Great if the customer likes it! Attempting to repair significant damage is not something I would consider. While it's definitely improved aesthetically, I can still see were the damage was reworked.
Because these wheels are no longer in production and to even find a replacement lip means you’re buying a replacement, used, set anyway which is far more expensive than the repair ever would be. Also, just because it’s bent, doesn’t mean it’s actually fatigued. And god forbid you get a brand new lip from BBS for old wheels, that would also be expensive for the end-user and for BBS because they can’t just make one new lip, they would have to produce them in bulk quantities which is usually not worth it for the company to re-make something they can’t actually sell. I’ve had some classic wheels that were bent like this, they were an older BBS set, and it only cost me about $300 to get them to repair the dents ob the lip of 2 wheels as well as general cub rash. You’re not getting a brand new lip for less than $500
You can buy new aftermarket lips and barrels for like 130USD per piece. Built with modern tooling and material. These are as good if not better than old BBS stuff. Technology has come a long way in the last 40 years.
From the first few seconds, I knew it wasn't an easy job. But this rim is not made of aluminum, it would just break when aligned. What's that weird dolly on the foot of the master at 8:05?
I can’t imagine how hard it would be to balance that ring on that wheel dolly strapped to your leg with that giant polisher ready to fling it through a wall. 9:51
Can we get a product description of items used and a video explaining how? I’m going to attempt doing this to a set of style 5s that badly need to have the clear removed, sanded, and polished. But you guys used an air tool to sand… so what grit did you use.. or start and finish with? What’s the air tool? And then for the table polisher, what type of wheels did you use along with compound and polish? I think a step by step with captions just like Chromatic does would be a better format that would help a lot of people out. I appreciate everything you guys do, and I just got y’all’s waffle conversation kit in and the quality is on point. Much love🤙🏻
Multipiece wheels were originally desinged to be customizable in size width and offset to build the optimal spec for the current racetrack. You can buy really well made new aftermarket barrels and lips for 120USD new.
WOULD BE INTERRESTING WHEN IT COMES TO BALANCING WHEN THERE WAS MATERIAL GROUND AWAY ON ONE SIDE OF THE RIM AND IF IT WAS MINE I WOULD RATHER REPLACE THE OUTER RIM AND BE DONE WITH IT.
In a best case scenario this wheel is going to end up on a shelf for display only and he is doing this video to show of his skills only or for entertainment, you know, thats what youtube is. In a worst case scenario this wheel will be used again because that outer ring is toast. You would have to heat up the aluminium until its red glowing hot to gain back its strength but then there is still a risk of beeing cracks there and it will deform a lot during the cooldown process.
No way that’s the same wheel half. The edit from destroyed to perfect probably would have been 100 hours of labor and it still wouldn’t get back to THAT good.
@@danitabugher724 Those are for OEM wheels only. BBS RS were a special wheel option for SOME BMW's and to get a legit 3 piece BBS - you're not finding it from there.

Since it’s a two piece wheel, why not just unbolt and replace the outer lip portion only. Much safer because that old metal is fatigued.
I was thinking the same thing but apparently you can’t find the parts and they are very expensive to warrant fixing it.

@@dazedfrog700 this probably is a new aftermarket lip, built with modern technologies and made of pure Chinesium, hence the big old bend
Unbelievable and outstanding workmanship. You earn your money.

What's that weird dolly on the foot of the master at 8:05?
So it can spin while polishing
@@RainOnThursday Yeah, I already figured that out when I watched the rest of it.)
Thanks
This doesn't affect it's integrity at all? (Heating and cooling over and over?) Looks great!
Excellent repair an polish
Really nice work👍
Thank you🙏🏼
Would seem to me that if you were annealing it with the torch while applying limited pressure with the jack it would have rolled in a little quicker.
No matter how you repair it. Its going to have microfractures in that area aluminumdoesnt like to be bent
For some reason watching this calms me lol
What's about structural damage to the material?

Has it lost any of it's strength and did it balance out perfect with a tyre on?

Geez. Someone went perpendicular with a curb 👀
I thought the point of split rims was so yo could change parts if they get damaged
Not when the wheels are no longer in production
@@rotor13 you can still buy replacement rims , eBay

I agree, but just putting on a new lip doesnt get you internet clout.
Show.
A new lip is £100 not worth the time or risk to repair

Cheaper just to buy a new wheel.
if it’s a real 3 piece wheel they could’ve just replaced the lip 😹
they’re just doing it to show that they’re that good lol
