No one in history has been able to describe the contribution humans have towards climate change. It's not denying climate change its saying that a large portion of climate change probably isn't due to humans. This is because scientists have seen trends of increases and decreases in temperature across history. Dinosaurs didnt burn fossil fuels but their world was much hotter. Funny that no one says how much exactly humans change the world's climate.

      @phyokyawkhaing2251 3 года назад +31

@@isaacharvison5323 Not really, we *consciously* started recording temperatures since 1850 but we can actually tell what temperature earth had to about 60 million years ago.
Now I'll admit, the further back in time we go, the more shaky the estimates become. This is because there are less data sets to work with. There aren't that many things that go back 800,000 years much less 60 million years so estimates from that time is pretty shaky. However, there are plenty of things that go back 600,000 years so estimates for that is pretty good. And then, starting from 400,000 years ago, we can say that we have almost ABSOLUTE certainty what the temperature was.
We measure temperature from back then by examining ice cores, tree rings, rock layers and many other methods but i'll stick to ice cores here. When ice is formed, you will get bubbles of gas trapped inside it, we then collect the gas inside and examine them. We know for a fact that changes in concentration of certain isotopes of elements such as carbon-13 and carbon-14 has a direct effect on temperature as a ratio. So we examine the gasses and inspect the concentration of carbon-13 and carbon-14. Then we crunch the numbers and there's your estimate.
This result is still shaky so scientists also compare the estimates from the ice cores with estimates from other methods such as sea bed cores and tree rings. We compile it all into one large graph with *a lot* of data sets and that's how we get the graphs.

I know this was a depressing video but as someone who studied Environmental Science, Energy and Toxicology I have to tell you, that climate change is only a small part of a very serious human problem. We are changing the chemistry of the planet on many levels, more than just atmospheric composition. It comes from everything, many things in which you can’t easily substitute, including energy but most products, even food and raw materials. Permanent chemical change of matter weighed in the billions of tons, dumped every year, into any place we can put out of mind, ocean or hole. With growth every year. If you change the chemistry of a system, the whole system equilibrates, but it’s not the same anymore.

False equivalency. Put your money where your mouth is, and try living completely without fossil fuels. This would mean, no travel, no food ( unless you grow your own), no modern goods filled with plastics. Wind power positively cannot be produced without coal, both in the steel production, and standby energy plants for times when wind is scarce ( which is 60-70% of the time). The icing on the cake is wind costs around 600 times the kW/h cost of coal, and in colder climates, the poor will simply freeze to death ( the poor already spend 32-40% of their budget on energy, not counting housing, clothing, and food). Nuclear _might_ be an option in a geologically stable region, but then you have the problem of radioactive waste and accidents, which seem to happen anywhere radiation is involved in industrial processes. C02 is not a demon gas, but perhaps this will have to be learned the hard way. If the power grid collapsed, 90% of most people would die within one year.

There is no consensus among scientists to say the world is warming because of CO2. There is only a media consensus. The logarithmic diminution of the radiative forcing of CO2 will ensure there will be no increase in atmospheric temperature due to its increased presence in the atmosphere. This fact is well understood in the climate science community and can be accurately modelled using the Modtran program maintained and supported at the University of Chicago.
The logarithmic diminution of the radiative forcing of CO2 is probably the reason why there was no runaway greenhouse warming from CO2 in earlier eons when CO2 levels were known to be at levels of several thousands ppmv (parts per million).
Remarkably, IPCC published reports (TAR3) do actually acknowledge that the effective temperature increase caused by growing concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere radically diminishes with those increasing concentrations. This information is in their report, Chapter 6. Radiative Forcing of Climate Change: section 6.3.4 Total Well-Mixed Greenhouse Gas Forcing Estimate.
From the present concentration of atmospheric CO2 at approaching 415 ppmv, only 5% of the effectiveness of CO2 as a Greenhouse Gas remains. This can only give rise to a maximum of a further of +0.21°C. Thereafter beyond 1000+ ppmv the effect of increasing levels of CO2 can only ever be absolutely minimal, even if CO2 concentrations were to increase indefinitely.
    That is the science.

