    You might want to check out Rincon de Guayabitos. We are just north of Lo de Marcos 15 minutes. It’s a very popular beach town that caters to national tourists mostly from Guadalajara. Big families and loads of inexpensive accommodations. The town right next door is La Peñita and that is a working town with a beautiful main avenue and plaza. On Thursday we have a marketplace in the plaza and we close down an entire street. It’s a true working market, mostly artisan crafts, essentials, food, drinks clothing, plants…we have lived here full time for 7 years.

    Gabriel, I've been seeing a similar scam where this happens on credit card terminals as well. You put your credit/debit card in and the waiter unknowingly just keeps hitting the green button. On one of the screens, the green button selects paying in USD rather than local currency and gives you a bad exchange. The waiter doesn't realize, the terminal is designed to make it likely for them to make this mistake.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  16 дней назад +4

      It was $27.50 USD round trip for a 45 minute boat ride each way, not a scam, super convenient. Worth paying a few extra dollars instead of dealing with a bus for who knows how long, getting off and then waiting for a boat. ✌️

    Great insights on the exchange situation. I find there to be quite a range of options and if you shop around, one can avoid being ripped off by playing close attention. Many folks traveling to places like PV aren't seasoned travellers, might only get there for a week or two at the most, are there for a good time, couldn't care less about the exchange, so they get taken advantage of. Easy come, easy go. That first place you showed was a rip off, and right in the heart of the tourist zone. I'm sure the guy is making a killing.

    What do you think about the "danger travel" genre that has sprung up in recent years? RUclipsrs literally risking their lives for views-hanging out in shady neighborhoods, going to war zones, getting sent to prison, etc. I personally like your relaxing travel style as it seems more authentic and less contrived just as clickbait. That being said, the views do tend to be more limited in your genre.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  16 дней назад +3

      I don't really have a problem with it, depends on the youtuber, some I just don't click with and don't follow. Sometimes it can be a problem i.e. one guy who I won't name went to somewhere in the Caribbean, I forget which country, got into the drug culture there, showed a bunch of the people on video without blurring their faces and then some of them ended up in jail as a result. I think that was irresponsible. Yes, some of them were probably breaking drug laws but the sentences can be really harsh and I don't think that youtubers should be exposing people who are doing their own thing and not scamming someone else. But for example Indigo Traveler mainly goes to pretty dangerous places, but with a journalistic approach of showing what their lives are like, not just trying to create clickbait videos, so that's all good. I'd say it's a bit of a mixed bag, depends on the person, the country, the situation, etc.

    So, hows the public transportation there? Can you like travel around easily solo without renting a car? And maybe go for walks through local villages or nature or something? Or is that just something people dont really do in Mexico? I mean, of course you can make walks but I mean like not along busy roads or some not very interesting suburb. Because the town itself looks ok, but very busy and touristy. Perfect for a family beach holiday of course, but maybe not so interesting when you are there by yourself. Seems like a decent place to use as base camp for a couple of weeks and explore the region around it, perhaps? And I really dont like tours, for me it takes away all the excitement of exploring if you know what I mean.

    Declining the conversion is absolutely not unique to Mexico. Accepting the currency conversion in any country is always a huge disadvantage to person withdrawing the funds. Same if you’re paying by credit card in a restaurant or store, decline the conversion because otherwise, you’ll pay even more for your beer or your shirt.

      $30 for a cheap t-shirt would be a scam, but for a nice button up it's fair. Mexico isn't nearly as cheap as it used to be. Check hotel prices on booking.com, they're pretty close to the prices in the US in touristy areas. You can find better deals if you get out of the tourist zone, for both hotels and shopping in local markets.

    You say there are scams in PV? It's too touristy- too many vendors on the beach- you can't even enjoy some peace. There are tour guides that rip people off. You pay for tours for yourself and the guides! They ended up staying to eat and drink- you pay. The tours are just the same as other tours. You might be better off going on tours thru Viator online. They don't stay - eat with you for free meals or drinks. Much safer. Good luck!! ❤

    Gabriel I'm with you on the video's title. I spent six weeks in the Mayan Riviera (Cancun, Playa, etc) and three weeks in the Nayarit Riviera and I liked Puerto Vallarta a lot. I always recommend it over Cancun whenever the topic pops up. They were gonna charge you $53 bucks more for trhe withdrawl. Yikes!!!!
