Watch me rehab an American Girl Today / Truly Me / Just Like You #11 using only a steamer and a brush (no conditioner, fabric softener, or flat iron!)
I love to see an AG's hair go from frizzy to sleek when she is restored! ( if that was her original style) This seems to be an excellent method and the steamer is really not that expensive! Thank you for sharing this and doing all those steps (the tedious experimentation) for achieving success! Sharing this is really appreciated!🙂
Happy to do so - it's so much fun! I love sharing all the tricks I've picked up. Thank you so much for continuing to watch my videos!
You are a genius! I’m getting my 37 year old daughter’s Felicity ready to give
to her Daughter….and her hair was very frizzy….I tried wetting with conditioner
It didn’t work well..the ends were still very frizzy….and of course my
Granddaughter who is 6 will want to brush her hair….I got the steamer
That you recommended and curlers and her hair is now unbelievable!
Thank you!
Also trimming the loose hairs that will eventually become uneven from the wefts is NOT a cardinal sin, it’s maintenance it leave the hair feeling so much smoother and able to go in rollers so much easier ,
I've had my American girl doll since I was like 7-8 and her hair is atrocious... I'm so gonna try this to hopefully save her
This is one of the best videos ever. I have wondered how to redo the hair on a couple of my dolls from 1-20. This was so, so useful. Yes, the final result did look factory ready. Thank you so very much.
Your RUclips channel has risen right to the top in my books.
She looks beautiful! Thanks so much for making this detailed, informative video. I appreciate your showing us what you're doing and talking about it in detail. Just what I needed! I'm a new subscriber.
I love how the Pleasant Company dolls looked I never got one as a kid but I was able to get the Mattel one of Addy(my favorite) and Kaya I just unboxed her after almost a year since I did not have a space for her. The doll in this video is so cute she looks like the older version. I need to work on Addy's hair and any other doll hair that will need it later thanks for this video
I've never really seen the steam techniique before! Really cool
It's the best of all worlds, and it's the easiest I think!
I knew about this but hadn't seen it done before, and I'm absolutely going to do this! I think I've just gotten too impatient in the past ^^;
You got this! I think this is the least risky method as well, so as long as you don’t burn your hands or accidentally steam good bangs, you’re good!
I use the the hot water dunk method. I've had absolutely wonderful results with it.
I have been looking in. Your comments for the steamer and couldn’t find it. Great job on the doll!
Great video!
Have you worked on an Addie doll? I have an old doll that was loved too much by someone who wasn’t informed on caring for natural textured hair. Her hair is VERY “dry” and thin. I don’t want to “relax” her hair (steam or boil it straight), but am unsure of how to make it appear more “conditioned” while maintaining the texture.
I am struggling with Samantha’s bangs. They stick out at a 45 degree angle on one of mine that I bought on eBay. I’ve searched for instructive videos but none really have good techniques for fixing bad bangs. Thank you in advance for any tips you may have. I absolutely love your channel. I have spent many hours and dollars on eBay. You have taught me so much!
i saw another youtuber use flexi rods under the bangs on the forehead and point a steamer at the bangs while smoothing them over the rods. i thought about trying this myself! just be careful and cover the doll's eyes with something so they don't silver or rust
Yeah, I was hoping he would give advice for bangs but all he said was ‘you don’t want to mess with the bangs’ like so unhelpful. 🫤
cant wait to try this on my new (someone's pre loved ) Molly!. Just ordered the steamer.
Thanks for the hair tutorial. I am going to try this method on my early 1990s Felicity. Just the bottom though. The top is fine.
This will work great for Felicity! Just add a little extra steam at the end so the curl is a little looser and she’ll be perfect!
Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!
I saved this tutorial 👍🏼 I need to straighten my Kirsten’s hair. It’s sooooo unruly from the braids lol
Wow you did an awesome job restoring her xxx
Thank you so much!!
She turned out so cute!
