I suspect it was my comment about most well-regarded headphones being generally close to Harman that was referenced here. I should clarify that this comment was meant with respect to general level and shape of ear the gain above 1khz being closer to Harman than any other target, and not the rest of the tuning exactly - and those headphones certainly don't all match it in other areas, and they measure differently from one another. I also agree with Jude that those headphones in question do not sound the same, and that adherence to the Harman target is NOT the only indicator of 'good sound'.
The IE900 are the Holy Grail for your personal sound experience. I worked in pro audio for 20 years and I have never heard anything like it. You must try them.
I loved the ie800, very petite and unassuming in appearance but they had huge soul. Sold my Shure 846's because they were too bulky. Comparing the two always felt like comparing Nascar to F1. Will have to pick up another pair before they are gone forever. And to the TSA agent who stole my ie800s from my bag right before a long international flight, there is a special place in hell for you!
it is a preference curve created from diffuse feild(pinnae compensation for iem) and room gain as starting point. after that, it was given to many people to try and then give feedback(and the test sample had every type of people, from trained to untrained ears, from old to young, and of different regions) and is still under improvement and is not so called final tuning what it does right is room gain effect on Low frequency and what it does wrong is undercontrolled pinnae, leading to shouty vocal harmonics well, Senn and clear do sound alike utopia is sort of not alike due to how its upper mids or pinae gain is shaped starting from 1kHz onward but you can bare some resemblance to the tonal character and then there is angle and driver own way of working(at what principles its made on) too, which creates a completely different acoustic pattern when reaching ear
I own the ie800 and had the se846, compared both! the ie800 has a tighter buttery beautiful bass (not boomy) and it’s way more- highly detailed- in the treble! Which is great for cymbals. The new ie900 iems are definitely far superior to The se846, check out the frequency response of the two.
Thats exactly the question I have. Have settled on SE846 a while ago (after SE535 and SE530 before them). Tried ie 800 for few weeks and sold them. Did not like the fit and there was some microphonics, isolation was worse and sound signature was not as not nice to my ears (nice base, but highs are a bit on a thin side and a bit piercing).
Okay, I'm going to state this publically and for the record... ..... .... fuck it! I am going to buy an hd800s, once and for all, and put to rest the indecisiveness I have experienced for so long based on the negative feedback that is mentioned about it. If I am being completely frank, I don't know if a day has gone by in the past two years that I haven't at least had a fleeting thought or rather desire to just try them out. That is all, thanks for your time. - Mike
I had the HD800s briefly sent them back to Amazon they sounded fantastic!! Just as good as my ie800s but I had to equalize them on Spotify-bass all the way down! Treble all the way up.
Very interesting how do they compare to the ie500 pro. Which I own and do find them nearly perfect sounding except 1,5-3,5 khz region that sounds well and smoothly but some kind of downcharged about 3-4 dbs
ie900! Definitely would sound better! but you could save money and buy a used pair of ie800s on EBay for under $300 which I currently own! They sound fantastic on the my iPhone. Not much difference when I listen to them on my Oppo ha-se Dac/portable amplifier. Plus you’ll only lose 10 to 15% improvement in sound if you buy the ie300.
A review of the IE600 would be very appreciated. as it is a middle ground between IE 300 and IE 900. There us nowhere a THD chart to be found of the IE 600.
people new to the hobby always think neutural sound = great headphone. i find the most enjoyable headphones to be v shaped to various degrees. neutural headphones are for work.
A very good view of the Harman Target Curve, I am sick and tired to hear Headphones only sound really good when they use an EQ based on the Harman Target Curve. For me this is absolute BS.
The choice of frequency response comparisons is odd to me. Why not just overlay it on Harman IE target curve? Comparison of in ear measurement to over ear headphones is just a strange choice from clarity point of view. I bet many people watching this are more confused now.
@@GrumpiestKitten But do we not all not consume music, in exchange for spondooliks? I've spent a bucket load to leave mid fi, which is only good now to wake me up in the morn. Comparisons to it's rivals will come soon.

@@leoyu1070 Sennheiser says IE300 is based on IE800 so... All new senn IEMs incorporate identical driver main difference being number of chambers and tunning refinment not much pure technicalities. For that reason price strategy across IE300/600/900 is odd. If IE900 received price bump to a whoping 1500$ then IE300 should cost 1000$ given it gets you 80% of IE900 sound with only slightly less textured bass and less refined treble. More V-shaped than IE800 and you call that neutral??

Compared to the Beyerdynamic Xelento iem? Both have x1 DD.
interesting it looks quite vig but the 7mm driver placement nad size makes most of the housing efecively empty? it looks as empty as SE215

Yeah to me HD650 sounds not good without EQ, too less bass and too vivid mid range.
Sounds like it's a rehash of existing IE 300/400/500 in a different shell and extra cables.
Except where it's all new design inside and new materials, other than that yes, rehash.
