What a happy fella, that Schnittke
Goes through the grief cycle (denial , anger, bargaining, depression , acceptance) in music! Amazing! I just lost my dad and best friend, and the composer had lost his mum, this is what the piece is about.
I. Moderato: 0:00
II. Tempo di Valse: 5:01
III. Andante: 10:46
IV. Lento: 16:25
V. Moderato pastorale: 20:22
mysterious, depressive, and yet exciting
Thanks for this. Schnittke, for all my limited knowledge, is one of my favorite composers.
+Castor Denston Yes. I'd agree. Although I think he is my top favorite composer.
Wow, the passacaglia theme in the finale is absolutely devastating. What a gorgeous work. This quintet will undoubtedly be my next obsession.
Very enigmatic and wonderful piece.
The mood is downright morbid, but it's absolutely compelling!
morbid is the word I was looking for. This piece makes me shrink.
I can't explain myself how this guy could compose such a bleak piece. utterly heartrending, it's like a mixture of many nightmares... at all events, it's a tremendous quintet.
Great piece.. enjoyed it very much. Now, if RUclips's marketing Philistines and Barbarians could time their advertising and not use it to interrupt such music, the experience would be improved.
written in memory of his deceased mother
So much power into this pièce in general. With the not so big repertoire of classical music I have, I am yet to find one that sounds this harmonic yet borderline atonal, how the strings are pulled in a way it brings out the unusual. Simply magnificent, a must listen I'd say.
O am gee that's a beyonder piece
This is the first time i heard this quintet and I´m totally in love with it.
a genuinely frightening piece of music
What a haunting ending!!
Great song used this for a theater project at my school
I watched the movie, "The Lobster" which evidently, according to the roll credits, features some of Schittke's music. Fascinating atonal use of strings. Never heard it prior to last weekend.
best film of the year
"Man eats alone...man eats with woman..."
Ein großartiges Stück!
Una de mis obras favoritas de toda la vida
This is pretty epic.
This gives expression to a way of life hopefully none of us living in the United States will have to suffer through. It is such an experience - then again it could also describe the slowness of being overmedicated and listless . Miss Havisham knows this music but it has so many emotions much more than just disappointment or despair even . Hopelessness . Unlike so much Shostakovich it doesnt show the fight just the sleep-dream. The microtones everywhere(I must use more I use clustes cuz I dont want definite pitches -this music is full of solutions to many of my quests . Silence too is big in Schnittke . So clever was he !!! trills in the end of 8th minute up till utterances in III section and 15 minute are fabulous . The ned to say what is difficult or Insanity I think becomes the dominant tone around 15th minute ! Why do performers so often ignore ppp's .Ive noticed in Ravel - even though it can be done and microphones can get clear misty soft unsounds ? 4movement has some fight more drive and seeming purposeful opposition than what came before so these characters might get out of this. It certainly ends rather sunnily ! Amazing music ! Messiaen stole the title this music should have !
como un sueño...
Wow!
@belanna000 not sure which, but you're missing one of the two violinists on the list of performers.
great
Terrific
what a fucking mood
Masterpiece
i have no words...
Perfect
Beautifully horrifying!
7:02 Cemetery Lullaby
Epic
Some parts remind me a lot of "False Idol" from Demon's Souls soundtrack.
15:37 the most dissonant !!!!!
13:48 Damn
O, shit
Such a complicated piece. You can really hear Shostakovich's influence on it.
This is great. Where do you got the score? Is it possible to send me?
2:20

13:34
19:34
22:41

it's his wife
Thank you for your reply
Is this really music..?
Define music
Yes, it is. You don't know much about music in the 20th century if this work is challenging for you.
Yeah it's just bad music
Not done well.
Poor note choice.
