- How hot was it? INSANE! That and so much more on this long delayed edit of the return road trip of my new 2022 Ducati Panigale V4 from Austin, TX to Los Angeles, CA after race weekend in April.
As a European, I really appreciate all the distance and temperature conversions you made. Very cool road trip, cant wait for the next one

As much suffering as you had to endure I think this is a great vid for those who think they know what they want in the world of bikes. To preface my comments I am a Ducati fan, I own a Pikes Peak and a Desert X. I am not as brave as you and I am old so my neck can't take a sport bike. That being said, the closest I can do is a naked. I tried every hyper naked out there and I loved the Street Fighter V4S but man......the heat is just unacceptable and I know the Panigale is even worse. Ducati needs to figure it out because others have so there is no excuse. I ended up buying the Super Duke Evo. It does not have the offensive heat, it actually has a gas gauge, back lit controls, cruise control etc. Why the SF or the Pngl do not have these features on $30k bikes is ridiculous. I lived in TX and I know the heat well, TX is the most miserably hot state in the country...AZ does not even compare because it is dry. Congrats to you for having the balls to make such a trip, I did similar when I was young and it ain't easy. I just did an 1100 mile ride on my Harley SG and it was as easy as a car....this is why there are bikes for different occasions. I am gonna do a 5 hour ride to the Tail of the Dragon on my Super Duke but that is nothing compared to your trip. Great pair of vids!

Yeah, I don’t advise people do what I did if you take lots of longer trips. I can tough it out once or twice a year but any more than that and I’d be looking at another bike. 🤣
I just stumbled on this video (and the first) HIGHLY enjoyable. My Diavel V4 does have a gas gauge. They're capable, which I'm sure you know. 👍👍

Again...Major props to you my friend. While I've logged over 300k miles in my riding career, none of it was on a sport bike. I basically only ride my Panigale V2 on the track. You are hard-core. Living in Phoenix, and putting the Duc on a trailer to go to watch MotoGP at COTA. I've softened in my old age. ;) Props again.

Hey, that was a super long road trip! Glad you made it safe and sound. It is quite normal to get that heat out from the engine and roast the back of your leg. I would recommend using Dainese leather pants (Delta or Alpha, both are cool) and high-ankle riding boots (Torque 3). It would definitely eliminate the burns! I had the same issue with my F3, but it's gone now since I use those proper gears for a long distance trip. Cheers and merry Christmas !
Yes, the next time I take a long trip in hot weather on the Panigale, I'll wear leather pants or an Under Armor cool layer. Luckily I've added the Ducati Spacers heat shield kit and that has helped the heat a lot. Hope you had a Merry Christmas too and have a Happy New Year!

This is hilarious! I am so glad you finally provided an update. Part 1 was great, but it was so long ago. I did wonder how you got it back. I understood the rush to drive out to 2022 MotoGP. Kind of surprised you decided to drive it all the way back to Cali after that. Well, at the very least your video is entertaining. And, although that kind of drive is not what that bike is for. Congrats, it is still an amazing bike. I live in Texas and I am buying a V4. I am not cruising it across Texas. Thanks for the fun vid!
Yeah, work got crazy so I was slow finishing the Part 2 edit but I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I like road trips and sport bikes so I had no doubts about riding it back to CA. Already looking forward to my next trip later this year - somewhere cooler than TX though! Ha! You will love your V4 but my advice is have them install the Ducati Spacers heat shield kit at your 600 mile service. I installed it when I got back to CA and it made the bike noticeably cooler. Have fun!
I had the panigale 959 and corsa. Rode them for over 20,000 miles in two years. Tried the 1299, but it was ridiculously hot. I went out once when it was 100. It felt like I was riding on top of a furnace in shorts. After twenty miles, I turned around a came home. I always rode in leathers. I don’t care about the excuse that it’s primarily a race bike. Most other manufacturers of similar bikes have figured it out. It’s not that difficult to improve the heat shielding and ventilation.
I now own a s1000rr. You can easily ride 400 mile + days. There’s no problem with engine heat.
It is really crazy the amount of heat coming off the Ducati superbikes. I love my V4 but that’s one reason I usually recommend people get a S1000. I think it’s a better, more comfortable day-to-day sportbike. Enjoy your ride! 😎

Hey buddy I watched your first video also and I must say you are a real motorcycle enthusiast. I really don’t know how you did it with those blisters on your legs but I know you really didn’t have a choice great idea with your shirts in your pant legs those blisters had to of hurt like hell and after they blister it hurts even more from the heat I still don’t know how you were able to keep riding but you are a strong minded person obviously. Great video’s really enjoyed watching both of them you impressed me riding so many miles a day on your bike that’s pretty amazing. Thanks for sharing your trip looking forward to the next one. Both videos were really great to watch. I will leave you saying you are a true trooper glad you made it home safe to ride another day. God bless buddy.

