@@punishedsteak5150 I am experiencing that a bit. If you play well you can end encounters with more resources than you used which lets you buy nodes and juice super hard. At least the node trees are gated by the part system. Maybe they implemented that for this very reason

It really shows that the devs not only were fans of the originals but also updated the game correctly with features that could not have been done in the generation of the orginal release, and i really like that one of those key aspects is exploration and i hope they bring that to on dead space 2 remake
One very small detail I loved when I saw it in game is the robotic arms on the infirmary beds that basically foreshadow what the patient will turn in to
Finding the guns directly and allowing you to reset power nodes are such welcome changes. I remember watching one of my favorite content creators play through the original. They never used anything but the plasma cutter and pulse rifle the entire game because they were saving credits for all the power nodes they can get for upgrades. They absolutely loved the game and it's details but I was sad the game design pushed them away from exploring all the awesome weapons the game had to offer.
I know exactly who you’re talking about and…ah well, not every game can *push* players to do a specific thing, sometimes players have to take initiative to find out why something is good. The youtuber you’re talking about didn’t even *try* to use them, which begs the question, why can they be sold in the first place?
The original was mature, these decisions being final, like decisions in real life are. While the remake is childish, where you can reset your decisions, as if they were never made. This infantilism, which includes being easily offended, is a huge problem in today's society, and the remake is a prime example of it, with its gender neutral toilettes, retconned Kendra character, and diverse ads. 👎

It's great to see such a competent remake of a team that so clearly understands the original and knew how to improve upon it. Seems like there's a clear path to remaking DS2, reimagining DS3 and following up with an original DS4 by this team
I hope they don't remake all the games and just make a new one, because that would be time wasting. Why would you want to see the same sh1t when you can get new experience
Perfectly redone story, better combat and exploration, more menacing necro attacks. The remake is nothing but more goodness on the original's legacy. A big connection I noticed to the previous games is in how Isaac makes the crazy decisions. "I gotta enter the ADS trench and recalibrate the cannons in an asteroid rainstorm." "I gotta enter Food Storage and finish off the Leviathan." "I gotta mess with dangerous mining equipment to plant an SOS beacon on an asteroid." It ties directly with the line in DS2 when Isaac has to return to the Ishimura. "Isaac, no! This is a really bad idea!" "Stick around. I'm full of bad ideas."
One of my favorite lines from this remake is "Isaac, that is an incredibly bad idea" or smthn along those lines before facing one of the bosses and he replies with "Well, Im all out of good ideas, so guess whats left."
@@marcovalencia146 That one is awesome but my favourite is when at the end he just screams: "Fuck this ship" and then they someone says "Praise Altman" and he's like "And fuck altman too!"
This is honestly so nice to see! I’ve never played this series until the remake. What an amazing game. I’m finishing up my new game plus run so I can play Dead Space 2 for the first time.
It’s a small thing; but I was hoping for, and am glad that they brought back the little hum that plays when you complete an objective! I can’t wait to see the dividers, twitchers, and hunter!!!
Just looking at these clips I can see all the added details that enhance what was so good from the original. Good job on Motive for giving so much love and respect to an iconic game.
Back when Dead Space came out I was too scared to try the series out. But now that I have much more survival horror experience I'm feeling brave enough to try and dive in with this entry
This is seriously great. Watched it once by myself, then again with some friends - we were all so hyped. Love that after all this time we're getting another great installment of one of my favorite franchises. And between Calysto being what it was and money being tight, I may have never given it a shot if it weren't for this passionate and comprehensive review. Am looking forward to the hopefully nearby future when I get to play through it as well. TYSM!
I was so happy with how this game turned out! The original was one of the first games I ever bought and seeing it get a new lease on life is truly spectacular. Side note on the hanging woman: if you "cut" her down and leave and come back, she'll be right back in her hanging position with the damage you caused cutting her down still there. Don't know if it's a bug or not, but it's creepy as hell.
Love how she makes us feel like we all used to when we played the original games. Like a friend talking to us about the things we love. Keep making this awesome content, girl!
Hi there, I'm a huge fan of sci-fi and horror, and the intersection of the two is naturally enough one of my favorite sweet spots. Glad to hear this game turned out really well, and I'm interested in your future content since you seem to be focusing on stuff I love!
I'm so happy to see such positive reviews for this game. I was a bit nervous after The Callisto Protocol, but it looks like this game was in great hands. Awesome video as always, Suzi!
Why do people hate on the Callisto protocol anyway? It was a good little game with a well done story and they didnt force the male and female main characters to be romantic with eachother in any way. Had a a good bittersweet note at the end with how the main character felt about being an unwitting pawn, but still involved, in having caused bad things to happen. A solid B tier game. Nothing wrong with not being the next Hades.
@@bunnieskitties293 because it was touted as a successor to dead space and can't even lace up its boots. It was an okay game trying to emulate a great one and it falls flat in a lot of ways that make it a big disappointment.
Dead Space 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games ever. Hearing this remake has the Suzi Seal of Approval means it's a Must Buy for me. I even loved the RE2 remake a bunch, but passed on RE3R because of everything I heard about cuts and weirdness with it. The fact that this keeps everything from the original but adds more to adjust the structure into being a continuous map of the ship with the tram as fast travel sounds excellent. I can't wait to pick this up. Thanks for the amazing video Suzi! Always love your work.
Personally, I didn’t play RE2 remake until after I played the RE3 one and it’s crazy so many people probably didn’t play it because of cut content and weirdness because both games are good even though some stuff is missing
Same here. I actually only picked up Resident Evil starting at 7, and I loved it. So I played 2 Remake and it’s one of my favorite games of all time now. Then I saw all of the reviews and it looked like capcom got lazy. Still haven’t played 3 Remake but I have it in my library.
3make get a lot of unjustified flack. The only thing is the cut of a few areas, but its a good game. It being called short is dumb because original re3 can be beat in like an hour. Also the harder difficulty options add a bunch of cool stuff like different enemies and routes. I love the original but 3make isn't something to ignore.
It makes me so happy to go back to this game after such a long time. It felt so nostalgic seeing the Ishimura again and yet refreshing with all the new content and gameplay. Also, who else jumped right into hard mode the first time around?
After the Callisto Protocol was... the Callisto Protocol, I'm so relieved that the DS remake is phenomenal, especially with how much of a pain it is getting the original to run properly on PC nowadays

