My 7-year-old son and I are hooked on RC! We just bought the Desert Truck and also the DeeRC Saboteur. Learning lots from your channel mate! Keep up the strong work!
I threw some traxxas 1/10 scale shocks/ oil filled and ran the next size up on tires with the same hex and it really made a difference in the truck. totally different animal.
You can really see the center differential effect. That's exactly why I bought the Team Associated Rival MT10. Awesome drivetrain on the lower end of pro grade hobbyist RC trucks.
I own several of the HBX and for the money(before all RC prices got stupid this year)they are pretty decent - at least for my speed and run time. The 2995 came out a few years back for a short time. I was unable to find one and went with a ZD racing version. Contacted HBX and I was told discontinued. Now this "newer upgraded" version is out (3 diffs on it) Older version also had a set up for adding a small ESC fan. Pretty much the same RC. With owning diff HBX versions I can switch tires & wheels, bodies, shocks(oil filled) - etc. Gives me a bit diversity and looks.
Yes I love my HBXs. The newer 2995 also comes with the 550 motor, while I believe the previous version was a 490. Once I upgraded mine to brushless, it became one of my favorite cars! Powerful brushless motor and larger tires makes it insane!
Good info - I was not aware of the increased motor size. As I look at other older vids they did do away with the under body enclosure and ESC fan set up. Give & take.
This video was very informative, as I am thinking of adding this to my fleet. I'm pretty impressed with the video and I think my mind is made up. I crashed our favorite car yesterday. My Holyton 9205e is out of service for now. I had a 3S battery in it and I think I fried the motor too. Well about $50 in parts (including another upgraded motor) and I'll be back on the road again. Meanwhile I got the itch for a new car and I think this is going to be it. Keep up the cool videos, I always enjoy them!!

On second thought, maybe a 3660. Just need to figure out what kv. Any thoughts there? I need a simple calculator like the ones for helicopter head speed to find optimal cell number and kv combinations. I might try, just need the gear ratios.
The motors I ordered are both 3652 can sizes. I think I’m going to put the 3300kv in the 2995 so that I can use the 4000 in the Holyton. That way I have a Holyton with a 3300, and another one with a 4000 👍

These are great fun Evan, I have the original version with a 490 motor from a year ago the 550 motor looks to be a good upgrade. Looking forward to the future brushless setup.
Awesome! Even with the w 550 I feel like it should be a bit faster. I’m looking forward to it too. I think the chassis and drivetrain will be able to handle those larger wheels. We will certainly find out!
There’s a new model coming out that’s similar. I’ll be getting one soon. Same chassis but different body, brushless, and can take 3s. I still love this 2995 though, I’ve upgraded it pretty heavily.
derby rc, can you recomend me one of this batteries for the stock hbx 2995? a cnhl 11.1v 1300mah 100c or a 2200 30C 11.1 24.42w/h same brand im between those two im afraid to break something thanks in advance
Actually!! My motors I ordered just came in. So that project should be happening this weekend, with the video coming out in the next week or two. Trying to decide between the 3300kv or the 4000kv. Then the other one will probably go on Max’s Holyton.
Hi. Love your channel as I am just getting into this hobby with my grandkids. Is the reason you want to upgrade to a brushless motor because you want to increase the speed? Also, can you recommend a stronger battery that will fit this car. Thanks
Hello and glad you like the videos! Yes the brushless motor adds speed and power. I did it to this car a couple years ago now and have a lot of great footage on it. One of my favorites! Here is a battery that fits, though it is tight. amzn.to/3wDmqzW You would also need a battery adapter: amzn.to/49NS4cG Hope this helps!!
Yes they are somewhat different. With HBX, this one and the 901a are the biggest contenders in my opinion. This one has much better traction but is not as fast. However, if you have seen the video where I upgraded the motor and wheels on this 2995, you know it’s my favorite!
The 2995 is definitely better than the Holyton, even in stock form. I would go with the Yoncher, cuz it’s actually the same as the 2995 but under a different name and has oil filled shocks and bigger tires. I might be able to get you a link to a similar one to the yoncher but I think it’s cheaper and it’s green. It seems to be only on Banggood.
Derby RC - I got this RC based on your recommendation for my son and the screw keeps popping out of the steering linkage that attaches to wheel. My local hobby shops have problems matching the screw size. You have any clue where to get spares and correct size ?
Interesting! Does the plastic seem damaged? Use the manual to get the part number and then check Haiboxing-hobby.com. If it’s not listed, just use the contact button to send them an email and they are usually rather helpful. Hope that helps!
Do you have a driving technique video (or can you recommend a channel)? Front and back flips etc? Are the stock shocks here the new stock shocks or old? I understand HBX had some upgrades for 2022 (maybe from your channel!).
I don’t have one but I may put one together soon! These are the older stock shocks. I do believe the new units hve oil filled ones, but they’re not as good as the ones I recommended on the upgrade videos.
@@DerbyCityRC I think Bezgar and Flyhal cherry pick other manufacturers RC's and just rebrand them. Flyhal' s as a rule of thumb tend to be alot cheaper than the model they are based on.

Just opened mine up. I found the four screws on all three diffs needed tightening. Plenty of grease though. Definitely needs a 3650 size due to the fixed mounting holes. Also the pinion is glued to the shaft. Did you buy a new pinion or do you plan using the existing one?
Darn! I was hoping it had a set screw. It’s probably just pressed on. If the pinion has a “D” shape it may still work. Otherwise I’ll have to figure out the gear pitch.
Awesome! So you need to try to find a way to pull it off without damage lol. Can be tricky. and even more careful when pressing into the new motor. I’m gonna take mine out shortly and see if I can find a gear with a set screw. Cuz that’s definitely the better way to go.

Agreed! I’ll let you know what I find! I also realized I forgot to order a new receiver so I can’t finish that project today!! 🤕. So doing the Holyton first. But I’m going to open up the pinion on the 2995 today.
Hey, hope you see this. Are you using the same driveshaft and center differential for that upgrade? If so, what pinion teeth did you use because I brought a set and it isn’t fit it will strip it.
Are you talking about the upgrade I didn’t on this car with the bigger tires? Yes I used the same driveshaft and differentials. The pinion is a 16t 0.6 MOD. Has to be the .6 MOD. Hot racing has one on Amazon usually but it’s sold out at the moment.
The Yoncher YC400 seems to be the exact same truck. Have you ever compared the two to check for subtle differences? On Amazon, the YC400 is only $86.39! I’m concerned there may be imperceptible differences that make it inferior, but maybe not. Thoughts?
Yes the Yoncher yc400 is the same! I haven’t yet got it to check but I do also have the Flyhal fc610, which is also the same and it does seem to actually be exactly the same. Still super durable, so I’d say the Yoncher is a safe bet!
