- First of a two part video about the dividing head. In this video we look at the diving head and its accessories as well as how to align its pivoting axis with the milling machines table. As for all THATLAZYMACHINIST videos, this video is produced for novice , garage or beginner machinists. You can find all my videos as well as project drawings and course notes on my website THATLAZYMACHINIST.COM . Thanks for understanding that I am a professional toolmaker and teacher but I am not a professional video producer (and it shows). I produce these videos for fun as a little retirement project that lets me give back a little of what was passed on to me by so many amazing trades people most of whom, sadly, are no longer with us. Thanks Marc! I know it takes a lot of work to prepare a video like this, you really are a very good teacher!
Yay Marc! Clearest explanations anywhere!
Thank you for another video. Your presentations are always clear, detailed and easy to follow. I am a beginning hobby machinist and I find your videos extremely helpful.
Thanks Bernhard, the second part of the video came out yesterday if you have the time, check it out!
@@THATLAZYMACHINIST Already watched it! And as always: A great video tutorial! Thank you.
Thanks Marc!
It is good to see you again !
A NEW VIDEO!!! How cool is tht!! thanks Marc
Yessssssssssssss a new video .. thanks mark
really enjoyed this Marc. thanks
Thank you, well explained. I only have a rotary table but with dividing plates. I thought what I had was a tailstock. Now I'll have to remember it is a footstock. Will also need to make a "Median support" that holds the shaft from the side since I only have a vertical mill. Life gets complicated! My lack of accessories and knowledge makes for some Rube Goldberg setups.
Marc, thank you for this video -- it was very informative. I've only used a dividing head once, about 40 years ago in college to successfully cut a gear. Now, after watching this video, I _need_ a universal dividing head with all accessories! ;) I just wish my bank account would let me buy one....
awesome, thank you
wealth of information, thank you for posting, the singing, , , , not so ,
Marc, you always have the right words to make understanding your presentation easy. Thanks.
Marc, thanks for this! I didn’t know how to properly align my deciding head!
Lol sometimes I don't either... I go with the nondeciding head :)
Yup sometimes I’m not too good at making decisions!
Eccentricity is the term you are looking for, and indicating the top and side periphery
of the 4 jaw chuck to set it for parallelism and straighness, will get you real close.
i really liked your technique of splitting the run out at the end of the shaft. would it have helped to use the footstock to support that end while you were indicating the chuck end?
excellent explanation. Could you share the manual of that divisor
HI Do you know the correct designation of the spindle nose. I have a similar dividing head but no user manual and I wish to buy some back plates. Thanks for the video
I appreciate all your efforts in explaining this device. I am so wanting to make gears and looking for a diving head that is affordable. The price range is across the board from $450 to #$3000+. Do you have any suggestions on brands?
Hi Marc! Nice video using your dividing head. I bought a used dividing head identical to yours, I am very happy with it. Do you have a copy of the manual or a pdf? I would be interested in taking mine apart so a manual would be helpful.
Hi Marc what kind of dividing head is that ...just wondering
Make video roatry table
Hi Tanqueed, here is a link to my introduction to the rotary table. Thanks for watching, Marc ruclips.net/video/n9uN8-jg0Gg/видео.html
"Footstock is only used to support parts between centers."
Thats exactly what a tail stock it
"Median support"=steadyrest?
Just for us imperial folk
Curious: where are you from?
A tailstock is also used for cutting the part. The footstock isn't used for cutting.
I assume he's from Quebec, Canada by the license plates on the wall.
@@imagineaworld I think a steady rest actually supports the part in three places whereas the median support only uses one.
