Thank you for taking the time to deep dive into the some of the best budget RC's! I bought an HBX 2995 based on your experience with it. It is much more stable than my brushless 1/16 Hyper Go. I ordered a HW Max10 140a ESC and a $19 Gool RC 540 motor to wake it up a bit. I went with a bigger ESC so I could swap it to an MT10 Rival (another truck for which you have made some excellent videos!) later on. Looking forward to watching your 3s video on the 2995!

In one of your videos it would be cool if you did a 3 to 5 minute segment on pinion gear pullers. I recently bought a $10 puller from Amazon. Today i got a used Bezgar 1, but its actually different from their newer hm101, it looks the same but it has covers on the chassis, 5 wire servo, and a 490 motor, but the motor is on the opposite side, so not all parts are interchangeable it seems, with all these "sub-brands" its making getting parts alot more complicated. What would u recommend we order for those top & bottom caps breaking,..to have some more flexible spares? Would u recommend a link for caps off the pX toys stock caps? Thanks for listing out the other items!
So far my only solution has been to use the Pxtoys caps. I don’t think I’ve broken one of those yet. Here’s a link to a set of all 4 shocks. I don’t believe they sell the individual parts. Hope this helps!amzn.to/3HZMDfx
You got me spending too much money! Lol. In one of your videos, you talk about mitigating chassis slap. I got the shocks you linked. Are these wheels the fix for the slapping?
I’ve tried imagining where one could go and the spot that broke encompasses the steering linkage and makes it more difficult, but I haven’t finished trying
Thanks!! Stock motor should probably handle these tires, but not for too long as it would definitely heat it up quicker. This RC probably performs very well in the sand, however I’ve actually had someone tell me that sand got into the gears and messed it keep it all up,
Mainly electronics and tires. I showed most of it in this video, which was before the one you commented on: ruclips.net/video/mR1UHzx-lJQ/видео.htmlsi=P0ef2UiVYTIT7ulw
Nice jumps good air control but you going to neet some stronger shocks. I have a jlb cheetah and the shocks suck now but I don’t now what olie to put in can you help me thx
Thanks. Yes I agree I need stronger shocks. I’m getting ready to experiment with shock oils in the cheetah. Probably going to try 100 wt and see how it goes
I just bought this buggy per your recommendation. If you only had $50 worth of upgrades you could do, what would you do to it? I plan on upgrading more later
I really like the Hobbywing motor so save that for when you can swing it. So with that said, I guess I’d start with the shocks. Then wheels motor/esc, pinion, and transmitter. Glad you liked my recommendation. It really is awesome!
Those shocks already come with fluid in them and it’s really thick. It all depends on how the shock is manufactured and these specific shocks feel like they have roughly 30,000 wt in them. Which won’t work well in most shocks lol.
Dude that's a beast. Can't wait to do mine qhen I get home. How tall is the 30 degree ramp? And also how tall and long is the double sidded ramp? I build a 45 at 28inches tall but at 30 degree whether it's super dangerous for all my cars lol
Thanks!! If I remember right, my 45 ramp is 24” tall. The 30” is 2-3” shorter I think. Here’s the video on the ramp build. I’m pretty sure I talk about sizes.ruclips.net/video/9E3rVUqnNwc/видео.html No matter the ramp, I always kill my cars 🤣 That 2995 is sometimes an exception lol
@Derby City RC well that's the wrong link. Lol but you did say 16.5 My 45 is 28 high lol. Ima build the 30 at 18. To use it during winter and try ti avoid carnage in cold. And the double sided at 12. I can't wait to get home and run them things all I can think of ia if I can jump the pool lol
Killer build, looking for the perfect cheep basher for my Kids. FC610 has been on list since my 1/16 scale trucks can't handle the back yard grass very well. The HBX body is a lot cooler for the little guys.
Yes it is! Absolutely love it! Haiboxing-hobby.com has the parts for it. You may need to hit the contact button and send them an email with the part number you need if it’s not listed on the site yet.
Here is a comparable motor combo, however I don’t believe the esc will fit like the Hobbywing does. Just need to mount it ontop of the servo or the upper chassis brace. amzn.to/41BOCyE
@@DerbyCityRC I love that you replied. Thank you so much. My daughters and I have enjoyed watching your channel and are having fun breaking things and repairing them.
Hey, I've been using the DeeRC 9200 platform (same setup as your) and looking to upgrade to another playform. The Hosim 9156 with the front/back metal skid plates? Any eperience with that platform versus the HBX 2995?
