I definitely appreciate the fact that you come across as real… No BS. A lot of the videos I have come across seem to go flawless… As though perfection is in their blood. Those videos were intimidating, but then yours came up… I appreciate the fact that you show problems that arise, glass that doesn’t break properly, etc. When these other people cut their videos to only show perfection, I think it could deter beginners, like myself. You probably don’t even realize it, but just being yourself is a big reason you’re blowing up. Please continue to do your videos in the same fashion you have been doing them. I believe that is the main attraction, more people should mimic your form. Here’s to continued success!
I agree. When I start seeing the imperfection when I started certain projects, I just want to quit because the creators made it look so easy by editing out their "hiccups."
Little tip. If you have trouble with the solder running through the seams try to use tape (e.g. painters tape) on the other side. It makes it so much easier to build up the solder. You can also use the tape to hold your pieces in the right position when tacking them 😊
this would also look great in bright red or green, even as a solid "crystal" shape hanging up in the window...sunlight + colored 3 D stained glass = super bad ass artwork.
I wish I could post pics, made some of these cute little guys today! First time, my pattern was a bit off but I adjusted the pieces a bit and the second turned out amazing! Thanks for the great tutorial, it truly inspired me and now I have some cute pieces to hang in the window! Gonna try to make a bit bigger of one and see how it holds up with a succulent in it 😄
Just wanna say a quick thank you ☺️ My mum has been a stained glass artist for decades and as was her father in Germany during WWII. I never had an interest in their craft - too busy being a crazy teenager. I say thank you because your videos helped me to realise that stained glass and leadlighting is in my blood, and I have found a way to honour my heritage and realise the art of glass in its modern potential. I first watched your stained glass feathers tutorial and realised that glass doesn't always have to be art deco motifs in a door 😂 and now I am living a life I always wanted and using my art to pay da billz. Keep up the amazing work in your videos; I hope your wonderful friendly nature will bring more people to stained glass in the future ☺️ ❤️
I dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know a method to get back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot my account password. I would love any help you can offer me!
That is so beautiful! I have wanted to learn to do stained-glass for years, someone gifted me with a box of glass, 6 rolls of copper tape and a couple cutters. I used to tattoo and made my own needles, so I already have the soldering iron, solder and flux, now I'm just waiting for the other tools. I'm so excited! I've been binge watching your videos!
First..Jeanne and I want to compliment you on the great photography on your video..We think we'll probably try one. We use both CJ's and Kwik Clean to get great patina results also. Good job on the project!
You know you guys turned me on to CJ's and Kwik Clean! So thanks! I feel like these two things are all you need to clean and am always getting great patina results now. Have you tried just CJ's and then patina? How were the results? And thank you for the compliment and can't wait to see your terrarium! ✌️
@@StainedGlassDIY We have tried just CJ's and it worked pretty well, we've just found using both worked the best. Another thing that works is using "JAX" brand patina. They are harder to come by because they are so caustic that they can't be shipped via UPS, but they give a deeper black and their copper is pretty outstanding!
Yo.... I can't believe it... I bought two picture frames but didn't need the glass in them. I kept the glass because I didn't want to throw it away, and then I remembered, well, I haven't done any glass work in 16 years but I wonder if I can make anything out of picture frame glass? Rather serendipitously I found this video!! Thank you!!
Great video, I used to do stained glass a couple of years ago and want to get back into it, so was a great refresh for me! Good to see on You tube, I’ll be watching the others! 👍🏻 (love the scenery/music on some of your others too! 👌🏻😁)
So good, as usual! Love the clean design and that I don't have to mess up my glass watering the air plant! But please let me mail you some leather gloves🤣 Are your measurements 2.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 and 4.5 x 4.5 x 2.5 ??? I finally bought a fid. I have been using my sharpie for months!
Cool, seems like you didn't have a whole lot of issues doing 3D. My first attempt was decent, but not good enough that I felt comfortable putting it on youtube. I've got some questions and suggestions. Do you know if the lead in the solder will affect the plants in anyway? Another thing you could do since setting glass up can be tricky, is use masking or painters tape to hold it in place while you tack it. As for soldering try using some kind of stand so whatever part you are soldering is horizontal. Otherwise you'll be chasing the solder all over the place. I know that soldering on the inside gets a little tricky to keep horizontal, but that might help you in the future. I also think you want a beaded edge on both the inside and outside solder lines. A beaded edge helps with adding overall strength, especially if you are going to add extra weight to the glass. I've never done a terrarium before, so I don't know if what I'm suggesting is doable or correct. But I just thought I'd add my two cents in. Still came out looking great though, and the fact that it holds water is definitely a good thing!
Using tape is the perfect trick to hold up the pieces but I didn't think of it in until after! So yes I think you're right! I find it takes me longer to set up a jig to hold my glass up for soldering so I just go freehand and it's been working okay so far. I don't know if the solder does anything to the plants but we'll see! I do try to make a bead along the lines and depending on the look I more or less just go with what I think looks good. Plus this terrarium is still quite small so it shouldn't be a problem. Try one out and let me know how it goes!
It’s easier to solder if you tin all the pieces first and then solder it together. That way if there’s gaps, the solder won’t drip through. Also, dripping solder on that glass, even thin, shouldn’t make it crack unless you’re using very low quality glass.
This may sound like a dumb question lol but where do you get the glass from? I love the iridescent colored glass and great videos btw. Your work is beautiful 😍
Thank you! Going to a local shop would be your best bet to see the glass for yourself. It's worth it since you can't tell much from purchasing online. And try not to drop so much cash on your first visit!
Hi, can I just compliment you on your channel. You have really inspired me to get started in stained glass. Your makes are fantastic and I love the fact you show when things also dont go so well and your perseverance. I have a question. I have 40 pains of glass from my greenhouse, some broken can I use this glass for this make? Or do I need a certain thickness? Many thanks xx stay safe both you and your lovely family xx
Thank you! I'm glad you started. You can use whatever thickness but you'll have to adjust your copper foil to match. Also it would be good to use the same glass thickness for your project so the height of each piece connects well together. Typically, the glass you'll find are 1/8" and I use 7/32" copper foil. Hope that helps!
Try using the same pressure and keep it continuous from end to end. Your score line should look like a hairline, clean and straight. It should sound like a zipper as you score. It just takes practice but start with light pressure and see how it looks and sounds. Hope that helps!
hello, I am upcycling a used fish tank and turning it into a terrarium. I want the top of the tank to have a simple tall narrow A-Frame. Is there an easier way to bond the 4 pieces of triangular glass to complete my terrarium top? I feel that soldering is a whole separate skill to further complicate this build, was thinking of using GOrilla glue and silicone on top with U-Channel molding to fit in the wedges of the tank. I can explain further if needed.
Yea the soldering part is probably not what you're looking for to bond the glass. I think you got the right idea with the u channel and glue. Not sure what's best but I haven't tried that before. Good luck though!

No, not really but I move around quite a bit to not overheat a spot
Great work! This video helped me a lot. btw what was the wax you used last for?
Can you please tell me the thickness of the glass you are using?
It's from an old picture frame. About 2mm thick.
Do you need flux cleaner or can you use something else too...like dish soap?
Dish soap works fine but flux cleaner works a lot better if you can get some
I never see you use cutter oil? Do you keep it in the reservoir of your cutter?
Yes the oil lasts for quite a long time plus I switch cutters too
