I will set you a real challenge do a video on a foodstamp budget about $150 a month for everything. It can be done. Not everyone has the extra cash to buy in bulk but you can buy bulk at cheaper stores. What might help it to realize people are really struggling and dont have your money. Buying storage containers is a waste of money reuse old jars etc from products you have bought like pickles and pasta sauce. No need to purchase famcy containers

Great advice about the Mediterranean diet. I am definitely going to start that again. I lived in Tunisia for 5 months and my twenties. And I remember I lost 30 lb and I didn't even dye it. Because the food was fresh from the market every day. And delicious. And we would have fresh baguette bread with lunch every day.
Thank you for the money. Saving advice right now is a great time for budgeting!

I live in the Caribbean, St Lucia to be exact, and the cost of living is extremely high. Most of the veges in your recipes that we have here are imported and super expensive. For that reason we are limited on adding variety to our meals which are usually more starch based because that's what we have more of; ground provisions. Yes we're a farming island but not much variety.
So in as much as most times we want to change our way of eating, the cost to do so is a deterrent ( although of late I've said to myself that yes, eating healthy is expensive, but cost of sickness is even more expensive), so I have decided that I'll do my best to buy the necessary items even if it's once a week.
Thanks for your indepth teachings, very encouraging.

I Love this video topic. Besides saving money, I would highly appreciate videos on Mediterranean time saving/ bulk cooking recipes. I have searched all over for these types of videos, however they are always meat heavy or dairy heavy, and I need to avoid these as much as possible. I want to have a nice amount of lower cost healthy Mediterranean recipes that I can batch cook/ bulk cook and possibly freeze or cook in a crockpot, etc. I think this would be such a great help to those who need to save time and still eat well. Thank you for this great channel. Tamara

Great video, Bill! I love your humor. Great tips too. Unfortunately rural areas like where I live don't have international stores (not even Aldi) or Whole Foods type stores. But we do have Amish stores and I recently realized they sell pantry staples in bulk much cheaper than at big box stores. Add Amish stores to your list for us country folk ! :D

In this summer we've been having I often create a mixed bean salad with tomatoes and herbs such as parsley or coriander you could also add chorizo to that or anchovies, feta and olives but Mediterranean Living has lots of recipes on their website. Go to Mediterraneanliving.com, then select the 3 lines, top right of the screen, then select recipes and in the search bar enter beans, you'll then see that lots of recipes appear i.e beans and tuna salad or black eyed beans and avocado salad. There are also hot dishes if you want them too. Enjoy!

Nice! We already do some of these. We're fortunate that we have a Greek market and a Greek wholesale warehouse near us where we can get olives, olive oil, feta, seasonings, etc. I also buy a lot of produce at our local farmers market. Where we're definitely falling short is in our kitchen implements. A thrift store might be a place to pick these things up.

Beans, I'm new with, I don't really mess with them but gonna try it anyway. I had a question about olive oil. They seem to use a lot of it at one time. How do you know if it's authentic olive oil and not the bullcrap the U.S. wants us to believe it is? I use olive oil all the time anyways but not as much as the Mediterranean diet suggested.

      Simple & Healthy Hummus Recipe:
      - 1-150z can chickpeas
      - 2 tbsp olive oil
      - 1 juice of a lemon
      - 1/4 cup tahini
      - 1 tbsp cumin (to taste)

      - 1 tsp paprika (optional)
      Optional flavors:
      - 1 clove garlic
      - 2 fire-roasted red peppers
      - Jalapeno and cilantro
      - Or substitute chickpeas for black beans
Drain the chickpeas and place them in a food processor along with all of the ingredients (including the optional flavors).
