Second, how amazingly Motive captured and expanded the original game. I am constantly jumping betweeen "Hey, I remember that!" and "Hey, that´s new!" and both works great.

Same here. A bunch of my friends from school talked about Dead Space a lot back in the day, but I wasn't allowed to play it at the time. Really excited to pick this up some time, but I don't think my PC specs are good enough, judging by the Steam page.

Having never played any Dead Space game, this remake has kept me entertained all day! I really hope the release of this game is a huge success and the other two entries in the series follow suit with the same treatment 🤓
as someone who is a huge Dead Space fan and has played them all I'd rather have a new installment. 2 and 3 are on Gamepass and hold up, go play them after your done with the remake.
if you preordered dead space remake, you get dead space 2 as well, not remastered or remaked, but you get it, and it still looks pretty good and runs super well. and if you don't have it you can find it pretty cheap on most platforms.
I went in hearing it was good, 2 hours in and I don’t wanna stop playing! It’s made me re-live my childhood. I Love Motive was able to make a me a believer in games again.
When you say "They nailed it!", I can't stop thinking about crucifixion. Maybe that's just because I'm a French Canadian and English is not my first language! Survival horror games is a language I know, though. I'm going to crucify necromorphs tonight in what is probably the best game in the series. What a treat!!
The AI in this game is really good, I went in a room at one point and there was a monster on the ceiling so I went “nope” and went back to the last room I was in and closed the door, then it snuck through the walls and popped out of a vent and got me in there lol
More videos about movies would be good! Regarding this video, I don't buy many games but may have to pick this one up. Loved the original Dead Space and am happy to hear this wasn't screwed up.
I've played it. Long time ago. Don't remember much except the main plot. And on steam it's 59. I got it. Not badly optimized either. 80 fps with dlss quality 4k on my 3080 12gb and i7 12700k
@@JakeBaldino that’s great to hear, I’m definitely going to pick it up. I know some people are getting tired of the remakes, but I love it because I’ve got to experience great games I missed out on like FF7 and now Dead Space. Now I’m just patiently waiting for that damn Metal Gear remake!
as someone who played this just once, back in the day. I didn't remember all that much so it was essentially like playing a brand new game and from that perspective I really enjoyed it (am enjoying it). shame it didn't launch in the best physical shape on certain platforms but that was fixed super quickly so 👌🏻 couple of things I found to be clunky but it's totally era appropriate without being destructive. other than that, very few notes. recommend.👍🏻
I played the original 5-6 times…back in 2008 lol. I LOVE the added rooms, overhaul on graphics and the sound design is “chefs kiss”. This game is def my favorite survival horror game, my little haunted house in space 😂
If I'm honest, the original didn't do much for me. But this remake man... got me scared to go around corners or into new rooms, fumbling basic mechanics out of panic and stuff. Probably what it felt like to play this back in 2008. I'm a happy customer.
I must have played Dead Space at least a half-dozen times between the 360 and XB1 Back Compat. EA was on a tear back in the 2000's with this, Mass Effect, and Mirror's Edge. I wish they still had some of that "take a chance with a new IP" attitude. Which, speaking of new IPs, hope to see some Hi-Fi Rush BYB on gameranx and your channel!
I think that what we see here is a remake done right not only you remain faithful to the original but you boost it add more elements that make it even better and improve it overall. Dead space remake=A remake done right! Other devs- watch it- learn from it. This is what a remake is, this is what a remake is all about! Not re-imaginings not changing playstyles JUST THE ORIGINAL BUT BETTER.-
I wish the way the map is more accessible and less cumbersome. Having a mini map say at either the upper left or right hand side of the screen would have been much better. Other than that. It has greatly improved the over all feel of the horror of Dead Space.
It is really good, no doubt! There's that tinkling sound sometimes if you play with headphones, combined with the visuals makes for a creepy atmosphere. Also that sound is like straight out of the X-Files!
I vaguely remembered playing the old game and quitting when I got to the zero G sections. It was just too clunky for me at the time. So now am really excited to see the conversation around this game and am interested in taking that dip into it again. Especially after the great remakes from resident evil. I need more of that 3rd person shooter action horror vibe.