Living in the UK, I've not ridden in 90 degree temperatures before, until this year. I couldn't agree more about the huge difference between riding in mid 70 temps and 90 odd, even cruising along at higher speed barely cooled me down. The Ducati's engine makes up most of the 'frame' compared with most bikes, you must've felt like a boil in the bag meal !
Yeah the heat coming off that bike was bananas! Luckily I’ve since put on the heat shield kit and that made a noticeable difference in how hot the bike feels. Criminal that Ducati doesn’t include the heat shield kit installed from the factory.
All that wind, and always tons of stopped wind mills.

My 1299S is also brutal in the summer. I once had burns on the inside of my legs near my knees through my jeans.
I installed the Ducati Spacers heat shield kit after I got back from Texas and it made a noticeable improvement to the heat. I'd definitely recommend it.
Amazing video! Maybe I missed it, but did you have any luggage or wear a backpack? I just did an 1,100 mile road trip on my street triple and I learned a few lessons too. Honestly, I didn’t realize how close I was to heat exhaustion until I stopped and bought a cold drink with ice. A man told me, “Hot day for a ride.” It kind of pissed me off and I kept riding.

I travelled with a backpack because I don’t like that feeling of extra weight hanging off the bike. And that forces you to pack light. Subscribed to your channel..I am from Delhi, India..here the temperatures in summer months reach till 47 Degree Celsius which is about 116 Degree Fahrenheit..Now I can imagine, what a V4 owner goes through here LOL..

Yeah the heat on those bikes are absolutely ridiculous, I don’t care how cool they are the heat should not be uncomfortable like this, i tried one in winter and it was hell under me i can only imagine how would it feel in summer.
💯 The heat from the V4’s is brutal. It’d be easy for Ducati to add heat shielding at the factory but I guess they like torturing their customers. 🤣
I might have picked up one of the quilted, reflective, windshield covers at Walmart, folded it in half and sat on it. Lol

I was about to recommend Ducati Spacers’ heat insulation kit for the Panigale V4S and you mentioned that you purchased it at the end of the video. It’ll make a noticable difference to which I can testify as I have the kit on my ‘21 Panigale V4S. I also ordered the throttle spacer kit which I’m very happy with so perhaps you might want to look into that as well…
Yeah, I installed the heat shield kit and it made a big improvement to the heat. Was on the fence about the throttle spacer but I'm gonna go ahead and get it because that throttle dead zone is so annoying. It's hard to get used to.

Lol i had a V2 and i can confirm that the heat coming off those Panigales is very real. a heat shield kit and full titanium exhaust reduced the heat dramitically. But, i can only imagine long distance on a V4. i rode one for a short ride and could feel the heat instantly.

Standard V4 all the way. You can spend that extra $ on mods you want to make it more personal. I talked to a couple of V4s owners and they said what you’re getting with the electronic suspension of a V4s is basically a gimmick. I’m planning a V4 vs V4s video soon so stay tuned. 😎

Compression pants make a big difference with the heat.
For sure. Someone suggested that and I tried it out and it really helps with the heat. I mention it in the next video I’m uploading about my ride to Laguna Seca.
Cool vids. Stumbled across your channel. Last road trip I did was texas to sturgis and back with some buddies on my rocket 3. Before that was Texas to Florida and back on my old m109r. I currently have a 2017 hayabusa along with the rocket. Been thinking of doing a long trip on the hayabusa but we’ll see. Glad you made it to and from safely on both trips. Yea you rode back home on the wrong time of the year lol. Luckily it didn’t get into the hundreds like it normally does in the summer lol.
Road trip on a Hayabusa sounds like a great idea. Smooth and fast! Yeah, I thought returning from TX in the beginning of May wouldn't be too bad. Ouch - lesson learned. I have no idea how my Texas friends handle riding a hot bike like a Ducati from June-Sept. That has got to be a rough ride!
@@amv_moto lol yea. I know super sports run hot naturally but damn that Ducati runs that hot? My old cbr1000rr fan wouldn’t kick on until 220. I always thought that was very hot but apparently that’s how they are from stock. Same with my old r1 and a couple 600s I had. What temp does the fans on the Ducati come on?
Good effort on that trip quite a distance espically 'on a sport bike im from the UK you can do the whole country top to bottom in roughly 755 miles (1215 km )

