Honestly even if you consider Lego DC super villains canon (which I do even if I admit you do have to fill in a few blanks for it to work) his character profile actually can work with this backstory. His profile brings up how he lost his family and was caught in an explosion before he became the Red Hood. However at no point does it actually reference him dying. It doesn’t even bring up the Joker blowing him up, so the explosion could’ve been self-inflicted for all we know (similar to this comic).
A lot of fans have pointed out that the DC Animated Universe version of Tim Drake is very similar to Jason Todd, down to the fact that they were both street kids threatened by Two-Face.
@@bd1p the crew have said repeatedly that they used Tim because he was the current Robin in the comics. It's the same logic that they used for giving Dick Tim's original suit in the animated series
@@bd1p They originally developed their version of Tim before finding out his similarities to Jason, after that they started treating him as their version of Jason as well, because to do otherwise would be redundant. Until they recently introduced Jason to that universe in Batman: the Adventures Continue.
Ok, I just wanted to point out as a Jason fan, this portrayal of him as a hotheaded and reckless kid has only really become popular in recent years, with comics like Robins, Batman: The Adventures Continue & Batman: Urban Legends effectively retconning him into some brute, who got himself killed because he disobeyed Batman's orders. Though, if you look at the source material, this portrayal couldn't be further from the truth. Jason was a very sweet and caring kid, who always saw the good in people even when Bruce was having second thoughts. Sure, he could jump to conclusions or be impulsive, but what Robin wasn't? And the fact of the matter is, Jason didn't die because he disobeyed orders on the field, but was literally tricked by his biological mother into walking into the Joker's grasps, so that she could use Jason as leverage to escape blackmail that Joker had on her. The last panel we see him alive in, he is trying to untie his mother (who lo and behold, the Joker betrayed with his broken and bruised fingers, so that at least one of them could escape. Now I can see why later adaptations left out the bits about his mom-- its convoluted and way too dark in a story that's already horrifically tragic, plus somehow having a kid die because of his own mistakes is just slightly better than one who died just because the universe was cruel. Still though, it really does pain me to see how many people still believe that Jason's death was a fault of his own recklessness or brutality, when he was literally just a sweet kid whose life was robbed from him because of a madman.
Jason is literally my favorite bat kid he even if he skirts the line has always had a great sense of justice probably the best outta the family cause he doesn't see everything black and white and constantly doesn't believe he is even good enough yet still goes outta his way to do as much good as possible
You realize how many ppl batman has dropped off roofs like honestly the guys better off being dead then being a vegetable or confined to a wheelchair the rest of his life
It's worth mentioning that Jason could be pretty aggressive compared to Dick and Tim, but his aggression came from love and compassion. Like the example of the rapist who "fell" off of the balcony. That only happened after Robin realized that he wasn't going to face justice. That's what it comes down to. Jason has an extremely strong sense of justice, and can be driven beyond what some consider reasonable to serve justice. This trend continues into his time as Red Hood, to an extent. Originally he was portrayed as much more sinister, and eventually they just made him completely insane. Thankfully that aspect has been mostly put to bed.

The reason why there’s no memorial for Jason Tood is because the Batcave was mainly covering the basics as well recreating some interior architecture and tech from the Batcave sets. Though I could be wrong at that one.
“Jason was reckless, impulsive and hotheaded, which eventually led to his capture and usually death at the hands of the Joker” That’s not true and I’m sick of people pushing this like it is. Yknow my main takeaway from this video is how fun it would be to actually watch you do lore essays on non-lego related stuff, lol, considering over half of this video is mostly about the animated series.
Great video! I always wondered why they skipped over Jason, and I always thought it was because it was too dark for kids to know that Robin the Boy Wonder was beaten to death with a crowbar by Joker. As for the connections to B:TAS, Tim’s costume change also happened in the comics, his first suit was the green pants one and then later on he changed to the red and black costume to honor his best friend superboy, but otherwise, it is eerily similar to the show. Also, this isn’t really related to anything but I never knew Killer Moth was planned to be in B:TAS, and it’s a shame they didn’t add him because I feel like that show could do with some goofy villains for once instead of complex tragic ones like Mr. Freeze and psychopathic murderers like the Joker.