Shoutout to motive for getting this right to the amazing Gunner Wright for voicing Isaac Clark, this remake is fantastic just fantastic dead space is FUN again
I was going to wait for a sale on this but decided to throw down the full price..and? It's awesome it looks incredible,I keep stopping just to look around the environments, soak it all in,they've done a fantastic job with this remake and I'm not sorry i paid full price for it.
12:40 The Plasma Cutter, it lacks the impact it had when playing the original. It just doesn't feel as "ooomphy" when firing it, Idk how else to explain it, kinda the same way they messed it up in DS3. Probably the noticeable reduction of camera-bob is a contributor to this, which also causes the same to kinesis, making it also seem "weaker". That and the weight of Isaac's movement overall. It definitely feels like the gameplay is smoother across the board, but if you've played the original (and the sequels) that heavier and often clunky movement which practically became one of it's main characteristics, is comparatively gone. His running/walking is more floaty now, as if he occasionally slides due to a squeaky-clean floor. Not gamebreaking things really as the remade experience is really chef's kiss, but these are the most often-noticed ones for me.
It’s brilliant 1 work at release (so many games don’t) 2 EA didn’t lock a bunch of shut behind pay wall 3 I was a nervous reck for 11 hr straight It’s absolutely brilliant
Im so happy they remade this, I was 8 when the original came out and im 22 now, somewhere along the line I've lost my ps3 and playstation isn't good at doing backwards compatibility, so I don't have anyway to play ps3 era games, this game didn't need a remake but im glad they did so I can play it again, and super pumped silent hill is coming back now too, these 2 were my favorite scary games growing up
Only issue I have is the security clearance addition... really wished it marked out locked lockers for you that you come across like it does with doors.
Only gotten to chapter three and they have changed some of the layout on where you go, but it feels great as well as fresh aaand the necromorphs are haunting when they run Also, the lurkers have baby heads
I played chapter 1 and it looks amazing but I'm also thinking holy crap this game is dark. Is it just this chapter or are my settings off? Loving it but damn can't see much
The unpredictable spawns in the remake really make the experience for me. Every enemy spawn is scary, I'm constantly looking around in every direction, even when I die I walk into the same room not knowing what to expect. Advanced necros with their green eyes are terrifying and tanky as hell. I am genuinely worried about my mental health in Impossible Mode, thats going to give me an ulcer
Everything from the way the controller vibrates depending on what action you do and to the graphics , are extremely good. I dont regret it one bit on buying this game. Its good old classic style horror fully remade on modern consoles. Amazing game and there is even talks about dead space 2 remake. Ganna be awesome series of remakes
Glad to see a win for EA Motive, I'm glad space horror still has market cut through in the contemporary gaming space. Okay, now Jake, tell them to make a Mummy movie game
This Remake was excellent. I'm surprised just like everyone that they didn't fucked it up It looks stunning, with the tweaks to gameplay and some bit of the narrative in the missions here and there. I don't know why this happens but there's no photo mode, which for games, like this one is such an oversight. Hopefully, they patch it in later. Also, you can't use your mouse when navigating the inventory and had to use the arrows on the keyboard to navigate which was annoying but not a big deal. Overall the devs nailed it :)
Hi Jake, loved you review and will be getting this when funds allow. But at 8:21 I'm sure I hear you say Ridley rather than Ripley. As for the Dead Space series I love the games and would like to see 2 and 3 remade.
It’s cool they added side quests. If I remember correctly the original game didn’t have any side quests. Going to extra areas just have you extra loot.
Hey are the graphics a little bit underwhelming compared to Callisto protocol because it looks sorta weird on my ps5 I’m wondering if it’s the 120hz and VRR ?
This remake totally got me into Dead Space. For some reason, I just missed it back in the day. I’m 31 now, and I remember being in middle school and this game taking off, but I was so into Halo back then that I barely played anything else. Anyways, I had purchased Dead Space remake on PS5, and I’m now on Dead Space 2 which I bought along with 3 a long time ago on Steam sales. I wish they would remake Dead Space 2, but I hear they aren’t, so I jumped into original Dead Space 2. Happy I’m finally playing the series!
I haven't played dead space in almost 10 yrs. But I beat on every difficulty and received every trophy. I bought the original the day it came out and was blown away. I can't wait to get the remake
I was skeptical. I literally beat dead space last year when I was bored. The game does not lose its tension. You are always worried you will get snuck up on. There always feels like something can burst through the ceiling or wall at any moment. On top of that the random ai director keeps a respawn always a fun time.
