  • What Is A Resonator Delete? Wonder no more! I go over the details regarding what a resonator is, what it does, and if a resonator delete is right for you!
    What is a resonator delete? This part is pretty straight forwards, it is when you remove the resonator from the exhaust system in your car! But why remove it?
    Subscribe for more cool car content! / @burningrubber416
    I start by explaining what a Resonator is and how it is constructed. I go over the perforated pipe and metal chamber arrangement, with some material in-between for extra resonance.
    Why do we have Resonators? As a result of consumer demand for quieter cars. Quietness is also related to how luxurious a car feels, pushing manufacturers to make their cars as quiet as possible. This was achieved using mufflers. However, mufflers introduce a lot of resistance in the exhaust system which leads to less power and less gas mileage from the car. Engineers needed a device that would make the car quieter as well as not restrict the flow. In comes the Resonator!
    I explain why you should not remove your resonator unless you are planning on getting a full custom exhaust!

      A res delete won't give you drone at motorway speeds

    • @TheElantra
      @TheElantra Год назад

      A muffler delete will give you drone. resonator actually makes your car sound aggressive with gurgles an pops. However, it also depends on the car. What you could do is, delete the res, then test drive it for a day an decide from there. You may b better off just deleting the res and not the muffler. or install a new type of muffler to keep the drone noise out but still sound aggressive with the res delete.
      I cut my muffler off few weeks ago and all i get is turned heads because it sounds amazing when the drone doesnt kick in. In fact, my car sounds expensive until you look at it, then youll just think i have something crazy under my hood. Very unique exhaust tone it gives off.

      I had a hole in my resonator. Replaced with straight pipe. Highway drone is super annoying. Also caused havoc with all my electronic sensors. Car would jump out of overdrive to 3rd gear on highway at 65 mph and 2500 rpm. To 3rd gear and 4300 rpm. Perhaps a minute later will go back to overdrive.

  • @stuart488
    @stuart488 2 года назад +12

    What I learned was I’m still doing a resonator delete on my v8 since I want to hear it a bit more at lower rpm but don’t want it to be too aggressive either. The drone reduction you talk about a resonator eliminating on the highway at 2-3000rpm must be vehicle specific because my 10 speed only revs at 1300-1500 on the highway so even an aggressive exhaust doesn’t really drone unless you are towing a very heavy load. Good advice in theory and concept of how the resonator is designed in general though, thanks.

    Delete resonator make your car feeling racing.. but you must change your mufler to make more loud. Actuali not too noise on low rpm. Noise coming if we kick in the pedal deep. And more noise if rpm more high. In performance acceleration more agresif in low rpm. On hi rpm there is little diferent

    One very important thing to note regarding this video and the recommendation to not get a delete is that what is said about drone is NOT true for ALL makes and models. Some, yes, will drone. Others may not.
    I say this as I saw this video today, coincidentally after I made the call for my shop to remove my resonator and replace with straight pipe. I made this call not because I thought it would sound cool or be awesome, but because my resonator split and the after market is on national back order for my model (late model Taurus). So I decided to save the time and money.
    Turns out it was an awesome decision. The tone is excellent and there’s zero drone. My exhaust also did get louder.
    So to say don’t do it because of drone, is not the best advice. Because that advice is wrong for some model cars. Granted my shop noted that mine turned out really well and that some GM models end up sounding goofy afterward.
    Best bet would be to call a reputable shop (or muffler shop) and ask if they’ve removed the resonator for your exact make / model and ask how it turned out.
    Just my thoughts. The video explanation of all else is great!

      Tim thank you so much for your kind words! You are absolutely correct, some Subarus with flat plane engines also sound different with the resonator. You are totally correct in what you’re saying, some cars will actually sound a little better without the resonator, however it is a little bit of a gamble, always best to do research first! Thank you for your comment, I will make a follow up video and explain more about this! Cheers 🍻

      @@BurningRubber416 No worries man! I actually found this video so I could actually explain what the resonator does in more detail when I was talking with my fiancé. We’re both technical people and I know a fair amount about cars and such - you tend to when your last car was a junker. So I really like the way you explained everything.
      But yeah, I just wanted to throw my experience out there because I know there are some folks that do like to experiment - especially with their exhaust, who might be turned away - when it actually could work out for them.
      Part of me also wonders how much the size of the engine plays in how it sounds. I would think that the higher the cylinder count, the more throaty and natural sounding (nice, for simplicity) the car would sound afterward. But eh, who knows!

      Will not screw your car, you need a tune to get the most out of your downpipe, contrary to popular belief a catless downpipe actually stays cooler than a catalytic converted would because there is less restriction, so technically a catless car would be safer in a bush 😉

    • @BurningRubber416

      Yes, aftermarket mufflers are much less baffled, so the noise increase will be more noticeable when you remove the resonator

      Check engine light will not come on, as for voiding warranty you’d have to contact a dealer anonymously and ask, some will allow it. Keep the resonator for when you want to put it back on

    Thanks man. I have muffler delete on my genesis but its not loud enough. I put my new intake on and a new blowoff valve. The spool of the tirbo is now louder than my exhaust and it sounds funny. I just need the ass end of the car to to louder. Do u have any advice on getting my car tuned?

    • @BurningRubber416
      @BurningRubber416  3 года назад

      I would recommend a catless or high flow catted DP - this mod adds the most power and I’m sure you know you NEED a downpipe in order to get tuned- it will also make your car louder :)
