@@willp2877 Super late reply, but a lot of it comes down to two things: 1) Some people still have a sour taste in their mouths for how he left the Red Wings to sign for the Mighty Ducks back in the day 2) Coupled with that, some people don't view him as being as impactful as Lidstrom or Yzerman, even though Sergei was unbelievable in those three Stanley Cup runs. At times I've heard people say that "he was great, but we have had so many great players, we can't retire all their jerseys," but every memory I have of those teams starts with Fedorov. I still honestly think he was the greatest all-around player to play in the NHL, ever. How many other forwards could switch to defense (the first pairing sometimes, mind you), and have Scotty Bowman say he would have won the Norris doing it a full season? As a sidenote, I wish they would retire Konstantinov's number. No-one is ever going to wear that jersey again in Detroit and, even now, he is adored.
Cant say "Sucks to be him" even if she did dump him for Pavel, the gold digging.....At least he got to have some fun. Do I feel pity? er, no. He had his fun. Even if he did have to pay heaps for it in the end, he's still rich.
Sergei played for the wrong team, but that doesnt mean he isnt worth of induction. He was amazing as a player but he worre that red and white so as a non-detrouit fan, you had to loving hating him, but truly, he was one of the great players in NHL history.
Trevor Upchurch will not happen. he was good but did not give it his all every shift. contract issues. you have to be a serious red wing to have your jersey retired. he had a lot of distractions which is why it will not happen. I think he is a fantastic player and liked watching him when I was younger. but that is why it will not happen.
@Anti Sjw I made my comment over 2 years ago and his jersey is still not retired. Hmmmm. I wonder why. Zetterberg will have his hanging in the rafters before Sergei. Believe that.
@@sabsdabs9338 why is his not retired as a red wing then? One of the best talents of his generation. Because what I said was true. Dent it all you want. He has had over a decade to have it retired. Nope. He pissed them off.
Retire his # 91
Never realized he's still struggling with English. Miss them days soooo much. My one and only sports hero.
+kiker0909 He spoke much better English back in his playing days. I guess he's just rusty now that he spends most of his time in Russia.
My hero too
Miss him!
Great memories
Hey Sergei send some of your guys our way. We need a Russian Five 2.0
LEGEND!!!
My favorite hockey player
OUR Favorite Hockey Player. The Fed's!!!!
My fav too
They will not retire the jersey with his name on it, but no one on the Wings will wear the 91 ever again. These shoes are "too big" to fill.
why is that? legitimately curious.
