Can you connect to the speaker only with bluetooth? I mean, without aplication. I personally like to download all my songs on my phone, i don't use spotify or other airplay aps. I don't want to use airplay, I want to conncet simply with bluetooth like a classic speaker. Is it possible?

Yes, you can use just one unit. But for extra connections you need a product like a hub.

Do i have to be connected to the mesh wifi that the speaker creates or can I play from Spotify if I'm connected to to my home wifi?
You have to use the supporting app. The system is very straight forward.

You have to use the app for Bluetooth connection. There is no the standard pair button. The Formation is a very advanced. audio networking system.