Motive had also done Star Wars Squadron which was a pretty good game. Great to see this studio getting recognition. This bode well for their next game : Iron Man. Curious to see if EA is gonna order a Dead Space 2 & 3 remake or even a brand new Dead Space from them. Great video Suzi!
Makes me so happy that DSR came out well, been very skeptical about a remake because of how DS3 came out and how EA is nowadays but hearing your thoughts about how this came out and hearing so much positive definitely picking this up when I get the chance hope Motive is able to spruce up DS2 in the future and who knows maybe try their hand at another mainline game to continue the story.
EA has been absolutely horrible for as long as I’ve been a gamer. They don’t deserve anyone’s money at this point. This game looks fantastic and I’m excited to play it when I can find a used copy, but I’m honestly frustrated that so many people will buy it at launch and essentially reward EA for killing Visceral and many other studios. Like, they are one of the worst publishers around, predatory and exploitative in their business practices and abusive towards their employees. There’s a reason they win “most hated company in America” so often.
My only (small) gripe was changing how Nicole looked. I understand she looks like the voice actress now, but it's supposed to be a remake. So I wish Nicole looked the same as DS1 for the nostalgia.
I didn't realise it would be so nice to hear someone to say "Dead Space is back" till I heard Suzie! This video has really sold me, I forgot how hyped I was for this, but waiting for the review PC port review is probably the wisest thing. Here is hoping its good!
Great review. Glad to hear the game is good. Does the map do something similar like in the RE remakes where it keeps track of locked doors and items you haven't picked up yet? That was a really nice QOL feature that helped me enjoy those games more as it kept track of those things for me.
@@halocrafter300 Yeah. I got a hold of it and am playing it right now. I have been taking notes of chests and doors I can't unlock yet. About Isaac’s “skillful waddle” if you’ve ever done some serious construction or home renovation, walking around with a fully loaded tool belt, painters pants, steel toed boots, ect. You will absolutely feel that “skillful waddle” when you move.
I love how aggressive isaac swing his weapon for melee, it's not the "get away from me" type of swing, it's more like a "I'm gonna fuck you up" type of swing
The fact that the devs went far into making references to the tie-in comics released at the time of the first game is a testament to how much passion went to this project. What was only implied in the first game is outright confirmed in the remake when it came to the Hunter's origins. And they even went into making the captain's death more in line with what happened in the Downfall movie, making him sound more unhinged and paranoic than how he was in the original game.
Anytime you can fully backtrack to the start of a game yet encounter random events reminds me of the original resident evil 3 on the PlayStation which is one of my favorite re’s of all time
The one little detail I LOVED about This game. Let's say Issac is about to run out of oxygen right, it gets so quiet, you'll start to hear him choking and gagging trying to gasp for air and the atmosphere gets more quiet when he's about pass away. And another thing is when the monsters throw acid at him, you really do feel and hear Issac's pain. I find these mind blowing, it's hard to explain tbh but if you play it you'll actually see what I mean. EA motive well Done 🙌🏾
What I realized was the biggest bummer was when I finally finished the sidequests in chapter 10 and 11 and they required literally going back and forth across the whole Ishimura, primarily into the mining section 😅 i don't know how many security doors I wound up leaving behind because of it, but I know of at least 2 or 3 and I'm sad and hope New Game + allows you to keep the security clearance
It doesn’t but it lets you keep your master security override and it makes some sense you would be able to access areas earlier than you should be able to possibly breaking the game.
Oh my god, in 3 minutes you’d essentially told me anything I could possibly want to know! And then there’s 23 more minutes of fantastic content. You spoil us.
Seeing all of the insane praise this has been getting from reviews, I'm super glad to hear all of it! I can't wait to get my hands on it. There's just something so addicting to Dead Space for me that other games can't seem to hit.
I watched a lot of reviews for the remake and I liked yours the best. I think you managed to talk about all the new features - the narrative, the intensity director, the seemless Ishimura, the weapons - with the most sophistication. Granted, your review was 10 to 15 minutes longer than most, but your enthusiasm and arguments were very compelling. Thanks for your hard work.
So I never actually played the original DS, as I got into survival horror much later in life, but I'm glad to hear nothing but glowing and positive reviews between you and some other outlets I follow / trust. Definitely waiting for work to end so I can go home and start playing this (luckily I can start the download for my PS5 from my work computer) Also, I'm still waiting for Dino Crisis to get the REmake 2 treatment from Capcom.... I can only imagine what dinos would look like with the RE Engine
