  • I spotted this Hummer H2 at the SEMA show in Las Vegas a while back. It claims to get 100 mpg with bolt on technology.
    I am intrigued by this technology because I want a fuel efficient hybrid but I dont want to by a Prius or a Tesla...I want a 4x4 truck!!! With this technology it looks like I can finally have a hybrid 4x4 truck.
    Here is a some info from their website...
    www.goodwinassi...
    The Patented Goodwin Assist is a revolutionary new technology for converting Hummers into highly fuel efficient plug in hybrids. The Goodwin Assist is focused squarely on bang for the buck proposition of maximizing fuel savings with minimal capital investment resulting in the shortest ROI.
    Benefits: 18-24 Months ROI, 60% Fuel Cost Reduction, 60% Less Emissions
    The Goodwin Assist provides 80% of the financial benefits of other solutions at 20% of the cost. Typical drive trains, transmissions and internal combustion engines are highly inefficient. Goodwin Assist components include a state of the art electric motor, system controller, and a modular lithium ion battery pack...which can be plugged into any standard 1-10 outlet, to store inexpensive power from the grid.
    The Goodwin Assist applies that stored energy via the electric motor to assist the internal combustion engine when it is most inefficient, significantly reducing workload of the engine and the use of fossil fuel. This duel-fuel approach allows vehicles to take advantage of the great power delivered at the equivalent of $0.75 per gallon.
    The Goodwin Assist reads the engines performance and increases the assist when the internal combustion engine will benefit most from a fuel saving perspective such as frequent starts and stops.
    The Goodwin Assist requires no EPA approval or crash testing, and is comprised mostly of approved off the shelf components from industry leading automotive providers. Once converted, these vehicles see their fuel cost is cut in half or more. The conversion process is simple, inexpensive and requires no major overhaul of the vehicle.
    Goodwin Assist's unique engineering allows for uninterrupted driving on the unlikely event of a system or component failure, making The Patented Goodwin Assist the only alternative for critical vehicle operation. This development has seen multiple generations of prototype vehicles with significant efforts placed on safety, components testing and systems engineering .
    Untold hours of refinement and testing as well as enough miles driven across the United States many times over has allowed us to prove The Goodwin Assist system. The vehicles have exceed over 100 MPG with a simple to install retrofit solution.In addition of course is a performance mode. This mode allows the end user to maximize the performance benefit of the electric motors power. It becomes a reverse supercharger. Another feature of the system is regenerative braking. In this mode the Goodwin Assist becomes a generator for those critical times were electricity is at a premium.

    I pulled 30 cars through our neighborhood in my stock height h2 with duratrac tires when it iced. Hills and all. With no trouble. Big trucks and jeeps had hell. I motored along with no issues. Offroad it was amazing. It was also a smooth plush ride. Only issue was replacing a hub.

    I had my H2 converted over to a propane dual fuel system, it starts on gas and when the engine is warmed up it switches over to run on propane. My fill cost is 0.47¢/litre so about $40 a tank and I get about 375KM. Propane has a higher octane rating than gasoline (104 to 112, compared with 87 to 92 for gasoline) and potentially more horsepower, but its lower British thermal unit (Btu) rating per gallon results in lower fuel economy. However, the price per litre can quickly offset the lower fuel economy.
    The potential for lower maintenance costs are one reason behind propane's popularity for high-mileage vehicles. Propane's high octane rating, combined with its low-carbon and low oil-contamination characteristics, has resulted in improved engine life compared to conventional gasoline engines. Because the fuel's mixture (propane and air) is completely gaseous when entering the engine's combustion chamber-and does not require an enriched fuel mixture for combustion such as with many liquid fuels-cold start problems can often be reduced.

      I'd like to consider running the hybrid electric system along with the lpg/propane, be equivalent to 100+mpg

    • @ashleywhiteman2684
      @ashleywhiteman2684 3 года назад

      @@dand6298 biggest costs are the tank and fitting. I run a 5 cylinder volvo with lpg conversion, the kits for that can be £800 to £1500.
      Quickly offset the cost though, I've done 10k this year predominantly on gas/LPG which has cut between 1/2&2/3 off the bill

    There have been a few companies that have come up with bolt-on hybrid technologies. It's basically a motor / generator that gets put in as a belt drive auxillary device, just like your alternator or AC unit, with a controller that interfaces with your ECU, and a big bank of batteries that gets stashed somewhere. I've never heard of one that acted as a true plug-in (able to drive without the engine running), but maybe these guys have some new tricks. I'd love to find one that could bolt on to my recently acquired 300SD Benz that runs on veggie oil... that would make a hell of a fuel inflation fighter!

      I remember seeing truck that ran on wood chips using gasification. it's not quite green but the thought of being able to drive where ever there is Wood is still interesting from a Prepper point of view. combine gasification with 100mpg hybrid and you might be able to drive across the country with just a few campfire logs?

