 hmmm 🤔
Great video, would love to see some longer drag racing.
I'm actually very interested in seeing what the 4xe can do. Especially if someone in the aftermarket finds a way to increase torque output of the electric motors and an additional battery pack for range. The 392 will be king but it also comes at a king's ransom.

Please give our customer service team a cal at 801-713-3314!
I can't wait to see how these get built and how it affects the electrics!
Thank you. I wonder how long it will take for something like this to come to the 2dr.
Super impressed and my initial impression is it is a very well thought out vehicle. The quality is way above my 17’ Sahara. Keep it up Jeep .. great ingenuity and American innovation !
Great video. just wondering were did you Get the metal jeep on the table? Thanks
Did you drag in 2h or 4a? It’s tuned to be a dog in 2 and it’s much much quicker in 4a. In 4a it would smoke all of those except the factory hemi.

When can we lift it?
Interested to see it on the trail in electric only mode.
Hey which color blue is that jeep, hydro blue or chief clear, its beautiful.
That is the Chief Blue!
Thank you for the info. Great video!
Excellent Video - Thanks for taking the time to fully explain the entire Hybrid System along with the comparisons! :)

You should do Voice Overs for Hollywood.

When will a Diesel specific 2in lift be available for my 21 JTRD?
There's a guy named Brandon that takes his to a drag-strip and the results are mind blowing !!!!
I love mine !

Did you have it in hybrid mode and the all wheel drive mode? this accel testing was bogus.
Hello Dennis great video review. I take it that you’re not too fond of the 4xe mpg ?
I’ve been told that it averages combined in hybrid mode 33.5 mpg
Always have me ROFL....and with information too!
49mi.range w/battery and engine? Why did you say that? @4:20,,were you high
So what is that color?
First comment, I’ll take it! I am not really sure what to think about a hybrid wrangler, but it sure would be fun to try out!
Getting one this weekend. Can't decide on one-touch sky or hardtop.

Is it available yet?
Please give our customer service a call at 801-713-3314!
Batteries under the back seat remind me of the fuel tank under the drivers seat in my first cj5. I don’t think I want my kids sitting back there!
A lot of “great” reviews out there, nice to finally see a “real” one. I can’t wait for the “electric only” trails signs to start popping up 🙁
Pretty cool that Jeep is going green, but I”ll stick with the 392. 💪💪
You get max power in 4H Auto with Traction control off.
One of the worst reviews of the 4xe I’ve seen yet. Nice 0-60 test, who’s driving the 4xe, your Grandma?? Sheeesh.
Hmm im not so sold on it anymore. Thought it be quicker then it is. The range is nice tho.

“No torque converter” I wanna see if it can do some long sustained crawls.
240v @16amp will take 4-5 hours to charge. 240v @32amp is 2.5 hours
I'd consider it if you can legally and easily rip the hybrid stuff out when they reach their end of life. IMO, Jeeps are supposed to last forever and my fear is the hybrid will be much more expensive/complicated to keep on the road.
I just bought one, and I’m taking it back! I’ll just stick with my old JK. I’m very disappointed with Jeep and these dealerships! SMFH😕🖕
Pinewood derby flashbacks.....

78.3 mpg on my jeep 4xe

Other RUclips reviewers are getting much better 0-60 than this. Wonder why?
On spite of the dad jokes, this was the best review if this 4xe out there.
PS Stallantis says no charging required. Can you test that?
It’s a hybrid so you theoretically could run it 100% without plugging it in as the engine and regenerative braking will give back some charge to the battery for eTorque, etc, but you won’t be getting the full advantage of the vehicle if you don’t plug it in. Your explanation of MPGe is simply wrong. Also your acceleration tests dont seem to line up with other observed performance of the 4XE.
I'm getting 24.7 combined
Wood out...........Noice!

I appreciate you not having the annoying RUclips voice 😀 I can’t stand that voice and can’t watch those videos lol
Ohhhhhhh
Ahhhhhhh
Too much mouth noise, fix your sound
Never paid any attention to the 4Xe now I can go back to not paying any attention to the 4Xe!
Not for me. I'll take the Smiles per gallon Please!
Shoulda skipped making this and gone straight to the magneto
Over priced!