The oil change interval for V4’s is 7500 miles (12000 km) so all I did was check my oil level occasionally to make sure I didn’t need to add any - I didn’t. Have a good trip with your HP4 - that sounds awesome! 😎

I have a V4R with the titanium Akra exhaust and while I haven't been burned, it definitely gets hot!!!
Yeah titanium is supposed to better at heat dissipation than stainless steel so that was definitely a good move on your part. 👍

Just an FYI, my 2021 manual states min octane of 90.
Yeah, my mechanic said 87 was fine and I trust them since they see so many bikes but I advise others to follow the manual.

Glad you enjoyed the video! I didn't consider a ZX10r because I honestly think Kawasaki (like Suzuki) are not really invested in improving their sportbikes like Ducati, BMW, Yamaha & Honda are. For example, they're pulling out of WSBK next year - like Suzuki pulled out a few yews ago. Since that is the platform manufacturers use to improve their superbikes, this tells me they plan to put less & less resources into those bikes in the future. Ultimately, I wanted a cutting-edge superbike and I just think they're a few steps behind Ducati & BMW.

It was! Never ridden a bike before that ran so hot it burned my legs! 🔥I installed the heat shield kit after the trip and now it’s noticeably better. Still hot but not burning hot.

It might help. I’ve also heard that upgrading to titanium headers reduces the heat too. Luckily the heat shield kit helped quite a bit. No more melted legs. 🔥 🔥 🔥

Merry Christmas Ander L! Yes, I had the GoPro plugged into a small power bank that I kept in my jacket inside pocket. That power bank + the GoPro battery allowed me to run it for 12+ hours without worrying about charging.

Thanks for the video! So you mean to tell me that with all that "technology," there is still no gas gauge on that slick TFT screen? What, does VAG think it'll add 40 lbs to the curb weight? Also, I like what you did with the winglets. They are an eyesore that ruin the pristine lines of the original 2018 V4, although the heat issues were way worse on that model year if you can imagine. Winglets need to go the way of the Hyabusa and ZX-14. They too will be replaced by advanced rider aids if they can't be done tastefully like on the MV Rush, Brutale 1000, F3 RR, and Honda CBR 1000 RRR-RR Firreblade SPR. Are you going to paint match them or keep the moustache? Love the content!
Glad you enjoy the videos. I know right?! 2022 and we can't get a gas gauge on a V4?! I guess Ducati expect people to buy a Multistrada if they want a gas gauge. Yes, my winglets lasted less than 24 hours after I picked up the bike. Hate 'em. I'm planning to get the bike resprayed in the spring - not a huge "bright red" person. The paint shop said they could fill in those spots before they paint it so you'll never know they were even there. Stay tuned!

Glad you enjoyed the video. 👍 I parked it outside my hotel room every night. I had a couple of locks on it, kept it covered and hid an AirTag on it for some piece of mind. I talk about it in my “What I Packed” video if you’re curious.

I have some questions for you :-
Ducati Panigale v4 have not electronic suspension also their suspension stiffer. So you have not any issues related of comfort..?
Yau have a Panigale v4 ,, a race track bike.. so why you have not ride as a racer.. like fast and little bit aggressive..?
You get the bike full tuned ? Like akrapovic full system exhaust, f1 air filter, 525 chain sprocket sets, E.C.U. flash etc..

No issues for comfort with the manual suspension. The electronic suspension of a V4s makes it easier to go from stiff to soft but you can accomplish the same thing just with wrenches on a manual suspension. The V4s riders I've talked to have said electronic suspension is a gimmick. There are lots of channels out there with aggressive riders. Have you checked out 650ib, FastlaneD, Max Wrist, Superbike Racer, ImKay...? There is no lack of YT riders out there who don't care about their license or their life. I'm planning to do several mods to the bike, mostly cosmetic and handling so stay tuned for the mod series if you're interested. Cheers.

Yeah, those winglets were gone less than 24 hours after I picked up the bike. Hate 'em. Ha! That'll be the first mod I talk about in my upcoming mod series so stay tuned!