I know they'd probably never show it, but I would love an extended scene of Lego Jason Todd Robin getting 'killed,' his body falling apart like they always do in the games, and then smash cut to Ra's Al Ghul putting his pieces back together at his hideout
I think Jason Red Hood isn't in LB1 because he was to new for people to know about, his Red Hood character was only made 3 years before the game was released, so the devs probably didn't think much of him or ever heard of him due to being tied to small comics
I always saw it as Jason being the Robin in the first game since he acts and looks so different to Tim in the second and third game. And that since he appears in Lego Batman 2 he died between the games. But if you pay attention to the way the characters act the robin the first game seems completely different to the one in the second, the one the first game is reckless and aggressive much like Jason. And this is probably way more than what they were ever thinking when making the games but killer croc decapitates him which could be a reference to the fact that killer croc killed Jason's mother in the comics if I remember correctly, but since nightwings in the first game that means it is after the time of Dick Grayson and since there's a massive shift in character traits between the first and second game it is not stretch to say they're two different characters. Also if you look at Batman's actions, you can see in the first game he's just happier and more chill whereas he's darker in the second game which could allude to the tragedy that took place between games
I always loved when games or shows don’t tell which Robin, Robin is. It’s up to you to figure out but Robin is definitely one of them. They just drop hints which one in the timeline they are. It’s hilarious to me.
To me, I always think Tim Drake is the Robin for the entire Lego Batman Trilogy, since in a story arc and character arc, it makes since, considering how much importance Robin has in the later two games. Not to mention that the Robin mini fig in Lego Batman 1 was based on Tim’s original Robin suit, as Jason Tood wore the original Robin suit that was worn by Dick Grayson, but that’s just what I believe.
Another one of the similarities of Batman The Animated Series and Lego Batman 1 is that the start up screen for lego Batman is one to one for the theme song intro for BTAS
Batman the Adventure Continues has a lot of canon errors, like the age of Tim Drake, references to 9/11 and other things but it could work in this lego universe.
I’m really glad they didn’t just put Jason Todd Red hood into game just because he’s popular and actually explains the lore behind the character that isn’t just all silly but something not to graphic either
@@bd1pSince 2020 Paul Dini the writer/producer of Batman: The Animated Series has been working on the comic sequel to Batman: The Animated Series and they added Red Hood into the canon of the DCAU
I don’t think redhood being in the lego games before family matters excludes the movie from being canon since LEGO Batman 2 had brainiac before he came to Gotham so I think it may just be that they wanted him in the earlier game but in terms of story he didn’t exist yet
well, family matters cannot take place in the same universe, due to it being the first time Batman meets shazam, but also when Damien is Robin. In the game universe, he meets shazam while tim, the previous robin, is active
I think it's a stretch, especially with the killer croc set stuff, but it's an interesting idea, and there's really no reason not to be alright with it
15:20 you also have to keep in mind that in this wave they also released a set with Batman fighting Deadshot and Harley Quinn And that set you're talking about has Katana and captain boomerang and all of these came out around the time the suicide squad movie came out so part of me feels like that's why croc was there
The explanation of Red Hood vs Killer Croc kinda makes sense but ... Let's be real, they released Croc Katana and Boomerang in this set so Suicide Squad movie cast, Red Hood was just a good surprise or them realising that it's a popular character
I’m my opinion, Jason’s canon in arkham is the best and represent the true resentment for batman. because instead of being beaten with a crowbar for 15 minutes and blown up, jason is brutally tortured for months in a wing of arkham. which if rumours hold truth batman WALKS PAST in arkham asylum. being beaten for months and batman not trying to save him really shows how much resentment jason has for him: even if the arkham knight wasn’t the best execution of his revenge.
