    This is the most eye opening video for me. I have quit several times in the past...infact I stayed smoke free for 2 years almost from 2018 until 2021. But everytime I had quit I used rice flakes as a crutch and am addicted to them badly. No wonder I felt that the physical craving never ended for me after years. This time I decided to avoid rice flakes altogether, nor take anything else when I crave. I'm two days smoke-free as of today 26 June 2022...thanks to you Joel. Your channel is saving so many smokers on their quit journey.

    5d 12h 45m- Joel you are doing a really great thing here. 24 years of smoking- I did not think this was possible. Now I'm actually hopeful! Thank you.

    Carefully pay attention to this video to understand the implication of using even a positive activity like exercise as a crutch. Also check out the video "Taking up exercise after quitting smoking." One other I would recommend is "New reactions to anger after quitting smoking."

    My quit of six days broke because I ate a lot of substitutes to quit. This time it's absolutely cold turkey...no crutch at all. You need to follow the advice exactly as it is given here...you are right about crutches Joel.

    I've had several drinks only and a few joints only in the past month. I had 6 drinks yesterday to celebrate 4 days off cigarettes. I'm not giving up the above because I don't have a drinking problem, nor a thc problem. Oh, I'm not giving up my daily few coffees either

    • @alexxela8956
      @alexxela8956 7 лет назад

      And I won't use these as crutches. For example, today I've had two coffees and a light lunch only

    • @joelspitz
      @joelspitz  7 лет назад +2

      Having six drinks in one day is clearly an increase in consumption. If you are correct in your assessment that you don't have a drinking problem now, that does not mean that you cannot develop a drinking problem in the future. Increasing consumption after quitting is a recipe for such a problem occurring. Its like a person saying that they never had a weight problem suddenly increasing food consumption after quitting. Many people using this strategy end up with a weight issue. An when dealing with alcohol, you are increasing consumption of a chemical that has its own addictive potential. Again watch the video "Do whatever it takes to quit smoking" ruclips.net/video/72UjMsr_gfw/видео.html

    Is a few good quality coffees a day bad for you like cigarettes are? I'm not quitting coffee

      Check out the video Possible changes in caffeine tolerance ruclips.net/video/Pp_tMBGX_xY/видео.html
      It will explain how some people have to cut back on caffeine consumption after quitting or experience undesirable effects from the caffeine--like feelings of nervousness and jitteriness. As far as coffee being as bad as cigarettes are, check out the video "But smoking is the only vice I have left" ruclips.net/video/OfRozKYnzdc/видео.html
      Another video really hitting home the point of just how dangerous cigarettes are is Premature deaths caused by smoking ruclips.net/video/U5a7DsgdOzU/видео.html

    why isn't the patch recommended? isn't it easier to cold turkey off a patch, a lower dose of nicotine, than it is to quit a pack a day habit cold turkey???

      @joelspitz  6 лет назад +1

      When it comes to smoking and quitting there are many fears--some legitimate, some irrational.
      Here is a page dedicated to different kind of fears: whyquit.com/joels-videos/fears-regarding-smoking-and-quitting/
      The fear you are expressing here fits into the legitimate category.
      Easy solution to it though is quit smoking without turning to any other substance. Another good page addressing this issue is whyquit.com/joels-videos/do-whatever-it-takes-to-quit-smoking/

      Hello Trevor: At five days it is not prudent to be writing off your ongoing symptoms to simply having quit smoking.

      id like too hear what you think about my particular situation . the panic and anxiety is slowly going away. i was addicted to THC, Nicotine and caffiene for 10 years. i cold turkey stopped using all those substances at once. one heck of a withdrawl, but salvation shouldn't be to far away. i also do not have a doctor. i dont make a whole lot of money. i enjoy watching your videos they help me stay strong. alot of people comment with the same symptoms i have and makes me able to cope and see the light ahead. if i get worse ill look into a doctor, otherwise im gonna ride this out as long as i can. Thank you for you're help!!

    • @joelspitz
      @joelspitz  7 лет назад +1

      A lot of people may comment with the same symptoms but you need to be careful as to writing off ongoing symptoms just on the basis that other people mentioned them too. The video "Is anyone else experiencing the symptom...?" ruclips.net/video/0EJ3OtwhyiI/видео.html discusses this issue. This concept is applicable when reading at any Internet site. You don't always know the full background of why things are happening just because of comments from others. Your own case here is a good example. You came in saying that you were experiencing very specific symptoms five days into your quit simply saying that you had quit cold turkey "smoking/chewing. " I suspected there was more to the story being that you were five days in. Now you added that you had also given up THC and caffeine at the same time. I often saw people who were in my clinics complaining of symptoms of caffeine withdrawal lasting longer than there nicotine withdrawal. If you do a little research you will see that some people have symptoms with caffeine withdrawal going beyond the three day mark. Also now THC is in the equation. The reason I am highlighting this issue is so that you don't make the same assumptions from other things people may write on the Internet--they may not be giving you the full story either. As far as for not having much money, if you are cutting out the purchase of nicotine, caffeine and THC containing products, you are likely going to be saving a lot of money over your lifetime. When I was doing clinics that were costing anywhere between $20 up to $150 there were plenty of times when people told me they couldn't afford the clinic. I always found this quite amazing considering the cost of cigarettes at the times. These people would normally spend that amount of money for cigarettes in a month or less. The clinic was a one time cost. The cost of cigarettes were likely going to cost them thousands or tens of thousands over their lifetime if they did not quit. Check out the video Money wasted on cigarettes ruclips.net/video/aQTxFbzhFZk/видео.html. Again, in your case you can also add in the caffeine and THC containing products. If you continue having symptoms work out a way to see a doctor as discussed in the video "Is anyone else experiencing the symptom...?" linked above.

      thank you for the quick responses. i was in so much stress and panic when i wrote my first comment i forgot to mention caffiene and thc were also a factor. i have made a doctor appointment for April 10th, the worst part of my day is waking up. i have terrible anxiety but gets easier each day. I have no prior anxiety conditions. BUT ! im not writing it off because when it comes down to it you are very correct, panic and whatnot after 3-5 days can derive from a different issue. on day 2 i went to the ER and had my heart, blood and urin tested. came back perfect. anyways for now benadryl seems to ease anxiety for me. the ER doc recommended it to me so that's what ive been doing so I can function. during the day. this really kicked my arse. but life goes on...so on it shall go.... thanks for the support you tend to explain things very well and making me understand whats happining to me takes a load off my shoulders.