Bro would you still recommend the V4S over S1K RR M?
I don’t regret my choice of V4 over S1K. I wanted a MotoGP inspired sportbike with brutal power that feels like it will kill you if you don’t pay attention. But since I don’t think most riders are into that experience I usually recommend a S1K because it’s a better overall bike IMO. I think if you can only have 1 bike it’s a better choice. It has things most riders will want - cruise control, a fuel gauge, heated grips, on dash navigation - and it doesn’t feel like it’s going to burst into flames. 🤣 I talked to a bunch of V4S owners and decided the “S” wasn’t worth the $6400 difference in price to me. I’d be paying for a bunch of stuff I didn’t want - except for the lithium battery. $6400 would get you all carbon fiber bodywork with $ left over. Or Akropovic or Termignoni or carbon fiber wheels or a custom paint job and your bike would be way more unique than that every other “S” out there.

No, parked it outside locked up, under a cover and with an AirTag. For sure, I tell people if you have to have a superbike and you want to do lots of road trips, get an S1000. Way better choice. 😎

True. Any modern sport bike would have struggled in that heat. I'll be able to tell if an S1000 would do better if someone gives me one to try that trip again. BMW are you listening?

Are you running factory tire Diablo SuperCorsa Sp and how did they hold up? A lot of people told me they not gonna last for long time to buy set for normal riding and keep them for track .

Yes, I have the original Supercorsa SPs and incredibly they still have a ton of life on them even after the heat and many stretches of >100mph (>160kph). I seriously think I'll be able to get >7k miles (>11k km) before I have to change them. I installed the heat shields after I got back and it made a big difference.
Do you think doing this trip on a Streetfighter V4 would have made a significant difference? I am looking at V4 / Streetfighter V4 and want to occasionally take longer rides as you also enjoy.
I think the Streetfighter would be better with the heat since it’s open. I’d still advise getting the heat shield kit though! Where you’ll struggle during a road trip is with the wind - since it doesn’t come with a windscreen. I think that’d be pretty exhausting fighting the wind at high speeds. The windscreen on a Panigale is not that big but it was pretty effective. I’d add an aftermarket windscreen just for road trips if I got a Streetfighter. That would help.
How many fuel stops and fuel range you got once it was in reserve plus in total
Not sure of exactly how many fuel stops I made but probably around a dozen total. The low fuel light of the V4 would generally go on between mile 105-115. I've never run it out of gas but from the time the low fuel light came on I'd estimate I could go another 25-30 miles.

Ha! True - a S1000 has a bunch of options I wish the Panigale had. Definitely a better all around bike but I have no serious regrets so far about getting the Ducati.

How did the Tires after so many long straight distance?
The Supercorsa SP's still surprisingly have a lot of life left on them even after the heat and many stretches of 100+mph riding. They were a little squared off by the time I got back to CA. But after about 500 miles of regular riding after I got home, that square edge was gone. I think I'll be able to get about 7k miles out of them before I have to change them.

Yeah Austin gets HOT - get the Ducati Spacers heat shield kit. I put it on after I got back from TX and it made a noticeable difference in the heat.

Woah, you use 87 octane for that bike? 😮
Yes, I asked a mechanic when I brought the bike in for the 600 mile service and they said they tell people to just run 87. They see hundreds of these bikes a year and they see no maintenance or service issues from bikes running 87 vs a higher octane. They said only if they bike's engine starting knocking would you want to go up in octane, but my bike runs just fine. I figure they know better than me so I'm not gonna lose sleep over it.
But I advise others to follow the manual.

@@amv_moto Those mechanics do not know better than the designers and engineers though. Consult the owner's manual. I believe the Ducati ECU is similar to my BMW S1K, where they detect knock and detune the bike to allow safe engine operation with the lower octane fuel. Just because it's running, doesn't mean it's running like it should be.

Texas weather sucks I have a CBR 1000 fire blade and the heat makes my bike run Grumpy... Going 140 mph still is 🥵 can't stand Texas.

No cruise control got me on a road trip. Also mine never burned me at all.. but not having cruise control was terrible. Also not seeing how many miles to empty is not good for a bike that cost so much.
Cruise control really would be nice but no gas gauge is a real head scratcher.
You did a pretty good job controlling yourself from ripping that v4 at least once.
Ha! I did many stints >100mph but I left those out of the edit because RUclips doesn’t like high speed videos. Those get flagged and demonetized. 👎
