This painting is good! I‘m lucky to have purchased these ( 48 set ), oil pastels. I will look & see if you‘ve any beginner tutorials as I like the pastels but, as a newbie not sure I‘m using them very correctly. Thanks
This is my favorite review.. you have all the set. That was a wonderful painting❤ I really like the 120 set. May I know what paper would you recommend for beginner. Thank you so much😊
Thank you! I have a video on choice of paper type but will be sharing my own favourite when I reach 100 Subscribers......I hope I have managed to get your subscription!
I know this is an older video now but at the start you say not to confuse with the blue box pastels. I have been looking at some of this brand on Amazon that just says Mungyo Gallery soft oil pastels, are these likely to be the blue box you mention and are they no good? Many thanks for these videos 🙏
@ thank you. I have just ordered the 48 set of artists ones in the same boxes as you had in the reviews. Hope these will give me a better start point for my oil pastel learning. Thanks again.
Just finished swatching the 48 set Mungyo artists pastels and, although I know nothing about the medium yet, these feel so much more premium than the cheep ones I bought. Even just blending the swatches was such a better experience. Just wish I had found and watched your videos before 🙄. Looking forward to trying them out for a picture, onwards and upwards. Many thanks 🙏
@@Graham_Thompson they will see you good for now and are a good start. I am glad I could help in some small way! If you ever see my cat in the Christmas Tree that was done with those Pastels.
I will have to look into that .I had the chance to buy them but they are not readily available in the UK.However i thought better of it but may do so now you have said what you have said x
Hi Cali, is there a manufacturers contact info on the box by any chance? I cannot get them in UK and only seen them on Amazon US. If you could give me the info I would be very grateful regards John
Thanks for doing this review (on my behalf!) Your experience with these is very similar to my own. I upgraded from the 72 set to the 120 set sometime ago and have been happy using them for everyday/sketchbook work when I want to save my more premium brands for fine art. I have notes in my set from former research on-line (don't remember the source but was probably WetCanvas) that, regarding lightfastness, Lt. Mauve (#255) is quite fugitive and will totally fade out to blue in short order in sunlight. The following only exhibit mild changes: 239,240,249,242,203,204,205,206,207. Since I found this old note to myself in my 72 set, I presume that there may be more suspect colors in the 120 set (definitely the fluorescents, as you say). But 10 "bad" colors out of the 72 set isn't horrible, especially since the fading is only "mild" for 9 of those. Better than the record for most colored pencils, that's for sure! (Not counting Derwent's LF or Caran Dache Luminance line here!) Anyway, thanks again for your review..now I have to go find those new "Morandi" colors you mentioned as having recently come out; my "Full Set Syndrome symptoms are kicking in big time!!! Lol

@@marywelter6229 Thanks Mary! Right, in all honesty this is just my opinion. The Mungyo and thier likes do not get lightfastness done because they can then afford to sell cheaper. If the likes of Artecho brand their oil pastels as lightfast and are immensely cheaper then I would say the Mungyo are just the same but keep the price down by not doing tests etc..but are still a lot more expensive than the likes of artecho. I would personally not give it any worry in selling my artworks done with Mungyo as I am pretty sure that most oil pastels of any worth are all ok and it is only those in the very lower end which are not......I would gladly sell pics done with Mungyo and not give it a second thought.....to be honest , if anyone is silly enough to put their original paintings directly near a window or such then that is stupid anyway! have had mungyo originals for several years with no problems in any way.
Thank you for your reviews and gorgeous artwork! How do these Mungyo pastels compare to Artecho? I have the 48 set of Artecho, they’re my first oil pastels, and I’m considering a larger set. Would you choose Artecho or Mungyo?
Thats a hard call but as they are exceedingly good and a bit cheaper it would be the Artecho by a very small margin. I hope you have subscribed as there will be more brands I will guide or review on!
I think they would all be prone to breakage Theresa but you can buy pastel holders which might help and can be quite cheap! You put the pastel in the holder and then use it up as you go!