I love this idea! Do you happen to have a tutorial for building the head stand rig you use? It looks fantastic! Love these videos (may or may not have done a lot of shopping based on this one this week 😅).
Thank you so much for the helpful information.
wow!!! you did a amazing job on her!!! she looks completely different
This is perfect. My Molly's and Kirsten's hair is frizzy and it makes me sad. Thank you so much for making this video!
Thank you so much for this video!! I’ve always used magic eraser too! Samantha is my favorite and I own four Samantha’s. I’d love to see a video of yours!
Do we not shampoo and condition the human grade kanekalon? Used dirty doll hair deeply disturbs me and because American girl does use Japanese human grade kanekalon it stands up to washing
I use a synthetic wig shampoo when I get a used doll, never had a problem with it. When the hair is dry I’ll also use a synthetic wig conditioning spray. I don’t see anything wrong with using professional synthetic wig products on AG hair, I don’t care what they say.
She ended up looking great 🤩 Never heard about a steamer before I wonder if we have them in Denmark 🤔
personly I think that the older american girl dolls, have better hair, look a bit older, (12 ish) the newer dolls look younger, (5-4) there hair gets messed up more, I just think that if you were born when the older ones were around they were a bit better. I have a older doll, made in like 2014 and a newer one I got 2021 and ive been trying to get the newer ones hair fixed, its kinda hard bc the hair is frizzy and tangled, I try to do some hair styles and the hair gets tangled agin :/, to talk about the newer doll I got 7 yrs before the newer one, its hair has more layers but, it does not have the rope on the back of the head I have the rope on the newer one though.. :) P.S. I love your videos keep it up!!
Does it say pleasant company 148/16 at the back of her neck like addy does?
I ordered the steamer. Hopr I can get the hair on my doll to look better. It is soooo dry! Thank you for the video and hair tips!
Will this work to make tighter curls? I have a Caroline doll that needs hair help.
Yep! You just need a smaller curler for tighter curls :)
Can you do this more than once if it isn't the way you liked the first time? I have to say I did this to two dolls.I perfected it the second time and it turned out so good. But I would like to retry the first doll I did.
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement wig for my Addy? I have been looking for a while now, but to avail.
I’ve got one with pc wig but her pie bangs are cut 😭
You did an excellent job, especially on the hair ,,,kudos , thanks for sharing .💜
Thank you so much!! 💚
@@idreamofjonny NICE HAY
Nice!
Thank you!! 💙
What was the brand that you love for steamers
I love this doll
Thanks! But I am so scared to take the head off! She looks great!
I saw a video that someone was plucking out stray hairs on their doll. I thought they were getting really nice results but is this acceptable or is this considered to be ruining it?
I cut them instead of plucking, plucking is never a good idea it will stress the wig.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with cutting hair when it’s necessary… Vintage doll wigs can get extremely dry ends, and AG wigs are often cut pretty wonky in my restoration experience. I just got a PC #8 and her ends are so dry, they’re crispy 😮. Cutting a few millimeters at the bottom gives the wig a really nice sharp look. I usually avoid cutting bangs, unless they have stray hairs as yours did. It happens! 😅
This really works
🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍
What does the number indicate? You said she was an eleven.
Do I HAVE to pull her head off? LOL I'm terrified of not getting it back on correctly.
They’re really easy to put back on it takes 20 seconds at most

💚
SOS does anyone know if the doll hospital still has heads for jly11? I called American girl and they told me I’d have to send the doll in first and then they could tell me if they have a replacement head or not. @idreamofjonny
I’m pretty sure they don’t have 11 heads anymore. Email them through their website, and you’ll probably get a better answer. That’s crazy to have to send a doll in to get that info!
@@idreamofjonny right?! Thanks for the tip!
Update for those who care. The woman I spoke with from American girl called me back and left a voicemail stating the 11 head is no longer available and she didn’t want me to go through the trouble of sending a doll only to have it sent back! Five star service from Monica at American Girl!