    • @GoingGoneGalt
      @GoingGoneGalt 8 лет назад

      Engineer775 has a few gassifiers on his channel... some even work by gasifying plastic. It's labor-intensive, but it works. I'm betting the H2 gets that 100mpg about ten miles at a time... then sitting for a twelve hour charge.. then another ten miles... just a hunch. A smaller gassifier feeding a smaller engine driving a genny and then an electric vehicle might work as well... a sort of homebrew series hybrid. It's all in how hard you want to work for it. There are no free rides or magic bullets. We are all slaves to the laws of thermodynamics and physics.

    I believe Jeep are working on a similar tech for the wrangler. It uses a electric motor to charge a battery pack while driving then, when stopping it stops charging the battery. When you start off it uses the battery power to help the Internal Combustion Engine to spin up quicker effectively adding HP to the ICE.

    I know it’s your opinion but Hummers are actually cool you’re one of a few people that dislike them. But I think they’re really nice trucks and if you modify them right they are really good for offloading and when I mean modify I mean modifying the suspension system and it is a really good off-road truck.

    I'd be interested in learning more about the modifications and which vehicles are available for this mod. For new vehicles, it appears (and maybe it's just me) that the only manufacturer doing large vehicles anymore is GM with the Suburban which they don't offer from the factory with diesel anymore. So we are almost always looking for franken-rigs. e.g. putting cummins into suburban, or some other combination of mixed manufactured parts. Yes I am interested, just not in the hummer h2 version. That rig is a terrible daily driver.

    • @mixflip
      @mixflip  8 лет назад

      I agree. I'd like to bolt this technology onto a new Toyota Tundra....not an H2.
      H line conversions who does the install of this kit has a video that says this kit is designed for all GM LS engines for now.
      they are also working on a hybrid design that bolts on after the transmission so it can run the vehicle in an emergency in case the gas motor takes a hit. I think it's being developed for the military.

  • @HVTMuddvain

    How do you figure an H2 is horrible off road? Locking transfer case locking rear diff 4.10 gears stock near 400HP and Tq stock 35” BFGs fits up to a 37-12.50 stock without height adjustment solid boxed framing no twisting the chassis AWD im not seeing the down falls here sure it has its limits just like any wheeler but stock it beats 90% of anything out there just my personal opinion of course to each their own obviously oh and dont forget about clearances approach and departure decent break over as well stock obviously rigs with lifts and larger tires that becomes irrelevant but as is hmmm🤔

    • @mixflip
      @mixflip  5 лет назад

      True...I dont know for sure it's bad off road since I dont own one. Its probably not as bad as you would think. I'm just thinking about it's insane weight and size coupled with its IFS. I'd own one if it had this hybrid kit and it actually performed as advertised.

    because its connected to the motor yes better mileage but you run outa fuel you still stuck. electric motors connected to wheels or some other part of the drive train and a solar panel on the roof, I kinda like the idea that if you run out of fuel just camp out have a cold one and wait for a full charge

      it's basically an electric supercharger with regenerative braking. the electric motor is connected to the crank shaft with a 2 inch Kevlar belt and helps the pistons turn the crankshaft. kinda like 2 people carrying a Jerry can of fuel vs just one person....so to speak.

    bolt on an electric motor, battery, controller. with 100 mpg you won't have 300 HP . if you want 300 HP it will still be 15 mpg. I hope I'm wrong but I see no miracles here. I gave you a thumbs up so if you get more info I find it interesting. Having a hydrogen generator and filling up with salt water may be better.

      I own H1 and H2 and a Jeep Rubicon and wife has a Jeep Liberty ( we live in northern 🇨🇦) couldn’t live without a truck or 4by 4 up here...
      I laugh every time someone asks me about the gas mileage..I hate to break it to all the haters but if you own any full size pickup or a Jeep your gas mileage is about the same as what my H2 gets...
      Also if I have to go to work in the bush camp I never take my Jeeps ,they have left me stranded too many times (Crank and cam Position Sensors failed twice,fuel pump once etc...)
      Not one of my Hummers have left me stranded..the 6.0L Vortex is bullet proof ..
      My Hummers have also rescued/towed out a few logging machines stuck in mud/ice...
      Last point for dependable it’s been
      -36 Celsius here most of winter so far..(that’s -32.8 degree Fahrenheit for you yanks) even after sitting for 2-3weeks frozen solid (went to Hawaii) when I got back my wife’s Jeep Liberty needed a boast, and the Rubicon needed Quick-start ...(yes both Jeeps had block heaters on timers)
      Both the H1 and H2 fired right up...
      So I laugh every time someone who probably doesn’t even own a Hummer tells me they are pieces of Shit ...
      I owned both new from factory..except for oil & spark plugs & brake pads( all normal wear) I haven’t had to spend a dime ... that’s 12 years of dependability...I spray both Hummers with the used oil underneath (frame etc) it keeps them rust free...
      I will post another update in 10 years with pretty much the same results...
      Cheers from HudsonBay,Ontario 🇨🇦