Haunted houses rule! The People Under the Stairs, Alien, Murder by Death. Great movies. Playing RE2 for the first time (!) and RCP Dept is as haunted as it comes. I've been running around it in Dead by Daylight for a year, nice to see the real thing.
I had to play this game for the first time! Survival horror was not my thing back in 2008 but after playing, what I thought was a great Callisto Protocol, I had to jump in and experience this game for the first time. From what I have see in comparison videos, it is amazing the amount of detail the EA Motive did with this remake. Just incredible! Glad to see a lot of people applauding these devs for this remake. Hopefully other Devs see this remake and take notes!
Motive did such a great job this remake is definitely the most definitive way to play Dead Space 1. I really hope a Dead Space 2 remake is in the works.
I’ve never played the original… I recently spent $80 on Hogwarts Legacy… deluxe babyyyy. I have the money for Dead Space but I’m torn whether I should play it right away or wait a while. I’ve heard everyone say it’s amazing but should I?
I recently bought Hogwarts Legacy deluxe as well, but on pc it was only $70. I was also torn on buying dead space right away, but I went ahead and took the plunge, and loving every minute of it. I say go for it, if you're a survival horror fan I think you can't go wrong with dead space.
Spent all night playing it and singing its praises to my roommate when he came home. The OG Dead Space was my favorite horror game of all-time...but the remake takes that crown now. Definitely hope this and the RE remakes serve as the templates for remakes going forward (fingers crossed we get Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver remakes and...by some miracle, the Suffering). Truly hope this does well enough to make them consider giving Dead Space 2 the same treatment.
The Atmosphere. The Look. The Feel. As someone who played the original for the first time 3 months ago. It still felt so great for a 2008 title. So coming over to the remake I came in like Rambo. I’m a pro at dismemberment ☠️. It’s great
Huge fan, bought the original day one as I am a survival horror fan. Played it so many times and it turned out to be one of my favorite games period. This remake is like when I got the RE1 GC remake, just a fantastic remake experience with appropriate additions with a huge visual upgrade. The fact that we get the RE4 remake in a few months is crazy, just how much we are getting spoiled with great survival horror classics remade right.
This is one of the greatest remakes ever made. The developer truly understood the source material which is exactly how it needs to be. This is the definitive way to experience the game. I truly hope Resident Evil 4 can be this good.
It’s exciting that survival horror games are back in full swing. Now all I want is a game that really emphasises the survival . Less bullets. Crazy difficulty. The charm of playing well and being rewarded. Dead space feels like they give me more than enough ammo to mow down the enemies
I'm a little late to this conversation but one MAJOR improvement that I am happy they changed was the part in chapter 7 where you have to plant the beacon in the asteroid. In the original game, I got killed by those rotating beams so many times that it caused me to rage quit and put the whole game on ice for a while. Thanks to the new mechanics in the remake, I was able to time everything where I could simply fly around the outside and get behind the asteroid rather than space jumping on it first which resulted in multiple deaths.
I just downloaded this game last night and I’m enjoying it so far! I’ve always wanted to try the Dead Space series. Ridley Scott’s Alien and John Carpenter’s The Thing are two of my all-time favorite movies, and Dead Space gives off similar vibes to both of those
I think my muscle memory kicks in for this game because I really don't remember much besides the ending. I started on normal and for once normal was too easy (im not great at games). So now I'm curious about how much time I actually spent on the OG game because it was crazy hard when I played it... yet it's like I never put it down.
They knocked it out the park. I'm happy I didn't have to cancel my order. I was playing for the first time since the OG version until 2AM. The Remake is fantastic. Brought me back to 2008.
I played Dead Space on both the 360 and PS3 in 2008. The PS3 load times between rooms were awful, even when the game was installed! This remake being all one sequence, helps keep the tension and atmosphere. Second, the flamethrower is a legitimate weapon now. Between the thrower's firewall and force gun's gravity well, makes for some serious crowd control.
It's weird that this remaster is getting a lot of attention, bc when it came out it was just a decent game that wasn't triple A. Yes let's get more dead space but it wasn't all that back then
I hated the new face until I found out it was the actual voice actor's face. Not because I didn't think it looked good, but because it felt like a needless change that took something small, but crucial away from the franchise's identity (like that weird decision to change Peter Parker's face in the Spicer-Man game...in the same game even). Now I'm 100% on board with it. I'm glad they did that.