Jason shouldn’t hate Batman though, the entire point of under the red hood was that Jason didn’t hate Bruce for not saving him he hated him for not breaking his one rule. Arkham Jason on the other hand is just another tragic villain not even an anti hero
i think a more likely answer for why jason isn't mention Lego Batman 1 is that the robin were with is jason. if you look at the outfits and compare it to the comics the outfit robin wares in lb1 is very similar to jasons. Just what i like to think though as it makes my timeline make more sense seeing as i consider the games and movies too be two seperate canons.
Actually, I'm pretty sure the set with killer croc resembles more the DC super villains game because of the design of croc himself and also captain boomerang. But it still works because I think Jason Todd's canon of that game is perfectly compatible with everything that you mentioned.
the DCAU doesn't refuse to mention jason todd, it just predates the red hood reveal. that only happened in 2005, the same year justice league unlimited ended. as far as lego batman, I honestly don't think it was an intentional omission. like I said jason todd was revealed as red hood in 2005, development of the first lego batman began in 2007, it genuinely might just be that red hood jason todd was too recent at the time of the games development to be included, the development team might not have even been aware of that storyline when they were working on the game. I mean, damien was introduced around the same time and like red hood he also didn't appear until lego batman 2
4:16 actually the atom in lego dc super villians right before you start boss fight with him in the story he points out shrinking technology of BRAINIAC so that takes place after lego batman 3 becouse they have acces to brainiac' s tools and atom is reasearching them
*And then lego dimensions happened..* Which I believe is what changes the dc universe, putting gotham and metropolis together, thus starting lego dc super villains.
LEGO Batman takes place in the same universe as the animated series and the Game developers wanted to take a friendly side so they didn’t include Jason todd story
The big problem with this is that this comic was released well after Lego Batman 2 & 3 and is even more dubiously cannon than Family Matters and Lego Supervillains
The physical LEGO Jason Todd Robin's design is actually pulled from DC's New 52 era. I was gonna mention that appearance until I checked the costume he was wearing.
My guess on why they didn't bring the story into lite in lego form is cause the game was directed towards E10+, so probably kept some r Rated story elements out. Not to say they couldn't do it in a lighter tone. Great video
The reason that croc appears in that set with not only captian boomerang and kitana is becuase the suicide squad movie was being released at the time. lego never put out offical suicide squad sets but to capitalize on the movie they rolled those characeters into other sets.
13:08 why do I remember the first part of this being an episode. Like, Joker torturing Robin and exploding the warehouse he's in with and then Bats saving him.
Scarface being carved from a tree is from the comics. The gallows tree was at blackgate, not arkham. In fact the data even says it's from blackgate. And in tas, when wesker was carving Scarface, he was just rebuilding him, not creating him for the first time.
"If the game holds the same continuity as dc cannon" Bro, it does NOT. It is based on Batman TAS. Jason Todd is not in Batman The Animated Series, and thus not in the lego game. And since nightwing is not in the story, only batman and robin, you could even argue that this robin is Dick Grayson (even thought this adds up in regards to clayface being alive and the height difference between Batman and Robin)
Sorry bht most of this is a huge stretch. Batman being trained by the league of shadows was a Nolan thing. And also most redesigns happened because the minifigures were redesigned for LEGO DC superheroes
I will say, while the games do draw from the DCAU, they also have Damian. And the Justice League is not based on the DCAU one it's the New 52 Justice League. It's much more of a mish mash then taking from any one source.
I don't remember Lego batman 1 ever referring to Robin as Tim, so I always assumed Lego batman 1 is Jason, 2 and 3 are Tim, also makes more sense with the costume and hairstyle
This is a great theory but I'm not sure if you should use those comics for this as those where only made in more recent years (2020-2021) where as the games and movies were all made before that in the 2000's and 2010's so I don't think this could've been what they had in mind for Jason but I guess you could find some way to make it work anyways love your content man
They hate him because a dark story and different morals, wich I hate because then they change who he is every other comic bc "But the readers would hate him" or "he's only evil" when he's supposed to be morally gray
I would not rely on that new animated series comic tie-in, it breaks canon many times and was only created so DC collectibles could sell figures outside of the show in the animated series style
Great video but the part with Justice League unlimited made no sense cause john stuart green lantern is in the show but in the game its Hal Jordan so hawk girl and green lantern are missing in the game. With the addition of cyborg in the game
When Lego Joker hit Lego Jason Todd with the crowbar it just broke him apart like in the video game and he stole all his studs and that’s why Lego Red Hood wants to kill Joker now
Grayson actually becomes Batman after Batman dies, that Damian timeline was in uncanon timelines where one he becomes immortal and murderous or a repeat closer to mainline where he gets killed by Tim Drake Batman.
