Very helpful.....our bolts were actually just standard Phillips screws....everyone I have seen working on them it's the T20. We went out and bought the secure driver and didn't even need it lol.
My e-bike motor had Philips screws not security torx. I use an "impact driver" to break them free. I was also getting strange noise from motor only sometimes when giving the motor power. I didn't see a clear issue when i took motor apart, but found some thick dark grease, which I cleaned out and replaced with mobil 28. I also replaced the one way clutch and nylon gears with a whole new gear set. I'm now just waiting on a new tire to arrive because the old one was bald after 2000 miles and I hope everything will be like new.
Excellent video I did exactly what you said and it went great. Do I have to clean out any grease in there before putting in the mobile 28? I have 1700 miles on mine and it started making a grinding noise when I throttled from a dead stop. After opening it up there's not much grease left in there. I also learned to not tighten the nuts with a ratchet wrench. One of the screws broke off. So then there was five lol
4:09 the very best grease to use is Molykote PG-75 which is hard to find in small pots (UK shop does 30ml pots that is enough for 2-3 services). This is because some grease is petroleum based and softens the nylon gears causing them to fail early.
I use Lucas Red N Tacky grease because it is a lithium base grease, so it is safe for nylon gears. Far better than the white stuff. I THINK IT IS THE BEST BECAUSE IT IS MEANT NOT TO SLING OFF!
Stan, you ever have to reglue magnets inside motor, I've seen j b weld used. Thank you. Great idea on the grinding of first gear. I will definitely use that...👍
look at the bolts holding the disc rotor...if they are drilled all the way thru you can inject grease in it without disassembly...a hell of a lot easier than disassembly
It looks like the gear Gloster after 3,000 miles could be changed. Some of the teeth on the gears have seen better days and I wonder about chain stretching? All things to consider when doing this kind of maintenance.
As soon as Stan drops a vid, I drop everything. Great job. It looks like the motor is the small one. I wish I had your low gear. Mine gives me plenty of clearance to take the screws out. Larger motors and bigger controllers use more juice. More speed equals less distance. But I would like the bigger motor for mine. Just because u have it doesn’t mean u have to use it. I am sure not many people accumulate the miles u do. U r a true “rat” in the best of ways!! Super channel!!!! Thank u Stan!!
@@stanthereservoirrat5934 U r the one that keeps us going!! I have used a number of your suggestions. The one about the little electric pump was real good. I let the tires down to 9 or so in the rough stuff. As soon as I get back to the road I go up to 16. Handles way better. You’re info on the switches and batteries was also great!
Thanks bud I'll give that a try ! I wanted to switch out my motor as I upgraded my battery to 52v 20 ah , triangle battery . I have everything here and now it's time for the swap . I'm also thinking of running both batteries . And mounting my stock battery on the back rack , My triangle battery in the frame if , I can get it to fit ? And you have the extended cable and the upgraded controller and LCD I got everything from Bolton .
Hi Stan, Can you please do a video on adjusting the Radrover brakes so they don't squeal? Mine are driving me crazy. I can't seem to get them all the way quiet. Thanks, Steve G.
It's a Rad, so it's 500 Watt nominal 750 Watt peak even though Rad markets it as a 750 Watt motor. You can see in the video that it's smaller than a Bafang 750 watt motor.
Hi there, What is that white plastic thing sticking up from inside the motor? Timestamp: ruclips.net/video/TcEcO1ECNW0/видео.html with that black stripe around it. It would really help me if I could identify it. Thanks. :)
Hi Stan, thanks for this video, it gives me hope that maybe mine just need a bit of grease. I would like to know what it sounded like beforehand as I want to compare the sound coming from my motor, do you have instagram or anything that I could possibly message you on? Thanks dude

Don't be afraid to add more of that grease.
Also it's a good idea to replace the grease about every 1000 to 1500 miles.

Yea smart idea notching the gear. And that is real good information too. Thanks alot. Now when my motor gets loud I know what to do.
It looks like the gear Gloster after 3,000 miles could be changed. Some of the teeth on the gears have seen better days and I wonder about chain stretching? All things to consider when doing this kind of maintenance.
Curious, after that noise was the hub spinning or not spinning?
Great video… I was very apprehensive about opening the motor up but you made it understandable and relatable…. Thanks

Thanks for the nice comment! Keeps me going!

In Spain we use olive oil for everything!
I love olive oil on my pizza.
But Olive Oil - while digestible for eating - is a poor lube for these gears.
the white grease that was in the motor before was not lithium grease, it was most likely a syntetic teflon grease
3:57 I’m going with Mobil 28. I’ve also heard of molykote 44 being used plus Pg 75
I really enjoyed watching your video it eas very informative. So im grateful very much. Thanks
Nice work Stan nice little tip i like doing things like this being a former motorcycle rider i move to E Bikes to help me fill my void.???

While apart, I'd recommend swamping in a actual 750W motor. It's a very popular upgrade in the Rovers.
Freewheel removal tool is easy to use.
Not when the motor cable is in the way, unless you have a specialty tool.
Mobil-28 works good in these *and* in BBS-HD mid-drive motors. I’ve put it in both kinds.
Thank alot mine is making noise going to use the mobile 28 ray from cleve ohio have good day
Hi Stan, Can you please do a video on adjusting the Radrover brakes so they don't squeal? Mine are driving me crazy. I can't seem to get them all the way quiet. Thanks, Steve G.
breaks squealing are usually due to contamination, you can try using break clean on them if that does not work change out the pads
Rubbing alcohol also works.
Resin pads help
Smart move with the removal of metal
I used red lithium grease works well
Thanks for the video.
I'm curious how much opening the motor case effects it's IP water resistance rating?
good idea,gracias
Planatary. Gears. Where. Is. Avail. Sir
good idea to notch the gear...thanks Stan
Definitely a shengyi motor. You didn't clean out the old grease before applying the 28? How much power you pushing from the motor?

what about lubing the wheel bearing?
Excellent How-To, Stan! Thank you!
Great tips Stan!
Good idea for those who have a 34 tooth 1st gear. I never use mine either.
Thanks stan. Helpful

dam mc guyver ur bike still work ?
thank s

Looks like the areas needs to be cleaned first .. that’s a lot going on in there
"security bit" means anti consumer bit.
nylon gears = silicone grease
Hi there, What is that white plastic thing sticking up from inside the motor? Timestamp: ruclips.net/video/TcEcO1ECNW0/видео.html with that black stripe around it. It would really help me if I could identify it. Thanks. :)
The white gears look plastic or nylon. Have to be careful choosing grease.
You are correct. Do not use any lithium grease on plastic gears. Need to use a silicon type of grease.
Whirring
Can i use SLIPKOTE??
Not sure what that is?
@@stanthereservoirrat5934 And what do you think of SUPER LUB?
Your mom said KY works well.
What about adding more speeds? Like a double gear in the front. I need lower I’m the woods.

No I don't have a before sound. It made a whirring noise.
Was the hub spinning after you pull the throttle after the noise or it did not spin