Ya your 9200 would be the same as my two Holyton 9205E cars. The HBXs seem to be holding up better than those. I’ve been thinking about getting a Hosim, but no experience with them yet. So far, I think this 2995 is the most durable car I have. Plus it’s very stable and controllable with the right tires.
@@DerbyCityRC question, my end caps off the shocks has broken after a few big jumps. 😅 do you know witch replacement parts I can get? Have the same banggood shocks you recommended.
These are the shocks that I used the new top pieces as replacements. Perfect fit and more flexible so don’t break as easy. You can use the bottom eyelets too but I think I remember had to drill them out just a bit.amzn.to/3loxRpS
I’ve gotten my parts from Haiboxing-hobby.com. If whatever parts you need are not listed, just hit the contact button on the website and they can get it for you.
Question: does this style of body, with interior limiting space inside, causes higher temps of electronics, or is it completely irrelevant and air is finding way in there and providing sufficient cooling?
I believe the little driver dudes are removable with a couple screws, however you could always cut them out. But the motor I used really doesn’t get too hot, so I don’t think it matters much. Maybe on 3s or with a cheaper motor it might.
I’m thinking about getting this car but I’d like to ask right quick, what are the size of the shocks you used? Or maybe even what is the size of the ones that were previously on there. Getting good suspension will make or break getting this car.
I have the actual shocks I used in a link in the video description, along with all parts I used and the truck itself. They are roughly 78mm from upper to lower mount holes. I think it’s an awesome set up!
Do you think these tires may be probably "too grippy"? Im just wondering how these tires perform on the road or dirt wondering if it flips easily because of the big grooves they have. In my opinion these look the sicckest.. but i like how my 2995 drifts on the road when i turn with speed and doesnt flip. Thanks in advanced man!
Ya know I can’t remember. This was over a year ago now I think and I haven’t had a chance to run it much since (soon enough though!) I too like my cars to slide around so I feel like I would have mentioned or remembered if they were too grippy. Have you seen this video? Maybe it will give a bit more insight. Same tires on basically the same car. ruclips.net/video/MxPdhiDYsHk/видео.html
@@DerbyCityRC Oh yes i've seen all you videos man, when you pop a new one its like christmas xD. I just rewatched it and it seems a little flippy when turning so im going with others of same size but less aggressive thread. One more thing. Can you help me find the correct pinion for the brushless conversion? The link in your video for the 16t is out of stock. Thanks in advanced!
That’s awesome to hear!! 😊 I noticed that pinion is out of stock. And I checked a few more websites and no luck! It’s out of stock on occasion so just keep checking back and it will probably return 👍 hopefully soon!!!
Unfortunately, I can’t send the link, because you need to contact the company through their website, Haiboxing-hobby.com with the part that you need. Are you able to find the part numbers in the owners manual?
Dude, I’ve responded to all of your questions! Check your email or your previous comment replies! I believe I got 37 mph on 2s but forgot to record it so I’ll be making that video soon. It’s a total beast!! Lol!
What are the differences bn the 2995, 903a, and the HyperGo H16BM (besides the brushless motor on the latter two)? Which of these do you recommend? Has the 2995 been upgraded since this video came out 10 mos ago, and if so, do you recommend the upgraded version?
I have not upgraded the 2995 any further than it is here. Out of those 3 I definitely recommend the 2995 and upgraded like I did in this video. I don’t have the 903a, but I do have the 903, which is the brushed version. They’re all different. The HyperGo is of course smaller and the 2995, I believe, the the most durable of them all. Plus has a center differential.
@@DerbyCityRC Yes, your video on this and highlighting the Ctr Diff has sold me on the 2995. I have played with rc car toys before, but this will be the first legit rc car for me. I’m looking forward to it. It seems you guys have a lot of fun with them. Your son cracks me up!Keep up the good work! So, it sounds like HBX doesn’t offer an upgraded version (brushless, all aluminum shocks, carbon or metal base)?
Thanks man, that’s great to hear! They don’t have an upgraded version yet. Supposedly one is coming but it was though to be released like 6 months ago and I’ve asked and haven’t gotten no answers yet.
Hell yeah dude!! I've searched far and wide for an actually decent and durable true budget rc and I think I finally found one thanks to this video!!! That Thang double backflips, front flips, is fast!! Give it to me now! 🔫😷😈🤣
Haha! Absolutely love this car! Glad you found it! Be sure to check out the links I put in the description for that truck and all the upgrade parts!! Thanks for watching!!