Jake please do a video on “Hi-Fi Rush”. Really wanna hear your thoughts. I’m loving it a lot and think I can call it my favorite from this year so far. Also, on a side note, the graphics style reminds me of the PS2 TMNT games!
As a die hard fan of the original and someone who has gotten all the achievements i went in with high expectations and had them exceeded this game is FANTASTIC 😍
I tried playing the original in the fall and I just couldn’t keep going. It was mostly because the dialogue was hit or miss, especially the over-the-top arguing between Hammond and Daniels. I picked up the remake and am absolutely loving it! Feels like a brand new 2023 game imo
Dead space is one of my favorite games of all time. Was kind of depressed replaying the series a while back thinking it was going to stay a relic of the 7th Gen. I'm excited to get home from work and play this with a nice cider. Maybe all this attention will give the franchise new life. If not I'm ok with this. Letting me relive one of my favorite memories as a teenager before life kicked me in the ass😅
Every time I’d turn into a dark room or just come out of a fight, Issacs heart would be goin’ hard. So much so that it started to change my own beat, freaking me out with it. I don’t remember those sounds in the original. Good shit all around
My buddy has never played Dead Space before and streamed this earlier today and was questioning why he bought it, he was so scared and it was so funny to watch
Thanks for letting me know more about what to expect from this remake! When I hear remake, I never know what to expect because my first "remake" was RE2 which was obviously very very different, and I've been disappointed in the past by "remakes" that are really just remasters. Also, I'd love to hear about movies!

if you preordered dead space remake, you get dead space 2 as well, not remastered or remaked, but you get it, and it still looks pretty good and runs super well.
and if you don't have it you can find it pretty cheap on most platforms.
@@DatAsianGuy Awesome! I got myself the physical copy although I have been told the games are on Game Pass, which is an absolute win! 🥳
I so want this remake because I love the original dead space growing up.
I’ve been really excited for this one. I missed out on the original games, so getting a proper upgrade like this is great!
it's a good way to jump into the series. You're in for a good time
@@JakeBaldino that’s great to hear, I’m definitely going to pick it up. I know some people are getting tired of the remakes, but I love it because I’ve got to experience great games I missed out on like FF7 and now Dead Space.
Now I’m just patiently waiting for that damn Metal Gear remake!
as someone who played this just once, back in the day. I didn't remember all that much so it was essentially like playing a brand new game and from that perspective I really enjoyed it (am enjoying it).
shame it didn't launch in the best physical shape on certain platforms but that was fixed super quickly so 👌🏻
couple of things I found to be clunky but it's totally era appropriate without being destructive. other than that, very few notes.
recommend.👍🏻
I played the original 5-6 times…back in 2008 lol. I LOVE the added rooms, overhaul on graphics and the sound design is “chefs kiss”. This game is def my favorite survival horror game, my little haunted house in space 😂
6:50 should have put in a short of steven seagal saying "Guy" XD
If I'm honest, the original didn't do much for me. But this remake man... got me scared to go around corners or into new rooms, fumbling basic mechanics out of panic and stuff. Probably what it felt like to play this back in 2008. I'm a happy customer.
I just finished it and man this is what I imagined Dead Space when I was a kid and more!
I love survival adventure horror, & I’ve never played any dead space games. So I’m excited to pick this one up 😊
Oh boy you are certainly in for treat!
Enjoy mate cheers!
Oooh & lights out sound UP!
My only complaint! if it had re4s map system..wouldve been amazing
It is really good, no doubt! There's that tinkling sound sometimes if you play with headphones, combined with the visuals makes for a creepy atmosphere. Also that sound is like straight out of the X-Files!
Exactly what I wanted, a similar quality remake to Re2

The Plasma Cutter, it lacks the impact it had when playing the original.
It’s brilliant
1 work at release (so many games don’t)
2 EA didn’t lock a bunch of shut behind pay wall
3 I was a nervous reck for 11 hr straight
It’s absolutely brilliant
Im so happy they remade this, I was 8 when the original came out and im 22 now, somewhere along the line I've lost my ps3 and playstation isn't good at doing backwards compatibility, so I don't have anyway to play ps3 era games, this game didn't need a remake but im glad they did so I can play it again, and super pumped silent hill is coming back now too, these 2 were my favorite scary games growing up
Only issue I have is the security clearance addition... really wished it marked out locked lockers for you that you come across like it does with doors.
