Just for achieving the right pink balance between skin + clothes + hair, the stylist explained she had to dye all the wigs used in the movie with odd undertones so the hair wouldn’t wash out all the pink in the film
This video perfectly shows how color grading transfers perfectly into meaning and emotion within a movie

Besides of the movie industry, Mirror's Edge, a video game really does great job of color grading with mostly white and red color patterns in buildings.

One of the most unnoticed thing new people getting into color grading don't understand is the set design is everything that sets you up for a great color grade. Most the colors are placed into the set which they're setting up the movie for. Even though you can manipulate colors in davinci greatly, doing so without a great set in the first place will most the time end up looking artificial.

After color correcting/grading for a little while now, I can definitely see when having the LOG/RAW footage makes a HUGE difference when doing things like this.

not only does breaking bad has its orange filter to mark new mexico or the mexico territory (even though their air pollution ISNT orange) it can also give the vibe of sickness, erie vibes and a deep setting of struggle. examples with items like these are prescription medications, dark foggy dust storms, hazmat suits (for some) and maybe a dark room with a dim lamp light.

Drive with Barbie's colors is hilarious, Drive IMHO is one of the most deeply psychological movie ever made. If you want to understand American cinema watch Drive first. It has the core feelings of Pulp Fiction, Taxi Driver an Godfather in it. Probably the most underrated movie made in the past 15 years!!!

Thank you! It can work on mobile too, if you have an app that supports the use of CUBE LUTs, like LumaFusion for example.

Just overlaying the hues over the blacks won’t give a very good result.
Balck and white colors are both hard to colorize.
They should have used curves and adjusted it more.
They should also remove is on blacks or on whites.
Its hard to explain but i know these editors didn’t do their best. They just got lazy to do it properly 🤦♂️

It's mainly the edges that throw me off here, a cleaner cut around elements would probably be less noticable.