He just spent about $80 on broken parts in the video alone!!! What!? this is not really budget, he's nickel and dime'in the parts on this car. the motor is $100.,, tires 40, adding up quick. I gotta say some guys love to keep fixing them and calling it FUN!
Always depends on what you’re comparing it to, but this will outperform and take more abuse than most anything else in its price range. Keep in mind batteries and basic charger are included with this one. I see your point though. I chose to use higher quality electronics on this, but you could always use a cheaper electronics package. Some people do actually enjoy the repairs.
just got the 3s upgraded with 3650 brushless 4200kv. way too fast on flat pavement. had to move the battery to the front because it is a wheely riding beast. can't even imagine if it was 6s. had to do some mod to fit the esc into the battery slot. might do a 4s upgrade when the esc takes a dump.
Great vid! Seems you can't get this model on Banggood but the Flyhal FC610 is basically the same but with oil filled shocks. Do you reckon it is a better starting point than the 901a, then upgrade to brushless for about the same total cost? Looks like it will take more of a beating
Thanks!! Yes I do believe this is a bit more Robust than the 901a. I’ve broken the chassis on both of them, but it was cold outside those days. I do not believe the 901 would have handled as well as this one. Are you unable to order from my Amazon links? I know you can’t always get it in every location.
@@DerbyCityRC I'm not in US, so I ordered the FC610 from BG - I tried to use one of your affiliate links so hopefully you get a kick-back. Should be lots of fun, looks like a solid truck for the price and easy to do a brushless upgrade.
Thanks I appreciate that! The Flyhal looks like an even better deal. I personally like the 2995 body better, but the flyhal comes with oil shocks already (hopefully they’re decent) and bigger tires! I’m sure you’ll love it!!
I probably will. I noticed that the knuckles are less robust on the 901a, I have broken one already, plus 3 knuckles on the 903, which of course are the same part. I have a feeling it will not handle them quite as well but would be worth the fun
Hard to say what would be best for your first RC. The 16889a pro is a bit harder to control because it’s smaller and faster. The 2995 isn’t very quick right out of the box but definitely still fun and easy to learn on. You could always upgrade the 2995 once you started getting better. I have the most fun with the upgraded 2995, but in stock form, the 16889 is awesome! If you plan on jumping, out of the box, the 16889 is more controllable in the air. You can’t go wrong either way.
Hey thought I'd comment so I could reach you, i have a couple questions when it comes to durability, I recently bought the jlb cheetah, 120amp version and with my first run I blew apart both rear wheels at the same time and aswell as snapping a front axel. I happend to order the same wheels you have and I have already fixed the axel and decided Im not going to run it until I put the alluminum renforcment bars in and I made them already and now waiting for wheels. I was wondering since you do break it alot, how many hours do you get on the differencals before they blow up and what are you doing to break them so fast? I'm just scared to dump money into this thing so I want to know how gentle I need to drive it so it's not always breaking, i can't tell if it's as fragile as glass or if you just run it hard. Am I going to break it jumping it a little and landing on grass or Will it even break just driving around. Anyways I appreciate it!
Thanks for commenting! Those aluminum bars helped big time! I’m hoping the new bearings help keep the front diff lasting longer, cuz improbably got less than 2 hours of run time out of it after the first repair (that’s with constant big jumps and crashes). It will probably last much longer with smaller jumps and especially landing on grass. The more you land it square on the wheels, the better. I think it breaks too easily in general, but also think it breaks more because I drive it hard. That red control arm holder that I have in the front is a big help too! It’s linked on a video or two as well. Hope that helps!
Great video! I'm on my 2nd brushless combo in a similar truck (Bezgar HB101) and I just wanted to know if you ever did any speed runs on your conversions? I wanted to do the HW conversion, but my local hobby shop steered me in going with a Spektrum combo which is great btw. I'd like to get these same wheels, but I wasn't sure how much they slowed it down or if they put too much of a strain on the motor. Thanks!
Thanks!! I’ve looked at spectrum before. Have it on my Kraton. I’m sure I’ll get a smaller one for another car soon! These wheels don’t seem to slow this car at all with the 3300kv. And like Mentioned in the video, the motor stayed relatively cool and didn’t feel strained one bit. No cogging either!
