    I’ve had straightening treatments twice and my hair is NOT falling out because of it. I have gone through 4 different hair shedding/falling phases in my life, and it has everything to do with vitamins and minerals in your body. I was anemic in high school/early college years and my hair was falling out in clumps.. I could see it going nearly bald at my temples and I had had enough! (I don’t naturally have thin hair, I have thick curly hair with A LOT of volume and body. “My crowning glory” was falling out and I was so depressed..) twice I had postpartum hair fall which is pretty common after birth. And this last year I have fallen back into anemia and my hair was falling like crazy. Straightening doesn’t help in that it accentuates thinning hair, but isn’t necessarily the cause. When I have curls in my thin hair, it appears thick and full, but straightening it makes it look thin and flat... the key for reversing my hair loss is taking a daily supplement, and eating a balanced whole food diet. (I focus my supplements on iron, b complex, and vit D3; if I’m not taking those three, then I’m taking a multi.) my goal is to raise my iron levels to a normal level, and since taking it daily, my hair has slowed its shedding and I’m seeing regrowth which is a very good sign. Women are more susceptible to anemia from low iron due to menstruation, and that seems to be my personal issue. If you have tested for what your deficient in, I’m curious if you also are deficient in D, iron, and the B complex... this is just my experience though. If you find this helpful in any way, I’m glad. I struggle with this too (I know there are many women and men who struggle with thinning hair).

      Thank you for taking the time to comment! You're actually 100% right, a couple weeks before I made this video I got my blood tested and i'm super anemic and iron deficient, as well as low on b12 and D. So it makes a lot of sense now, the straightening didn't cause my hair loss, and I mention that in the video, but I just think it emphasized it and damaged the length more than I would've liked :( a combination of vitamin deficiency as well as stress I think is the root cause. Im definitely going to start looking into taking some multi vitamins because I want to solve it asap! Are there any you can recommend?

    • @rebekah2602
      @rebekah2602 4 года назад +3

      I take supermarket vitamins; I’ve spent quite a bit on “high-end”, and I don’t really see a difference to be honest.. if you’re really worried about all the added stuff in vitamin supplements (fillers etc), then try more natural supplements from a health food vitamin shop. You may want to do some research on types of vitamins, because that does make a difference in absorption, or so I’ve seen. They say the best kind of vitamin D is D3, not D2; I take 25mcg (1000iu) D3. Check the labels carefully to make sure what forms your getting. I purchased 65mg iron(equates to 325mg as ferrous sulfate) natures bounty brand because of a great deal at my local store B1G1free. I also take a high potency B complex: features B1, B2, niacin, B6, folate, and B12. You don’t need to go crazy on taking HUGE amounts past the recommended dosages per day.. I know of a lot of people who drown themselves and take way too much; it isn’t exactly helpful, and it can be more harmful than helpful. Take them regularly/daily and with food and that should be sufficient to bring up your levels. Avoid coffee, tea and alcohol and too much calcium a bit before or after taking, so that you get the best absorption. Food or drink with vitamin c like citrus helps to absorb iron better. I drink coffee in the morning, so I tend to take my supplements in the evening with dinner With a bit of water (hydration is SOOOOO important!). That’s all that’s really needed unless you have a medical reason that is at the cause of your deficiencies.. that needs to be addressed with your doctor, and they may have a different protocol than just supplements if they even want you to go that route. Ya know? I don’t have serious health issues, so taking daily supplements is working just fine accompanied with a clean diet and making sure to eat plenty of fruits and veggies. :) I do wish you the best, I know how it feels to worry about health and watching your body fall apart... it’s disheartening, but you’re taking some positive steps forward in addressing these things that seem abnormal.
      - p.s.
      I take “rainbow light” brand women’s 1 a day multi if I don’t take the other mixture. I took the prenatal version while pregnant because it was very easy on my stomach and didn’t cause me to throw up during my morning sickness in the early months. I stuck with the brand since, and I feel like they have the right amounts of most all vitamins if you need something in a pinch. Also, some believe that a multi is unproductive because some vitamins are known to compete for absorption, so they believe that it’s almost useless to take it (I’m not sure I completely agree that they are useless because you’re going to absorb something rather than nothing at all). Some have taken to purchasing individual vitamins and taking them at different times of the day so as to avoid this problem. That’s a lot more research and time consumed in getting a routine down around taking them. You would have to eat every single time you did that, and for me, that just cannot work. Like I said above, I drink coffee, and I don’t always eat breakfast until later... and sometimes I skip it because I’ve got a lot on my plate. So, again, you must do a little research and find what fits for you, and it doesn’t need to be overly complicated. I’m making it seem complicated, and that’s because there are SO many approaches to mending deficiencies. (I felt like I should be as transparent and thorough about many aspects so that you can approach this better informed. There isn’t just 1 right way for all.)