Congratulations on not understanding what you read well enough to know that the ultimate answer to this mechanism is actually a lot worse. @@weatheranddarkness Yes, you are right, the part of the atmosphere that is saturated is the troposphere. That is the part where we live. Are you one of those people who are alarmed by the claim that CO2 levels are at there highest in 800,000 years? If so, don't worry, the claim is simply a marketing ploy to scare the kiddies. It is meaningless. In terms of geological time 800,000 years is nothing. If the earth were a year old, 800 thousand years would amount to a mere 92 minutes. Would you judge a city's annual climate by a sample period of just 92 minutes? The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has reduced by about 90% over the past 150 million years. Even though its level has increased fractionally during the Holocene epoch, CO2 is still at an average of only 415 parts per million. Far from being a matter for alarm, this recent increase is most fortunate. After all, in order to survive, plants require an absolute minimum or 150 ppm atmospheric CO2. Many plants species suffer stress at amounts well above that. Immediately prior to the Holocene the level of CO2 went down to 180 ppm. We would not like to see that occur again. Since the Cambrian explosion atmospheric CO2 has averaged 2,000 ppm and through most of the Mesozoic era was at 3,000 ppm. It has been 300 million years since CO2 levels have been as low as they are today. It must be noted that at no time in the past did high levels of CO2 result in runaway climate change. The CO2/water vapour positive feedback loop has never occurred and will never occur. CO2 enrichment in greenhouses allows crops to meet their photosynthesis potential. The supply of extra CO2 is an often-applied method to increase the yield of greenhouse crops. The current hysteria over rising levels of atmospheric CO2 has no basis in science.

Right now, we are living in an interglacial period in between ice agea. What the current climate change model is seeing is that we are experiencing higher avergare temperatures than compared to what was seen thousands of years ago. Even a rise by 2 degrees celsius makes a BIG difference. It is a fact that global warming is happening. Between scientists, they are debating the causality and magnitude of global warming. Ik the terms climate change and global warming scream cringe and political agendas because you here the terms all the time. But try to see that these are scientific terms and that politics had disrupted that severly. Right now a majority of the scientists (i think its around 90% are in agreement that its man made) the other ten percent have attributed to other things like sun cycles and etc. Both sides are scientific, so they both have evidence to backup what they are saying. I agree with the 90% as their data seems a little stronger to me. The solution to man made climate change is by increasing funding in energy technology compaines that are striving to bring other methods of energy production into the main stream. Following on from what earthly athena commented, you could also help violently overthrow our corporate overlords and help implement a leftist socio-economic system that places people before profit.
What you're experiencing is something Mark Fisher called "reflexive impotence"- the feeling that you can't do anything about the shit things in the world. Ask yourself just why it is you think you can't do anything about it and I'll think you'll find that there's thousands of things you can be doing about it. I think the point the comment above is making is that you can do all these little things to slightly improve things. My addition to that advice is that you encourage others to do all those little things too. One good person can't make much of a difference, but many good people can.
The "violent overthrow" thing may seem like a joke, and it's certainly an exaggeration- I'd prefer if no one was harmed- but I fundamentally believe that we can change the systems that allow this type of corruption and destruction to happen without having to become politicians and CEOs ourselves, and I think if you, Rodriguez and whoever else is reading this, believed that too it may at the very least, give you some hope. Join some kind of organisation or movement. It's worth at least something, giving up some free time to go on marches and riot and spread your ideas. At least that's what I tell myself! Good luck!

No. We are going to be fine. Global warming is real, but there are a couple of problems with it. 1) We don’t know whether or not it is man made for sure, we don’t have enough empirical evidence pointing towards that.
      2) It is not clear that the globe warming is even a detrimental thing for the planet, as we may have melting ice caps (although Antartica is literally GROWING) but also plant life flourishes and has been, especially in Africa.
      3) There also is not reason to believe that the source of power that we’ve used to build nearly everything you have and nearly all the modern innovations needs to be limited so that we can survive. Renewable and clean energy WILL be more profitable in the future, but the only way to get to that point is to continue using the energy we use now

Temperature and Carbon Dioxide in the air seem to have a linear relationship, however, when you realize that the graph of carbon dioxide in the air is suddenly much higher than the temperature, then the cause and effect that we seem to think is true seems very unlikely. And like I said, the globe is also cooling in a lot of areas. It is not going to kill people, it will help the poor people in Africa though because their land is more prosperous