What were the rear & front diffs like.? Did they last long.? Especially with those heavy 130mm tyres on it.! Diffs are my biggest gripe & first concern when it comes to any RC.. I HATE messing around replacing diffs.! I like Hobao for their philosophy of making a diff last the life of the RC (under reasonable running), other bigger manufacturers could do well to learn from them.! 😂 Awesome video mate.!👍 👍 👍 ♥ ♥ ♥. It’s a top contender with the Kraton and the MT10. All good in they’re own way. By far my favorite “build,” but too close to call between this and the other two. However with the Kraton it took over $600 in upgrades alone to make it a good competitor lol.

You got me spending too much money! Lol. In one of your videos, you talk about mitigating chassis slap. I got the shocks you linked. Are these wheels the fix for the slapping?
Haha! I know the feeling lol These wheels don’t taKe the slap away completely, but since they’re so big and squishy, they do seem to help a lot.
I have seen Mental chassis plates what do you think
I’ve tried imagining where one could go and the spot that broke encompasses the steering linkage and makes it more difficult, but I haven’t finished trying
Hey man! What type of oil do you recommend putting inside the diffs? Should I put inside the front middle and rear ones?
So I go over a lot of that stuff in here and you can see the difference it makes: ruclips.net/video/as1Lp7Y3kxY/видео.html
I used 100k in the center
Great video bro question can the stock engine handle those big tires and can you run this rc in the sand.
Thanks!!
Stock motor should probably handle these tires, but not for too long as it would definitely heat it up quicker. This RC probably performs very well in the sand, however I’ve actually had someone tell me that sand got into the gears and messed it keep it all up,
Will the stock motor be able to push those bigger tires without issue?
People ask this a lot. I wish I had checked but I just don’t know. Probably can, but may get pretty hot
What were the actual upgrades made?
@@DerbyCityRC ok let me now how that 100 Wt is going to do it’s job 💪🏼
Yup! I’ll have a video on it for sure. I have a few other things going first, but wanting to get to the cheetah soon!
@@DerbyCityRC can’t wait notifications are on for sure
Awesome! I can’t wait either!
Where do you get your replacement parts for your 2995?
Haiboxing-hobby.com
I just bought this buggy per your recommendation. If you only had $50 worth of upgrades you could do, what would you do to it? I plan on upgrading more later
I really like the Hobbywing motor so save that for when you can swing it. So with that said, I guess I’d start with the shocks. Then wheels motor/esc, pinion, and transmitter. Glad you liked my recommendation. It really is awesome!
What oil are you running in the shocks?
I’m pretty sure I talk about sizes.ruclips.net/video/9E3rVUqnNwc/видео.html
No matter the ramp, I always kill my cars 🤣
That 2995 is sometimes an exception lol
@Derby City RC well that's the wrong link. Lol but you did say 16.5
My 45 is 28 high lol.
Ima build the 30 at 18. To use it during winter and try ti avoid carnage in cold.
And the double sided at 12.
I can't wait to get home and run them things all I can think of ia if I can jump the pool lol
lol woops. I guess you found it then?
Ya it’s sooo fun! Lol
Killer build, looking for the perfect cheep basher for my Kids. FC610 has been on list since my 1/16 scale trucks can't handle the back yard grass very well. The HBX body is a lot cooler for the little guys.
Thanks!
Ya you found it! This car along with the upgrades is epic! Ya I like the HBX body over the fc610 too.
That thing is a beast. I just got mine few days ago. What site do you use for spare parts?
Yes it is! Absolutely love it!
Haiboxing-hobby.com has the parts for it. You may need to hit the contact button and send them an email with the part number you need if it’s not listed on the site yet.
Amazon no have tires or esc combo...any comparable suggestions. Also what do you search for when looking for the biggest battery that will fit?
Here’s the same tires under a different name: amzn.to/3tE3vny
Here is a comparable motor combo, however I don’t believe the esc will fit like the Hobbywing does. Just need to mount it ontop of the servo or the upper chassis brace. amzn.to/41BOCyE
@@DerbyCityRC I love that you replied. Thank you so much. My daughters and I have enjoyed watching your channel and are having fun breaking things and repairing them.
Any servo recs for this hbx?
Hey, I've been using the DeeRC 9200 platform (same setup as your) and looking to upgrade to another playform. The Hosim 9156 with the front/back metal skid plates? Any eperience with that platform versus the HBX 2995?
Ya your 9200 would be the same as my two Holyton 9205E cars. The HBXs seem to be holding up better than those. I’ve been thinking about getting a Hosim, but no experience with them yet. So far, I think this 2995 is the most durable car I have. Plus it’s very stable and controllable with the right tires.
You're making me want to buy one of these!
