    Russia has realized it is not the military superpower it imagined itself to be. A massive miscalculation that will cripple Russia for generations. Now its desperately hoping that its enemies will just lose interest, give up, and hand it victory.

      You are correct. Putin's only path to victory is to appeal to the American public to give up their support. That's why he got on Tucker Carlson's show the other week. The Russian military won't determine the outcome if the Ukrainian forces are even minimally supplied.

    My one question for Lord Houghton is if there is a nuclear confrontation with Russia over Ukraine, is it worth it to have a Nuclear War over Ukraine? This scenario will come sooner than most people think.

    This war is extremely similiar to "what if Munich agreement didn't happen" but we decide we should still allow it to happen after wasting thousands of lives. If we know that immediate resignation was wrong and Ukraine should defend itself and the West then why after paying such a big price we should do something wrong?

    Putin underestimated such a massive western support that Ukraine will receive so rightly believed that he can defeat it sooner in a mostly one to one contest. Both of his assumption turned wrong. With its new war strategy it is now certain that Russia will win over Ukraine if NATO will not directly enter into this war.

    • @brighton1880
      @brighton1880 6 месяцев назад +1

      Uhm and this supposed assumption of his, where did he voice them? Or you presume to know his thinking? NATO was long warned, Ukraine is and will ever be a red line for Russia. It has always been known in the west, but it was used in the hope of using Ukraine to weaken Russia militarily so that the Russian “threat” in Europe is dealt with so the US can direct the west in its real desire to confront the rising China. They thought by provoking this war, while lining up crashing economic sanctions and political isolation of Russia in global stage should see off the defeat of Russia. Non of the 3 has worked, Russia is growing powerfully militarily, far outproducing the west in military weapons, while at the same time it’s economy is growing AND the no west countries are on its side despite the west’s pressure to condemn and isolate Russia. BRICS is expanding, the rich Middle East countries have joined BRICS and 30 more countries want to join it still.
      In the meantime, NATO military stocks have been emptied, they have no more weapons to send to Ukraine, while at the same time their economies are in recession except the US, and they have lost credibility in the world stage because of the Israeli Gaza war. So essentially this war spells the demise of the west because if you look closely, All the countries with natural resources have allied themselves with Russia. Eg Africa, Middle East, Brazil, Asia (China India Indonesia),

    Certainly Ukraine should not start peace negotiations until it loses Odessa and Nicolaev. What remains of Ukraine should not have sea access, for obvious post-war balance reasons.

    Mr Houghton is true when saying Ukraine should decide. But I wonder why he didn't say this also when Russia and Ukraine agreed already in March 2022 to a peaceful solution of the war (Istanbul papers) and USA/UK called Zelensky back to the battlefield !!! The war would have ended already 1 month after the beginning without Boris Johnson's interfering! So please stop warmongering talk and interference in other countries business !

    He is either completely clueless or he's lying through his teeth. In reality Macron and Lloyd Austin are panicking. Zelenskyy regime is on its last legs and it will unlikely survive until the end of the year. Well, it's a quote from The Time article. Zelenskyy top advisers say about him: “He deludes himself, ” one of his closest aides tells me in frustration . “We’re out of options. We’re not winning. But try telling him that. It is immovable, verging on the messianic.” One Austrian artist was in a similar state in 1945. Zelenskyy "achievements" to date: 500,000 Ukrainians are dead, 3x that mangled and crippled for life, half of Ukraine's population is living as refugees scattered all over Europe and Russia right now, they're drafting women because they've run out of men to kidnap off the streets, gyms and public transport. NYT wrote about these mass kidnappings that were happening only in Zelenskyy Ukraine and Hitler's Germany in 1945 in an article ‘People Snatchers’.

      Agreed. You'd have to live under a rock to not realize Ukraine is losing. I don't know about 500,000 dead, but I've seen 450,000 wounded or dead - which might be the number you're citing. The casualties (dead and wounded) are like 1000/day, which is on par with WWI. At that level of attrition, the country with the bigger population and the military industrial complex is going to win (eventually). Without Western support, I think the war would be over in weeks in Russia's favor. So, negotiation might be the only way out for Ukraine that is not total occupation or further obliteration of their population, industry, economy and landscape.
