I’ve been fulfilling a life long dream of doing stained glass, for the last month. Your videos have really helped and encouraged me. Thank you so much!!
First time I've ever seen stained glass pinwheels. That's a great project and simple for a beginner like me. I'll have to make my wife a couple since she likes pinwheels and usually puts some of the plastic ones out in the flower garden.
I followed along with this and made something I’m reasonably proud of! It was my first time doing any of this. You’re a wonderful teacher and thank you for the video.
Thanks, this has inspired me after my holiday present-making race burnout! I've been making little birds, and those tiny beaks gave me a time. This looks like something I'll enjoy.
Thanks for the inspiration! Found your chanel, I'm in process of buying everything. My wife just found me stained class classes an hour away. I'm disabled, you never know when something you post might help someone get a new lease on life. Thanks!
Question: Could a small dowel or something be put in the middle to leave an opening so it could be attached to something, and made into a spinning pinwheel for outside?
Yes you could leave the center open to insert something like a brass ring of some sort. I wonder if the glass would be too heavy for it to spin though 🤔
I found a post it note is 3” square, I fold in in 1/2 and cut my larger triangles and once done, fold it in 1/2 again for the smaller triangles. Works perfectly since I didn’t have a ruler or square handy.
Thank you - what a beautiful project. Question: I purchased a Bloomark pencil cutter. The cutting head swivels and the whole head seems to have a bouncing type movement when pressure is applied and released. Is that normal? Cuts great if I can keep it from moving around or bouncing up and down during the cut. Thank you.
That's normal for those types of cutters. The swivel is supposed to help you out with keeping track of the score direction and the spring gives a nice response. Takes a while to get used to holding constant pressure so it doesn't bounce up and down. Maybe try applying more pressure throughout? Hope that helps and good luck with the cutter!
Here is something that think you mite want to try, like a lot of people I don't have a printer and some of the things that you make are a little hard to draw out. If you can make pattern kits I know there are a lot of people like myself that would buy them . I know that there are a lot that I would buy like the tepee and camp fire , bee hive and the terrarium.
Thanks for bringing this up Nancy! I use carnauba wax and any brand is okay. I file the glass when the edges are sharp and would prevent the foil from sticking to the flat surface. But you don't need to file or grind all the pieces.
hi just finished this as my second project last night, and this morning i noticed i had made a mistake, , am watching all your videos looking for easy things to do, pity you dont put your designs on the videos as well, so people can copy them, I am rubbish at sketching so could do with all the help i can get,
@@lynphilion1501 it will be too low to burn the solder steadily I think. Cheapest iron is about $17 for a hakko 503 currently. Those will work just fine.
Hey so I was wondering if you or anyone you know would be willing/interested in designing a stain glass pattern for me to use to make a project depicting the characters in my book? I am going to try and see if I can just clip some images etc and make a collage or something today/tomorrow but if someone was able to actually just make a design that would be so much easier - I decided after scalemail my next art adventure would be working with stained glass but I could use some help coming up with a design

That's wonderful you did it!!! Keep this first piece to compare with the rest of your future work and you'll see some amazing changes. Keep going! 📈
How wonderful to see the young learning this old wonderful trade. Excellent and thank you for sharing.
Take care and stay safe 🌞
YES it totally made my day! They all did a great job!

Thank you for the comment Sean! Have a lot of fun with it! 🤙
6:07 my husband helped me with size. Ty for idea. Great use for my extra small glass Wish I could send you photo.

Gorgeous
This is very helpful, thank you so much for sharing your talent.
Using a magic eraser before patina helps prepare the solder even better than the kwik clean :)
You are amazing you make your projects easy to understand Thank you!
I'm happy you liked it! 🙏

Ingenuous 🙏🤯
unsure if this will be seen but a suggestion for keeping the glass cool would be a damp cloth under the project. it works great for long work times.
That's a great tip, thank you for sharing!✌️

Thanks Willard, I've been thinking about doing something like a book of patterns. Maybe it's time...
AgreeI need pattern. Thinking I was doing what he was doing. Believe me it didn’t work ! Pattern would be greatly appreciated
Amazing work,... Love from Indonesia 🤩😍🤩
Thank you so much 😀
Do you Hang ok place Rod on back. If Rod what do you use ?
early on, the paper you drew your triangles on, is it plain printer paper, or is it thicker?
Plain paper is fine but thicker will tracer easier
What kind of wax do you use? In this video you did not mention grinding. Do you grind all your pieces? I Enjoy your videos.

Would this as a spinner if using a spinner hook
What temperature do you keep your iron at?
My usual setting is at 360c 680f. Thanks for bringing this up!

Where do you get your stained glasses? Would you share the informations?
Most of my glass came from my Craigslist purchase with the cabinet. My recent packs I bought from Franciscan Glass, my vendor.
Is the walnut grove Woodburner alright to use for the soldering
Might be under powered. What's the wattage rating?
@@StainedGlassDIY sorry walnut hollow. It's 25 watt

Whats the most basic necessary steps for beginners? Is the patina necessary ect? I want to start out without a huge upfront cost and build up?
Patina is not necessary. You can leave it silver. Check out more info, instructions, guide at www stainedglassdiy.com
where do you get your glass?
I got a lot from a craigslist find. But also buy locally and from my wholesale supplier. We also sell glass packs on www.stainedglassdiy.com