What really disappoints me the most about all of this is that anti-environmentalism is now - for some good reason - conceived as a pillar or principle for the Republican Party and even for global political conservatism (look at Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro, for instance), when:

I’m 54 and a geoscientist. I have written a number of letters (including letter of the day) to my local state newspaper concerning the dangers of climate change. I cited real data. In response I was subjected to a nasty ad hominem attack by a high up executive in Dominion Power effectively calling me a communist. No one paid me to present the scientific fact to the public, but this guy with a vested interest in misinforming the public had no data to back him up. The paper (a right wing broadsheet) did not print my reply. I was heartened by the online comments, as it became obvious people were not taken in by this overpaid grifter.

@-GinΠΓ Τάο Well axial tilt does a lot to keep the water masses circulating nutrients. The meeting of cold water bodies from the poles rich in oxygen and nutrients displace the warmer water masses in the tropics. These warm water masses are nutrient deserts so without continued circulation caused by the Coriolis effect our planet would be come banded in to oxic and anoxic rings. The rotation of the earth is a factor as well as the minor effect of the moons gravity affecting tides. The earth in relatively recent times (a few million years) was like a beautifully crafted Swiss Watch everything working together in biological harmony, until the advent of mankind who have broken the fragile equilibrium. Now on a geological time scale this was not always the case. The earth in it’s 4.5 Billion Year history has been just about everything from a molten poisonous volcanic inferno all the way through to becoming and ice covered snowball. Due to global tectonics the earths crust has been raised up from and subducted into the mantle many times with only a few vestiges of this original crust still extant today. We have been bombarded by a massive planet size object that created and formed our moon, the remains of that collision orbit between Jupiter and Mars as the Asteroid belt. The Pacific Ocean covers the hole that was caused by this. There have been six major extinctions between the Precambrian and the present. The most notable of these were the huge extinction event known as the ‘Great dying’ where 90 % of all life on earth was wiped out. This happened at the end of the Permian and the beginning of the Triassic. The second was the huge meteorite impact that wiped out 75% of all life at the end of the Cretaceous, taking with it the dinosaurs, ammonites and many of the primitive gymnosperm plant life. Since then furry rat like mammals evolved in what is known as the Tertiary and with the loss of the predominant ferns and gymnosperms, angiosperms ( flowering plants) became the predominant plant type. During this period the continents moved into the configuration we recognise today. The major ice ages ended the Tertiary and we live in the Holocene/anthropocene. Now for the first time in our planets vast history an organism has arisen that has ability to change our planet and not for the better, man. The earth will survive but we will not. If anything intelligent comes after us they will notice a thin band of radioactive fossilised plastics which will be the only relic that we ever existed, and maybe the odd rare bone. For all our hubris and fury this will be what is left.

nuclear requires less raw materials (and therefore mining) over it’s lifespan than solar (by a lot) and about the same or less than wind power (per TWh energy produced).
and that’s BEFORE we account for the batteries (or other backup).
same goes for the price, you can either scale with fossil fuels as backup power source (still the cheapest, but i think non of us wants that) or...
....with expensive low-capacity batteries, but the reality of the matter is: we can’t produce enough batteries for the minuscule amount of electric car demand there is, the entire world production couldn’t even cover the (energy storage) needs of a mega city like tokyo...

Also, other reasons for global warming or climate change is things like our farming practices, deforestation, and the infastruture we build. I am sure their are many more reasons, this is a complex issue and I am happy to see more coverage of it. I just recently listened to an episode of Joe Rogan's podcast where he spoke with David Wallace-Wells on this issue and it was fascinating a must listen for anyone interested in this topic.

@@natashavansteelandt4560 I want to live on whatever world you've concocted. Glaciers are not and will not come back no matter how much you want to believe they are, the warmest years have been happening consecutively for the past two decades. The only reason for increased snowfall is due to shifting air currents caused by increasing global temperatures. This is the cause for the polar vortexes that now hit the North Eastern US. That vortex is supposed to be over the arctic but has been pushed south by a high pressure zone, which is speeding up the melting of polar ice.
