Agreed. Younger Billy might have gotten rid of them as he did so many others (remember that incredible 18 year old drummer?) For real, no hate for Billy or the band, including D’Arcy. The 90s did not come with an instruction manual, but it did come with drugs. One of the most heartbreaking things I’ve seen was Billy saying the Pumpkins were a cliche: a successful band that had it all that was destroyed by drugs and infighting. But it’s been a long journey for those of us in GenX. Not looking for pity, but we’ve taken our lumps and all have some dents and things we’re not proud of, but for the Pumpkins it all happened in public.
@@babyanimals7271 I dont know about "heartbreaking". I thought it was pretty funny when he said "it was all like one of those awful Behind The Music-episodes" or whatever.. Hes got a lot of self distance saying that and not everyone has that.

I’ve always seen the Pumpkins as a band that always wanted to play arenas, but be innovative and unique. It’s fascinating the they walked right by the grunge movement If you haven’t seen it, check out his interview with Rick Beato. It was great to see a mature, more laid back guy, not someone stuck in 1996. He said that Kurt Cobain was the greatest artist of the 90s and Nevermind was the best album. Not sure Billy 2O years ago could do that. And kudos for him and the band. It’s been great to age alongside them!
Billy Corgan is a massive douche, easily one of the most self important artists from the 90s. Dude refuses to accept that people will always love the pumkins early work. Not to mention hes a washed up conservative like every one of his predecessor boomer musicians before him. He said some horrific stuff to and about trans women. He treated his band members like shit and then enjoyed writing history being the only one of them who cared enough to share their side of the story. Yea fuck him. Siamese Dream and MCIS are fantastic, thats all I can give to him.
@@HenritheHorse We all loved D'arcy, and maybe she contributed to more than we know. However these damn D'arcy comments are so incredibly obnoxious, it's almost sickening. You can't scroll through a single SP post without someone saying that, and I don't even get it one bit. She hasn't done much to keep herself active in the music world, yet people have the audacity to say that it's not SP without her? 🙄👌 I wish it was different, but she made it clear that she didn't want to work with the band when she sabotaged the possibility of being a part of the 2018 tour.
@@HenritheHorse She recorded all her parts in MCIS, Adore, Machina and many other recordings. And fact is, she did influence the sound of the band. In more ways than just someone that played an instrument. Also, James didn't record his parts for Gish or SD either. So by your estimation he isn't part of SP either.
really?..looks like they are buddy BC is SP..you can literally replace everyone else and noone would even notice a sound difference. You cant say the same about anyone else in the band because they arent Billy.
They came to my hometown at Pine knob music theater and it was completely dead, not even half of the pavilion seats were filled, let alone the lawn, there was not a single person on the lawn that is usually filled and you can't see the grass even. It must have cost the smashing pumpkins to do the concert at Pine knob music theater after Pine knob charged their venue fee. 😭
I've seen four Smashing Pumpkins shows this year and all of them were packed, including the one in Detroit 3 days ago. Also, from what I can find Smashing Pumpkins only played Pine Knob Music Theater in 1994 for Lollapalooza, so were you thinking of a show at a different venue?
@@claytuckett1830 It was absolutely 100% pine knob music theater, I live right down the road from there, I'm definitely not mistaken. Even I was shocked that not that many people showed up, I don't think it was because they're not popular they're just must have been something wrong in the air lol! I love the smashing pumpkins I just could not believe or understand why it was so dead. It was actually beneficial for us because we got to move all the way down by the stage because seats were so empty.
@@Shane-iy6xf Yeah, what you’re saying sounds consistent with what I’ve read. It sounds like a Corgan has sometimes booked the group for some large venues where it ended like you described. As the other user said though, they still pack out a ton of shows at stadiums/ arenas. That almost makes me wonder if their devoted fanbase is more regional. It could also just be what tickets cost nowadays. I’m seeing them on Saturday at Climate Pledge in Seattle. I’m curious to see what the turnout is. I’d expect that Jane’s Addiction co-headlining this tour will help pack out most places.
…and that’s not saying much. Haven’t been good since the early 2000’s. I saw him in an interview not so long age, resembling a washed up cry baby. Hoping the 2023 album is good, but so far 1 let down after another. I think Zwan destroyed his music writing ability. just my opinion.
I got to meet him back in 2009 and managed to ask him a bunch of stuff. One of them was about why he wears such weird stage outfits. He just gave me a big smile and said "You've gotta be crazy to be a Rockstar!".
I like how he still has Jeff in the band after James came back. Respect.
Its because Jeff is so damn good and also because having 3 guitars makes perfect sense for The Pumpkins.
Respect ❤
