Some of the stronger ND filters like the ND16 and ND32 showed a difference but it wasn't huge. The polarizing filter made a slight difference also but not enough to warrant the $70 price of these. I would venture to say that the sensor size has a lot to do with this. Thank you for sharing this video. Great content as always
To put on a polarizer is only half the work! The reflected light of water and glass oscillates in a plane. So you have to rotate the filter for maximum damping.
since im shooting fishing videos i dont need ND but exclusively CPL filters to get rid of water surface reflection and so far judging from your review freewell has done a good job with cpl filter.I hope they also release a max lens mod filter too
With the PL filter on I can see the fish beneath the lake surface; without it on I cannot see them. The sky clarity and blue does not appear to be much difference however. Maybe it was not a very hazy day.
There's a difference with and without the polarized filter. Without you cannot see the fish in the water, with it on you can! Simple test fish sponsored
Bro I like the orange light better on the talking head shot. And by the way, is your wall gray, or is it just the lighting? And would you recommend me to shoot in front of a gray wall if I want to shoot cinematic talking head shots like you? You see, I can't afford a grid for my softbox to darken the background, so I'm thinking of painting my walls light gray.
The stabilization of the gopro doesn't work properly when nd filters are on. Motion Blur is cool but shaky, badly stabilized footage neutralizes this effect. Do you have a solution for that?
@@Romafedorov thanks for your reply! Another option could be realsteady go, you know that software? Somewhere I read that the app would use the gyro data of the gopro to stabilize the footage in post. You know anything about that?
GoPro needs higher shutter speed for hypersmooth best quality. When we use right Nd filter (180° rule) we lost stabilization. I use ND 8 and auto shutter speed for add some motion blur, without lost stabilization.
Watched a video on PolarPro ND filters for Hero9 and FreeWell's looks way easier to install and especially "uninstall" to switch filters than PolarPro. Thanks for the demonstration.
Lens flare on 8 and 32. 8 looks worse than auto. 16 is great if not super bright. 32 , I'd bump up the ev by one notch. Wanted to see the 1000. Polarizer is garbage, is it adjustable or something? Thanks😃
Thanks for sharing...... Nd filters are great for bright scenes but, Hypersmooth really needs to be off to get those buttery smooth shots using the 180-degree rule. Thanks again. 👍😊
Thank you! Let me know please original lens and freewell nd is same size ? I am already ordered freewell and awaiting my order, I want to print TPU mount for my GoPro, can I use dimensions of original lens ?
Could anyone tell me.... I have the GoPro Hero9 with the Freewell filter set. Is there any reason why I would not want to replace the factory lens with the polarized filter in regular situations (filming indoors, filming outdoors in changing conditions). I was out on a ride today and there was a lot of glare but I had just been filming inside and didn't have time to change the lens. I am wondering if I should just leave the polarized on all the time when I am not use one of the other filters (which I am not sure how to use yet). I live in the PNW and the amount of sunlight we have changes constantly but there is almost always some sort of glare, usually from water features.
No, in low light you can lower your shutter speed without overexposing the image. ND filters are best to use in bright daylight conditions, so you’ll be able to achieve the most natural amount of motion blur in your video without overexposing it.
Привет . Норм так сделал обзорчик. FreeWell хорошие фильтра. Но как видно на Вашем видео, только от 32 картинка нейтральная или придется настраивать Баланс белого. Полярик как то не впечатлил. @@Romafedorov alright.. The small amount of feedback online about this, is confusing. Most people advocate for the Polar pro lenses for example, because they are indeed compatible with it. Lots of filters seem not to be compatible with this mod.
Please don't spread the "double framerate shutter speed" thing, it'll make people's 48-60fps footage look bad. Shutter speed is how much motion per frame is being captured, it doesn't scale up or down with frame rate because frame rate is how MANY frames are captured. Natural motion blur happens in the 1/40th to 1/60th of a second range, so if people are shooting with the intention of using ANY of that footage for full-speed/real-time playback (IE not strictly JUST for a standalone slow motion shot) then their shutter speed needs to be in that range, _regardless of frame rate,_ in order to have natural looking motion blur. Another thing to consider is the country you're shooting in. If you're in a PAL area with a 50hz power frequency, artificial lights will flicker on camera if either your frame rate or shutter speed isn't some even divisible or multiple of 2x that frequency. So if you want to shoot 24 or 30fps in a country like that, it'll only work with a 1/50th of a second shutter speed. Conversely, if you want to shoot 25 or 50fps in an NTSC country with 60hz power lines, they'll only work with 1/40th or 1/60th for 25fps, or only 1/60th for 50fps. Sadly, 60fps can't be filmed in a 50hz country as the next compatible shutter speed is 1/100th of a second, and that will not have natural motion blur as the shutter is too quick.
Also, yeah, I can see a difference with the polarizer. The fish are visible beneath the surface of the water with it on. All of the indirect reflections are reduced.

I think to get the best results when u use ND filter on a gopro, u should disable stabilization & use a gimbal instead.
Totally agree with that!
I agree with you ! for best result disable the Electronic stablisation and use gimbal w/nd filter

ND8 is still very bright, ND16 is slightly better and yes ND32 is the best footage and color saturation.
I like the motion blur, but in the same time everything is blurred

The polarizing filter allowed you to see deeper into the water but it looked like a small area in the center of the screen
bro, high quality video right there!!
Good video. So which filter would be best for the beach on a sunny day? Polarizer or n32?
ND 16 was the best. Polarizer filter allowed me to see the fish in the water. :)
Is this filter waterproof and resistance from splash around the pool or beach? Does the coating last ?
Is it bettwr than polarpro?
Are ND filters worth it for fishing videos? Or would I be better off just getting a polarized lens for the glare of the sun on the water? Thanks
ND filters are not worth it for fishing videos. All you need is a good CPL filter! Cheers!

Emm... what about EV settings when using ND filter?
Did freewell down grade the filters from the hero 7 version? Still listed for 100$ and look different.

How I wish there is a variable ND filter for GoPro Hero9...
You can buy a lens ring adapter for Gopro Hero 9 and purchase a 52mm circular variable filter for the DSLR

No
is it water resistant when place in gph9?