I enjoy hearing the things you're passionate to talk about no matter what they are Jake. I can't wait for more!
Only gotten to chapter three and they have changed some of the layout on where you go, but it feels great as well as fresh aaand the necromorphs are haunting when they run
Also, the lurkers have baby heads
I played chapter 1 and it looks amazing but I'm also thinking holy crap this game is dark. Is it just this chapter or are my settings off? Loving it but damn can't see much
It is very dark and I kinda like it, but I'm sad that the helmet isn't showing any light
@Mad Peasant King yeah don't know if I'm getting old or what lol. I'm just like damn I can't see shit
@@Mad_Peasant_King the helmet does show light, it's just not nearly as bright as the original.
@@steadygaming7737 I wish it had the light from ds3, shown the visor slits which was nice
I'm upgrading everything and gonna blow 100K on ammo and stasis packs when I go into impossible mode.
I'm surprised just like everyone that they didn't fucked it up
It looks stunning, with the tweaks to gameplay and some bit of the narrative in the missions here and there.
I like remakes that add new content or switch it up so it’s a semi-new game
Hi Jake, loved you review and will be getting this when funds allow. But at 8:21 I'm sure I hear you say Ridley rather than Ripley.
As for the Dead Space series I love the games and would like to see 2 and 3 remade.
It’s cool they added side quests. If I remember correctly the original game didn’t have any side quests. Going to extra areas just have you extra loot.
Hey are the graphics a little bit underwhelming compared to Callisto protocol because it looks sorta weird on my ps5 I’m wondering if it’s the 120hz and VRR ?
This gives us the breath that some older legendary games can be remade and modernized and still be as good or better, cant wait for re4 remake
Its fantasticly optimized too. My low/mid-end 10yo setup can run it at 60fps
After the Callisto Protocol I have really needed this. Love the original and so far loving this even more!!!
I absolutely loved the collisto protocol it's so awesome but I am super excited to play dead space for the first time tonight 😀 😄
You're gonna love it! (I also loved Callisto :)
@@steadygaming7737 thanks man! I really appreciate the reply. You may have swayed me :)
@@matthewjalovick no problem brother! You're gonna have a blast with this magnificent retelling! Good luck, and have fun!
Is it really that blurry on series x? compared to pc?
They did a amazing job, and I was 100% sure it was going to be this good
Never played it before. Looking forward to checking it out.
All you had to do was stasis the rotating beams. Although I don't remember if they had the stasis recharge outside the asteroid or not.
Jake which game would you like for a publisher or developer to have remade?
I just downloaded this game last night and I’m enjoying it so far! I’ve always wanted to try the Dead Space series. Ridley Scott’s Alien and John Carpenter’s The Thing are two of my all-time favorite movies, and Dead Space gives off similar vibes to both of those
Does it have a story mode difficulty?
I really wish they kept the old aiming style where each laser was projected on the respective target.
Okay, going I get in. Never played through the original and I’ve been conflicted to either do original or the remake. 🎉 Thank you Baldino.
Yes let's get more dead space but it wasn't all that back then
I honestly love hearing your movie opinions! I'd love to hear about anything you watch really!
Always appreciate the missing photo mode dig. Great video as always.
Really hope this sells well maybe EA will make a part 4, we been waiting a long time. Also where the hell is fight night at EA?
Yes Jake... I'm still into movies.
Fantastic video! I was hoping you’d make a dedicated video on it
Glad you liked it!
Every time I’d turn into a dark room or just come out of a fight, Issacs heart would be goin’ hard. So much so that it started to change my own beat, freaking me out with it. I don’t remember those sounds in the original. Good shit all around
Never played the original myself, I'm about 30 minutes in right now and man this game looks incredible at 4k on OLED. REALLY enjoying it so far
What system you playing it on?
My buddy has never played Dead Space before and streamed this earlier today and was questioning why he bought it, he was so scared and it was so funny to watch
Thanks for letting me know more about what to expect from this remake! When I hear remake, I never know what to expect because my first "remake" was RE2 which was obviously very very different, and I've been disappointed in the past by "remakes" that are really just remasters.
Also, I'd love to hear about movies!