I don’t really look at the whole Jason was killed then brought back. It hurts my brain, so I mainly just look at the Arkham knight game where he was abused by joker but didn’t necessarily die
The animated series comic is honestly WAY more tragic. I mean Batman saving Jason at the last second as the warehouse collapses, the joker is pinned down by rubble and when Batman runs to save his greatest enemy his son screams to let him die so they can escape. Batman couldn’t let someone die, no matter what, but right as he saves the joker, Jason is caught in a small explosion and (to Batman) is killed. He saved an uncaring, sadistic, terrorist at the cost of his son’s life.
Great video love the idea but the comics came out years later than Lego Batman 2 and the Lego sets were a loss tie in to the Suicide Squad movie that came out that year but still love the idea
there's a theory that says lego batman the videogame is a prequel to arkham asylum, if that's true then, he would become arkham knight, but i don't believe it. you should make a video about this theory.
Well in recent years the position of being skipped over goes to Tim Drake soooo, I guess there’s only ever enough room for 3 robins at a time in one particular place and they’re certainly never gonna pass on Dick lol

That is always what i have thought.
@@lawznwdsc neat
@@ShockwaveFPSStudios interesting perspective
Another one of the similarities of Batman The Animated Series and Lego Batman 1 is that the start up screen for lego Batman is one to one for the theme song intro for BTAS
Batman the Adventure Continues has a lot of canon errors, like the age of Tim Drake, references to 9/11 and other things but it could work in this lego universe.
Dude the character models updates we’re just to match the new Lego figures that came out in the sets back then
I’m really glad they didn’t just put Jason Todd Red hood into game just because he’s popular and actually explains the lore behind the character that isn’t just all silly but something not to graphic either
Slight correction, LEGO Batman 2 kept some old designs (Scarecrow, Clayface, Mr. Freeze, etc.)
Your point still stands though.
Regardless of canon, neglecting my boy Jason is inexcusable >:(
i mean, all the robins are neglected. They’re oprhans.
@@bd1p not damian Wayne
@@ked49 he's a pseudo orphan
@@bd1pSince 2020 Paul Dini the writer/producer of Batman: The Animated Series has been working on the comic sequel to Batman: The Animated Series and they added Red Hood into the canon of the DCAU
@@The_Blue_Otaku yeah, maybe you should watch the video
I really want a Jason Todd Robin and Batman story, I'm fine with it even being a limited comic series.
Same!
I think it's a stretch, especially with the killer croc set stuff, but it's an interesting idea, and there's really no reason not to be alright with it
15:20 you also have to keep in mind that in this wave they also released a set with Batman fighting Deadshot and Harley Quinn
And that set you're talking about has Katana and captain boomerang and all of these came out around the time the suicide squad movie came out so part of me feels like that's why croc was there
the main reason killer croc was in that set was because he was in suicide squad
This starts sounding like a conspiracy theory video at roughly 9 minutes in.
The Jason Comics for the DCAU were only released last year… meaning the games couldn’t have been based on them
i think a more likely answer for why jason isn't mention Lego Batman 1 is that the robin were with is jason. if you look at the outfits and compare it to the comics the outfit robin wares in lb1 is very similar to jasons. Just what i like to think though as it makes my timeline make more sense seeing as i consider the games and movies too be two seperate canons.
Red Hood deserves a rated M video game like the punisher game that came out in 05.
Actually, I'm pretty sure the set with killer croc resembles more the DC super villains game because of the design of croc himself and also captain boomerang. But it still works because I think Jason Todd's canon of that game is perfectly compatible with everything that you mentioned.
9:08 i know i did not just watch the sickest transition on earth
did you not think it worth mentioning that BTAC started in 2020.....