This game truly did everything I wanted it to do Dead Space 1’s level design with Dead Space 2’s fantastic combat I really hope everything works out and a follow up will be made to keep this excellent series alive
Just hearing how they expanded on the original from the seamless station exploration with extra side content, not just Gunner Wright back to deliver his performance for DS1 Isaac but the entire cast being explored further and new scenes to make an even more impactful story, the attention to detail in the environments and enemy layer system to take the immersion of the world to another level, the overhaul of the weapon upgrades and all the replayability with random encounters and elevating memorable scenarios, it looks like a labour of love and outstanding remake. I didn't follow this game and what they were aiming to achieve with this remake, but I'm very impressed. Crazy that all these years later we would get the RE1R treatment for Dead Space considering it's been over a decade not just since the original but this series has laid dormant. I don't mind the wait but I'm sure many found the announcement of a remake of 1 to be very difficult to be excited for without knowing the lengths they went to modernise and overhaul this game to now become an all time classic for generations to come. Remaking Dead Space seemed like it could be very risky to get right and not all that necessary. The story and the atmosphere are so detailed, that this could have fallen far short but it just seems to nail it. After this video, this was a wait for sale to a buy as soon as a respectable deal comes around. I think the dev deserves it and I think many people would love them to continue this, maybe not straight away but at some point in the future. I'm actually a little nervous that RE4R won't quite match the sort of care put into this. At this point, with all the content they put into this game, if the Mercenaries, most of the main scenario but maybe more from Ada/Luis/Ashley and a good amount of replayability isn't there for RE4R, I think I would be a little disappointed, as the original might be even harder to remake and expand on well. I'm not expecting the game to follow the original exactly but I hope what they add and expand on really delivers something cool and memorable. I have high hopes Capcom will bring their A game. I want two absolute masterpieces of the genre to be remade to perfection back to back but we will wait and see how things turn out. I don't want to see more, but if they don't release anything else other than the opening village fight and the demo only covers that opening fight, even with the trailer footage, it might be a little worrying that it isn't clear what the scope of the remake will end up being and whether it will successfully remake and reimagine the original with justice.
It's so crazy to me that EA has become known for these shitty online multiplayer games but whenever they actually bother to make a single player game it usually turns out great. EA is just better at single player games and they just don't want to admit that.
I'm honestly getting sick of the modern gaming discourse of "Why'd they make X ugly" and its literally just a real ass adult woman who is very obviously based on an actress or model. And god forbid they try to escalate the discourse by saying its some moralist anti sex agenda. Like I love ass checks as much as the next gamer, but let fighting ladies wear equally tight fitting pants or spats, sometimes its even hotter.
I was never against the idea of a Deadspace remake, but EA’s destruction of Visceral and many other talented studios has definitely convinced me to buy it used so EA doesn’t get my money. Hopefully I can find a used physical copy in a game store around me soon.
@@mrdoggo3569 I mean obviously I can only speak for myself but I never thought the game was going to be trash. I saw who they hired at Motive and it’s talented people. They were working from a really good blueprint and had a host of incredible contemporary survival horror remakes to draw ideas from. The dev diaries and pre-release materials showed an attention to detail as well as some novel ideas like the layered damage system. It was all pointing towards quality. All that said, I do find it frustrating that EA is going to make so much money off of it, I don’t feel like they deserve it considering their record in terms of both customer exploitation and abuse of employees. Hence my decision to buy used. It’s just something I do for EA games (and Ubisoft and ActiBlizz) these days. I work in labor and prisoner advocacy, I see a lot of big game-publishers as some of the worst offenders in the corporate world today. I try not to support them as much as I can. Sometimes that’s difficult because like everyone else here I’m a big nerd and I’m a sucker for nostalgia.
High praise and exactly the kind of thing that I want to hear in a review for a game that I am very eager to play. Its fantastic that it manages to surpass its original by taking the opportunity to improve on the game and even add more to it so that you can replay it over and over with a different experience each time. When you make a game with love it shows and clearly these people wanted it to be a proper remake. Would be amazing to see Dead Space 2 get the same treatment. I'm so happy that Motive hit the ball out of the park.
Only to chapter 4 on first playthrough and dang, its like reliving the nightmare all over again but with a fresh coat of hd paint. There should be black and white mode it would look like the most terrifying 50's sci fi horror ever made. Gameplay is awesome, ishimura looks amazing, music is on freaking lock.

