I have a Fairbanks 503 and it seems like the cam shaft to the exhaust valve is getting worn out, the valve travel is less than 1/3 what it use to be and because of that the engine is running very weak. anyone know if there’s a way to enhance the valve travel? Thanks
Ramon, there is not much that you can do as far as I know. 1. Adjust valve clearance on rocker arm to about 0.030 2. Check the pushrod carrier that pushes the pushrod. They get worn places on them. 3. Get a different cam gear. The lobes wear out. 4. Weld up the cam lobe and machine smooth or use a grinder to smooth and reshape the lobe.
@@ramongonzalez2909 they are a very simple engine on the inside. They’re not hard to work on at all. Just pay attention to the timing marks. I believe the cam lobes are replaceable.
Natural gas or propane fueled Most of those FB engines are used to run pump jacks The bigger the engine the deeper the more fluid to lift and or the deeper the well/fluid level.
@@peterp1575 I’m not sure how much fuel per hour. I ran this engine on propane. If you are running gasoline with a heavy load on the engine, I would guess it would be quite a bit more than 3/4 gallons per hour.
You act like you have done that a time or two...... sounds great.
Thats pure music!
Good like!!!!

@@texasfairbanksman272 thank you, I was trying to keep from disassembling the engine but sounds like I have no choice. God bless

1 сylinder diesel? How many rpm and how much fuel in hour does it take?
Natural gas or propane fueled

It’s a one cylinder gas engine. It will run on propane, natural gas, gasoline or kerosene. I believe the maximum rpm is 450 and makes about 36 hp.
@@texasfairbanksman272 Thank You. 36 hp - 3/4 gallons of liquid fuel in 1 hour?

@@texasfairbanksman272 Thank You.
I have a zc208 and a zc346, someday I’d like a 503 and a 739.
JH, When you get a 503 or 739, you will see how much larger they really are.
@@texasfairbanksman272 I have a buddy that has one, they are beastly for sure,
Yes they are. It’s amazing how much compression they have. It was all I could do to pull it through the compression stroke.