Fun fact: in lego DC Batman: family matters, it is confirmed that all the bat children have an allowance of 5 dollars a week or Month i forget
I know it doesn’t matter, but hearing TNBA be referred to as BTAS season 3 hits my ear wrong. The inner DCAU fanboy in me is screaming “ITS SEASON 4”
the DCAU doesn't refuse to mention jason todd, it just predates the red hood reveal. that only happened in 2005, the same year justice league unlimited ended.
as far as lego batman, I honestly don't think it was an intentional omission. like I said jason todd was revealed as red hood in 2005, development of the first lego batman began in 2007, it genuinely might just be that red hood jason todd was too recent at the time of the games development to be included, the development team might not have even been aware of that storyline when they were working on the game. I mean, damien was introduced around the same time and like red hood he also didn't appear until lego batman 2
This, Jason as Red Hood and Damien Wayne were made in the 00s but they have only recently have been in outside media a lot, Damien especially
How is dc super villains not a sequel? They directly mention brainiac and red hood is fully voice acted in that game
it takes place on a different earth
Is it because it’s post Lego dimensions?
@@bd1pWhere'd you get that from
Jason actually wasn’t that bad as Robin
The fans killed him
4:16 actually the atom in lego dc super villians right before you start boss fight with him in the story he points out shrinking technology of BRAINIAC so that takes place after lego batman 3 becouse they have acces to brainiac' s tools and atom is reasearching them
This goes hard much love and thx for talking about my favorite Robin
This was such a well researched and fascinating video. Great job.
15:28 they used killer croc because it came out around the same time as suicide squad. Also I’m pretty sure the set came out before the comic
*And then lego dimensions happened..*
Which I believe is what changes the dc universe, putting gotham and metropolis together, thus starting lego dc super villains.
Just a friendly reminder that the Jason as Red Hood storyline was made in 2005 so BTAS would have no mention
LEGO Batman takes place in the same universe as the animated series and the Game developers wanted to take a friendly side so they didn’t include Jason todd story
Nice vid bro, Lego lore goes hard.
The big problem with this is that this comic was released well after Lego Batman 2 & 3 and is even more dubiously cannon than Family Matters and Lego Supervillains
I know it’s a dark story, but be a very interesting plot for the Lego Batman 4 if that ever happens
Would love to see more Lego Batman lore videos like this
The physical LEGO Jason Todd Robin's design is actually pulled from DC's New 52 era. I was gonna mention that appearance until I checked the costume he was wearing.
My guess on why they didn't bring the story into lite in lego form is cause the game was directed towards E10+, so probably kept some r Rated story elements out. Not to say they couldn't do it in a lighter tone.
Great video
11:30 2 If you count this green lantern not being John Stewart
The reason that croc appears in that set with not only captian boomerang and kitana is becuase the suicide squad movie was being released at the time. lego never put out offical suicide squad sets but to capitalize on the movie they rolled those characeters into other sets.
How does death even work in the Lego universe? Can’t people just be rebuilt?
13:08 why do I remember the first part of this being an episode. Like, Joker torturing Robin and exploding the warehouse he's in with and then Bats saving him.
Scarface being carved from a tree is from the comics. The gallows tree was at blackgate, not arkham. In fact the data even says it's from blackgate. And in tas, when wesker was carving Scarface, he was just rebuilding him, not creating him for the first time.
"If the game holds the same continuity as dc cannon"
Bro, it does NOT. It is based on Batman TAS. Jason Todd is not in Batman The Animated Series, and thus not in the lego game. And since nightwing is not in the story, only batman and robin, you could even argue that this robin is Dick Grayson (even thought this adds up in regards to clayface being alive and the height difference between Batman and Robin)
in the ds version you can build a gravestone with a red hood n top of it in the batcave trophy room
Jason always had that darkness in it, the pit and him coming back made him embrace it instead of fighting it like he tried to as robin
Not initially
Great as hell video only thing that annoyed me was the 1990 batman movie cause it was actually 1989
with most of the burtonverse releasing in the 90s, i figured it’s best just to lump those into that decade
This deserves to be more than a 4AM video for me
this is my favorite type of content
Sorry bht most of this is a huge stretch. Batman being trained by the league of shadows was a Nolan thing. And also most redesigns happened because the minifigures were redesigned for LEGO DC superheroes
I want Bouncing Boy to appear in the next Lego Batman now (possibly in a sort of Legion of Superheroes DLC)
I will say, while the games do draw from the DCAU, they also have Damian. And the Justice League is not based on the DCAU one it's the New 52 Justice League. It's much more of a mish mash then taking from any one source.
