I've been to Greece this summer. We were lucky to find a tiny village with a restaurant in the village square. The lady who ran the place didn't even have a menu. She would cook something every morning and let you choose from her dishes what you wanted to eat. Everything that she prepared was made with ingredients from her garden and was simple and delicious. Fun fact: she was 70 but looked no older than 50👏😍 I shall remember that lunch for a long time!

In greece, menus are only really a thing when you go to the americanized places or the super upscale places. In my village in southern Albania, we know the owners of the 2 restaurants there and they will let you know what they're making for lunch&dinner ahead of time. It's just a different culture, as a result of the homogenous culture. Everybody eats the same things

Alberta Canada, I was told that it needed to be cold pressed as heat pressed makes it carcinogenic. I just use cold pressed extra virgin olive oil in my food and on my body as moisturizing. I am 68 years old and have beautiful skin. I do not use any makeup. I also do not take any medication and I am very healthy. I just came upon your tube. Thanks

My mother
passed away at 96 slim lady till the end .But we do not ever eat snacks between the 3 meals . And don't forget to walk a lot .😊

I’m Australian and we have a similar problem as the US with regards to adulterated olive oil (honey too it turns out). I buy Australian grown and 1st cold pressed olive oil that I am very confident isn’t adulterated. I wonder if that isn’t as good as a Mediterranean type though? Our climate can be very similar to the Mediterranean (depending on the exact region)…
I also cook almost exclusively with olive oil I just don’t like the smell and taste of any other oil. They all have a chemical smell to me. I’m glad that I haven’t been wrong to do that.
I suffer from chronic illness and am now looking to turn to this diet. I am excited (and nervous) to get started and am glad to have found your channel.

    • @Mediterraneanliving
      @Mediterraneanliving  2 года назад +1

This is a great question. My guess is that the olive oil in Australia, as long as it is very good quality, is as good as olive oil in the Mediterranean.

@@Mediterraneanliving thank you so much for replying :)
I actually just tried 1/2 teaspoon neat and it tasted fruity then a few seconds later there was a mild peppery taste and burn to the throat. So I take that as a good sign!
Any Aussies also watching, the oil I have is Red Island extra virgin olive oil. I buy it from Woolworths and typically aim to buy two bottles when on sale to save money as it is more expensive that most other olive oils. If anyone else knows of another good one, please share :)

If I made this without the orange would it significantly change anything? I personally just really can't stand orange flavor, but everything else about this soup looks amazing

It is a big shift for most people to add lots of olive oil. All studies are showing that this is not only incredibly healthy for you, but it also helps with weight loss and inflammation. Give it a try!

How much does geographical climate play into health and longevity? Because every blue zone location, has perfect weather year round- I didn’t clue in to the link until you mentioned Finland, which is a completely different climate zone (not going to stop me from trying this diet for my health, but this might help me talk my husband into moving 😁)

Generally speaking, studies have shown that people who eat Mediterranean have the same benefits no matter where they live. One of the Blue Zones is in Pennsylvania which is definitely a cold climate like ours in New England. Getting year round fresh vegetables is usually the issue in cold climates.

This is a wonderful channel. Question: What do you say to some people who say beans and bread are inflammatory?

For some people bread is inflammatory. As far as beans, I will make another video about that.

@@Mediterraneanliving Being diabetic I would need bread made with maybe chia flour and black bean or pea pasta, but otherwise recipes are great. Thank you so much.

Oh, I just found you and see you haven’t posted for a year, hope is all well. I stumbled across you here on RUclips. I’m a vegetarian and going to use your tips more in the future. It’ll be difficult with my husband the carnivore tho.
