  • So this project did not turn out great, but it is functional. We're going to start dressing a reproduction Jenny Lind doll of mine. First off, she needed a trunk to keep all her new things. I found an antique trunk online and sealed it. It also got recovered in reproduction wallpaper. Overall, it's not the prettiest thing, but it works as intended. Next month we'll start dressing the doll!

I found a china doll in a thrift store which I later found out was an antique from the 1850's. She still had her original body which was one of the ways I knew she was old. I had a little trunk that I lined to keep her and her clothes in. One thing that helped make lining easier was that I cut out the bottom, sides, top and side tops from matte board, then covered that with the paper. I could work outside of the trunk for all the fiddly bits, then just glued these pieces inside the trunk. I wish I could share a photo with you. Thanks for showing this. I so enjoy a trunk and a miniature one is all the more fun!

I’m excited for this series!!!!!! I picked up a porcelain doll at my local thrift shop of all places that was a part of a set made by a Japanese company which is inspired by Little Women The one I have happens to be Beth. While I love Beth as a character, I wanted her to be my own, so I named her Elizabeth Anne. It looks like the “Elizabeths” will be getting new wardrobes! I am doing an 1860’s wardrobe for mine. I will definitely be following along.

Awe, the Elizabeths shall get dressed at the same time... I'll do 1860s next year but a lot of the pieces are the same for both decades!

The trunk is absolutely charming! Looking forward to this project, I have always enjoyed sewing doll clothes so I do hope you will release patterns…

I plan to! I have the underpinnings sewn up and the patterns are mostly put together for next month.

Neat trunk! Perfect for all your doll clothes. If you ever do another one, I would suggest cutting templates of the interior of the trunk for a less frustrating experience. 😊

Thank you! I considered that but figured this would be just as easy. It was not.

I have the same Jenny Lind type doll from Anabelle's World. Had her for about 5 yrs now and she only has her under pinnings done. LOL! The cage was a challenge! Definitely need a buddy to make it.
I like Elizabeth! I named mine Lucy Louisiana after an ancestor born in the 1860s. I want to get a few more to have different styles to display at presentations.
We need to compare doll clothes notes....

Yes, we do! I've had mine a bit longer, I think... and she's still naked lol!

I just finished stitching her underpinnings so I'm working on digitizing the patterns now :)!

I have 2 antique doll doll trunks and 1 modern reproduction one. I am on the fence as to redo one of the old ones. My doll is named Chloe Maude after my grandmothers, both of whom I was named after. She has one outfit but could always have more.

Well, the plan is still to publish the patterns I make for free. I'd love for people to follow along and use them!

This is going to be a fun project! How tall is Elizabeth? I have a repro china head doll and have made her a dress but she needs all the underpinnings.

Elizabeth is 18" from the top of her head to the tip of her feet.

I love what you have done Can you tell me what size your trunk is, as I would like to make one for a 12 inch doll, But I may buy a new unpainted trunk to do up.

I would love to get you exact measurements but I'm in the process of moving and I think the trunk is buried in the bottom of a storage unit right now. My doll is 18" long and I'm pretty sure the trunk is as well because I have to set her at a diagonal angle to get her to fit. Trunk may be about 10" wide and perhaps 10-12" tall but it's been a few months since I've seen it. Hope this helps!