yeah but the sewer smash set came out before the comic had even been thought about, let alone being published
Lego Batman 2 red hood was in every version I remember unlocking him on ps3
I don't remember Lego batman 1 ever referring to Robin as Tim, so I always assumed Lego batman 1 is Jason, 2 and 3 are Tim, also makes more sense with the costume and hairstyle
This is a great theory but I'm not sure if you should use those comics for this as those where only made in more recent years (2020-2021) where as the games and movies were all made before that in the 2000's and 2010's so I don't think this could've been what they had in mind for Jason but I guess you could find some way to make it work anyways love your content man
Fun Fact: Stephanie Brown / Spoiler, was Robin in between Tim Drake and Damian Wayne. She however was fired for disobeying orders.
They hate him because a dark story and different morals, wich I hate because then they change who he is every other comic bc "But the readers would hate him" or "he's only evil" when he's supposed to be morally gray
When they made LB1, Jason wasn't resurrected yet. No Red Hood persona to speak of.
Nah, Jason todd ain't the Robin most important wth
These 3 am videos are getting better nowadays
I would not rely on that new animated series comic tie-in, it breaks canon many times and was only created so DC collectibles could sell figures outside of the show in the animated series style
using the revita train music in the background, cute ^^
underrated game
Great video but the part with Justice League unlimited made no sense cause john stuart green lantern is in the show but in the game its Hal Jordan so hawk girl and green lantern are missing in the game. With the addition of cyborg in the game
When Lego Joker hit Lego Jason Todd with the crowbar it just broke him apart like in the video game and he stole all his studs and that’s why Lego Red Hood wants to kill Joker now
3:18 actually Damian becomes Batman after Bruce dies
Actually nightwing does often
Grayson actually becomes Batman after Batman dies, that Damian timeline was in uncanon timelines where one he becomes immortal and murderous or a repeat closer to mainline where he gets killed by Tim Drake Batman.
More Lego Batman Lore lets goooooo!
I don’t really look at the whole Jason was killed then brought back. It hurts my brain, so I mainly just look at the Arkham knight game where he was abused by joker but didn’t necessarily die
Ye even sadder as well 😢
Jason Todd is the reason I think batman shouldn’t have a robin.
In Lego verse Jason just left Bruce
The animated series comic is honestly WAY more tragic. I mean Batman saving Jason at the last second as the warehouse collapses, the joker is pinned down by rubble and when Batman runs to save his greatest enemy his son screams to let him die so they can escape. Batman couldn’t let someone die, no matter what, but right as he saves the joker, Jason is caught in a small explosion and (to Batman) is killed.
He saved an uncaring, sadistic, terrorist at the cost of his son’s life.
BD1P??? THE ISAAC GUY? WHAT? Im so confused, incredible content though :)
whos isaac?
Great video love the idea but the comics came out years later than Lego Batman 2 and the Lego sets were a loss tie in to the Suicide Squad movie that came out that year but still love the idea
there's a theory that says lego batman the videogame is a prequel to arkham asylum,
if that's true then, he would become arkham knight, but i don't believe it.
you should make a video about this theory.
i always thought the lego batman timeline went like this:
lbm2-dick grayson's robin
lbm1-jason todd's robin
lbm3-tim drake's robin
Beating jokerizing this joker really was inzane against robins
Well in recent years the position of being skipped over goes to Tim Drake soooo, I guess there’s only ever enough room for 3 robins at a time in one particular place and they’re certainly never gonna pass on Dick lol
i remember the lego batman 2 movie that they used for the game