Lol Everyone needs to get one! 😂
Did you maintain led lighting in you 2995 desert truck? If so how?
Unfortunately I did not maintain the lighting. The ESC I used does not have a place to plug it in.
@@DerbyCityRC ok thanks man!
You’re welcome!
Prety cool. Wich shock upgrade??
Finally got all parts added in the description! I’ve got these shocks on 4 cars now. I like them a lot.👍👍
@@DerbyCityRC 👍👍👍
@@DerbyCityRC question, my end caps off the shocks has broken after a few big jumps. 😅 do you know witch replacement parts I can get? Have the same banggood shocks you recommended.
These are the shocks that I used the new top pieces as replacements. Perfect fit and more flexible so don’t break as easy. You can use the bottom eyelets too but I think I remember had to drill them out just a bit.amzn.to/3loxRpS
Where did you get your front axle for the 2995. I can't find them anywhere
I’ve gotten my parts from Haiboxing-hobby.com. If whatever parts you need are not listed, just hit the contact button on the website and they can get it for you.
How much do you think the weight from the spare wheel helps it doing backflips so easily?
I don’t think it helps much. Pretty sure an ant could carry that wheel lol. It does front flips easily too 😄
Question: does this style of body, with interior limiting space inside, causes higher temps of electronics, or is it completely irrelevant and air is finding way in there and providing sufficient cooling?
I believe the little driver dudes are removable with a couple screws, however you could always cut them out.
But the motor I used really doesn’t get too hot, so I don’t think it matters much. Maybe on 3s or with a cheaper motor it might.
Awesome upgrades bro, I'd do all that to it too exept bash it like that lol 👀👍
Thanks!
I noticed that pinion is out of stock. And I checked a few more websites and no luck!
It’s out of stock on occasion so just keep checking back and it will probably return 👍 hopefully soon!!!
Can someone send me the link where they sell the differential and gears of this car? please! I really appreciate your collaboration.👍

Unfortunately, I can’t send the link, because you need to contact the company through their website, Haiboxing-hobby.com with the part that you need. Are you able to find the part numbers in the owners manual?
Dude, what’s the top speed you got from this car?
What battery do you use?
This one right here: amzn.to/3WJHk8k
Yup I’m sure that thing is pushing 50 on 2s!
Great vid! Seems you can't get this model on Banggood but the Flyhal FC610 is basically the same but with oil filled shocks. Do you reckon it is a better starting point than the 901a, then upgrade to brushless for about the same total cost? Looks like it will take more of a beating
Thanks!! Yes I do believe this is a bit more
Robust than the 901a.
I’m sure you’ll love it!!
does that have a center diff
Yes it does! My favorite “cheap-ish” basher!
good job on the video, very good stuff,
Thanks buddy!! Been liking all your Kraton and xmaxx content!
That was brutal!
Extremely!! And she took it!!
@@DerbyCityRC yeah, I'm impressed with that. This new wheels seem work well, and they look awesome too. You should test them on the 901.
I probably will. I noticed that the knuckles are less robust on the 901a, I have broken one already, plus 3 knuckles on the 903, which of course are the same part. I have a feeling it will not handle them quite as well but would be worth the fun
I can't decide between this or the HBX 16889A Pro. This will be my first rc. Which one would you recommend?
Hard to say what would be best for your first RC. The 16889a pro is a bit harder to control because it’s smaller and faster. The 2995 isn’t very quick right out of the box but definitely still fun and easy to learn on. You could always upgrade the 2995 once you started getting better. I have the most fun with the upgraded 2995, but in stock form, the 16889 is awesome! If you plan on jumping, out of the box, the 16889 is more controllable in the air. You can’t go wrong either way.
@@DerbyCityRC I got the 2995. I think it be easier to learn on. Plus I can upgrade it when I'm ready.
I agree completely! Can’t go wrong either way, but I think you made the best choice!
@@DerbyCityRC yes thank you I really appreciate it. I'll probably order a couple pinion and ring gears just as backup.
And bearings 😉😉
@@DerbyCityRC oh yeah that too😂

And like

Somewhat yes. Even though it’s bigger, I think it’s actually just as tough so far.

Did they last long.?
Especially with those heavy 130mm tyres on it.!
Diffs are my biggest gripe & first concern when it comes to any RC.. I HATE messing around replacing diffs.!

It’s a top contender with the Kraton and the MT10. All good in they’re own way. By far my favorite “build,” but too close to call between this and the other two. However with the Kraton it took over $600 in upgrades alone to make it a good competitor lol.
