    Wow, this is what we will be going thru as well. We will be moving to Ecuador next year and we have already started to sell some of our stuff but we know we have so much stuff to sell, donate and give away. My goodness can't believe how much litter there is in Philly.

      Yes, the process of downsizing can be overwhelming. It makes you realize how much unnecessary stuff we accumulate over the years. One thing, for sure, you'll feel so much lighter when the process is done.
      Goodluck on your preparation. Wishing you all the best and a smooth transition here.

      @TheXplorasDiary  Год назад +1

      Hola Kathryn!! Yes, I feel very safe here. I haven’t had any issues walking around at night or had any moments where I’ve generally felt unsafe. Although from time to time, there are stories of robberies/petty theft… it’s a pretty small community, and the community rallies up to get the police involved when such things happen.

    Happy to see you guys making that leap of faith. How have you been treated by the locals and the other expats? Is the price of real estate actually as costly as it is shown to be online? Best of luck on your venture. I am slowly checking the boxes and may make a similar move as a solo retiree.

    • @TheXplorasDiary
      @TheXplorasDiary  Год назад

      Hey Kev, thanks for watching and commenting. We haven't had any particular issues with the locals or other expats. The locals here are nice people, from my perspective, they mostly keep to themselves. From my observation, the people on the coast are more outgoing, while the people in the mountains are somewhat reserved/to themselves. Other expats here have also been friendly. No issues whatsoever with the people so far. As for the price of real estate, it seems to be rising, especially, in areas with a growing population of expats.

      @@TheXplorasDiary did you pack the juicer? how many suitcases did you bring? Airlines ? I'm in final of my EC visa. selling furniture, giving away. throwing away. its tough !!! ??Where to land in EC -->big question ?? Great video. Any thoughts appreciated.

    • @TheXplorasDiary
      @TheXplorasDiary  Год назад +1

      @@BPe-ie9je I sure did pack the juicer in my hand luggage. I took it out of the box tho and put it in. Honestly, it's not hard to find a juicer here so maybe you don't need to if you don't have the capacity to. Fresh Juice is quite common here in Ecuador. Juicers and Blenders are not hard to find.
      We brought a total of 5 suitcases, excluding our hand luggages and backpacks. You'll have to cross check with the airline of your choosing because i recall at certain times in the year(depending on the airline), there's an embargo on how many suitcases you can fly with. But some airlines allow you to bring as many bags as you want, as long as you pay for them. We flew in with Jet blue the first time.
      When it comes to where you can land, there are two major airports one in Quito and the other in Guayaquil, it'll depend on your airline and where you final destination is.
      I hope this was helpful and thanks for watching and commenting. We appreciate you. And also, all the best to you as you prepare to make your big move.

    How harsh are they about smoking pot?

    • @TheXplorasDiary
      @TheXplorasDiary  Год назад

      I think pot is decriminalized for medicinal use but not legal. I don't anticipate it would be a problem is you are discrete with it and use it personally in your home. However, I don't think smoking it in public is acceptable here though. That might land you in some trouble.

    • @TheXplorasDiary
      @TheXplorasDiary  Год назад

      Hahahaha It's always interesting to observe how different cultures live. Tbh, I can't say the culture shock was too much for us though, just the language barrier.
      The move from the US to Ecuador was far from gradual. It was very abrupt! Made a game time decision to leave the US once the pandemic hit.