I hope Dead Space 3 is completely disregarded.
no need to re-imagine ds3. just make ds3 the all new orginal title. forget the orginal ds3 even exists would be the best course of action

"I gotta enter the ADS trench and recalibrate the cannons in an asteroid rainstorm."
"I gotta enter Food Storage and finish off the Leviathan."
"I gotta mess with dangerous mining equipment to plant an SOS beacon on an asteroid."
It ties directly with the line in DS2 when Isaac has to return to the Ishimura.
"Isaac, no! This is a really bad idea!"
"Stick around.

The parasite eve OST fits together with dead space better than I would have thought.
The thing in the bathroom and girl hanging around was wild. The details, amazing.
I'm so happy to hear that they did DS justice. Also, I hear that Parasite Eve score... great choice.
RE3R is fantastic don't let ppl shape your opinion!

Squadron was a snoozefest. They did make the campaign in battlefront 2. As predictable as that story was. It still looked and played great.

Great review. Glad to hear the game is good. Does the map do something similar like in the RE remakes where it keeps track of locked doors and items you haven't picked up yet? That was a really nice QOL feature that helped me enjoy those games more as it kept track of those things for me.
Unfortunately the only thing it does is display rooms you haven’t been in as a darker blue on the map.

Your voice, personality and witty comments I love so much. I just found ya and have been watching your vids. Keep up the good work because it’s phenomenal
I think the super early scare on the elevator was better on the original, the monster looked scarier.
About Isaac’s “skillful waddle” if you’ve ever done some serious construction or home renovation, walking around with a fully loaded tool belt, painters pants, steel toed boots, ect. You will absolutely feel that “skillful waddle” when you move.
I'm finishing Re4 remake and coming back to this after!
Anytime you can fully backtrack to the start of a game yet encounter random events reminds me of the original resident evil 3 on the PlayStation which is one of my favorite re’s of all time
Hate to start my day with driving to Walmart at 6 am but here we are.
The game is almost perfect. The voice actors they picked for Dr Kyne, Mercer, and Captain Mathis are very generic next to the original voice actors.
There's a lot more issues besides, but the voice acting was a huge downgrade. Nicole's and Hammond's performances are very lackluster as well.
Oh my god, in 3 minutes you’d essentially told me anything I could possibly want to know! And then there’s 23 more minutes of fantastic content. You spoil us.

Definitely waiting for work to end so I can go home and start playing this (luckily I can start the download for my PS5 from my work computer)
Also, I'm still waiting for Dino Crisis to get the REmake 2 treatment from Capcom.... I can only imagine what dinos would look like with the RE Engine
This game truly did everything I wanted it to do
Dead Space 1’s level design with Dead Space 2’s fantastic combat
I really hope everything works out and a follow up will be made to keep this excellent series alive
She does look ugly though. Why would they make Isaac look 19 while at the same time making Nicole look 50?
So, basically: If the original is "Western Dev Version of RE4", this remake is "RE7/RE2make"?
I was never against the idea of a Deadspace remake, but EA’s destruction of Visceral and many other talented studios has definitely convinced me to buy it used so EA doesn’t get my money. Hopefully I can find a used physical copy in a game store around me soon.
that logic never made sense to me tbh. Its like you were hoping the game would be trash so you could say "i told you"
@@mrdoggo3569 I mean obviously I can only speak for myself but I never thought the game was going to be trash.
So brutal we aren't gonna get a second one due to the lack of support from the fans
I just finished it a few minutes ago, and I absolutely loved it. I hope we get a remake of the 2nd game!