      Rebekah Tyrell I’m so sorry I could have swore I replied to this awhile ago! Thank you so much for all of the information, I actually ended up cutting most of my length so I can start growing out my natural texture. The stringiness was becoming unmanageable and I’m going to start implementing these methods so my natural hair can be as strong as possible. Really thank you for the insight! 😊

    Actually, Japanese hair straightening literally “melts” the hairs, then you shape it with heat to the desired... when the hairs are so soft and in a “squishy state”, when the iron is used to press hard and pull the iron down the hairs, that process stretches them longer. Then the neutralizer stops the “softening” process of the hairs, until it hardens during the next week...and when it’s fully hardened, it becomes vulnerable to being broken like a thin hard twig. And thus the hair fall, breakage, shedding, and thinning. The hairs are dead before and after the treatment, so it really doesn’t effect your follicles’ health.

    • @sarahkriisten
      @sarahkriisten  4 года назад +6

      Reading the process like that i definitely would've reconsidered ever getting it done, sounds so scary :( I guess for me it has the appearance of damage because the hair is so much thinner after the treatment, but my new growth/roots are healthy and fine. Not straight and silky like it used to be but i'd take that over damaged hair any day!

    • @okitkats3914
      @okitkats3914 3 года назад +15

      I'm sorry to tell you this but the reason that her hair is falling is not because of the treatment, it is because of the other factors she listed or a lack of aftercare. Getting the treatment itself is only half of the process, you have to keep up with your hair afterwards, (using more masks and products to keep it healthy.) Your hair doesn't fall out unless 1. it was already damaged before, 2. you went to a stylist that didn't know what you were doing or you did an at home kit or 3. you have other problems that led to hair loss (ex. stress, lack of vitamins) A lot of people have even said their hair has been healthier after the treatment because they haven't been using heat tools. Yes, it's a chemical treatment, it will cause some damage. But it's not gonna make all of your hair break off or fall off of your head, if it does it wasn't because of the treatment alone.

I do that every year and it only costs me 50$ usually range starts $50 to $150 and you can have it done at famous/luxurious salon in there. It last 1 to 2 yrs also depending on the type of your hair.

    • @sarahkriisten
      @sarahkriisten  4 года назад +1

      That would happen to me sometimes! Usually If I slept on it while it was still wet, or it didn't dry completely it would have a kink in the spot I would have it behind my ear. Because its been 6 months for you, maybe the waves you're seeing is your natural growth coming back? But If you want pin straight results I'd recommend to blowdry it on low heat just to smooth it out!

    • @sarahkriisten
      @sarahkriisten  4 года назад +5

      Hi! So because this treatment changes the chemical composition of your hair, it won't go back to being wavy/curly/frizzy at all. After you wash it for the first time after the recommended 78 hours, the treated hair remains straight until you either cut it off or grow it out! Every now and then if it's super humid it would frizz up the slightest but it stayed pin straight for the most part. Hope this helped! :)

    You are vitamin deficient and probably going through a shedding phase. They tend to happen with the majority of our hair every 3-5 years. Take a daily multivitamin. Don't coat your hair in thick coconut oil. Ask any hairstylist. Not good as its molecules are too thick to even penetrate the hair shaft, all it is, is a barrier. Not a moisturizer. It keeps whatever moisture is in the hair in, but if your hair lacks moisture.... It will only keep moisture OUT. Do hair masks, for dryness try hair cholesterol treatments (very inexpensive for a tub of it at any beauty supply) once a week is enough. Use a leave in conditioner to prevent anymore dryness. I love it's a 10 leave in conditioner spray. (Its a tad pricey) . As far as hair thinning, if Its due to normal shedding and vitamin deficiency you will see it come back to life soon 💖 it's smart to avoid any chemical treatments while your hair is in a weird state. Hope this helps 😊

      Cholesterol hair treatments are pretty great, i was actually rinsing one out as you replied 🤣 i do it once a week. Most of the time they are recommended to damaged/dry hair but those things are magic. I use a relatively cheap one by queen Helene. You can google it for reviews. Most people love them. I use them more as an attempt to help prevent split ends. My hair is about 24 inches long and I do my best to make sure i catch any splits and cut them or prevent by masking once a week. Also it's good in general to prevent dryness the winter weather can make happen. Also you get a tub of it and you dont need alot given your hair texture. It tends to last over a year for me and i only pay like $7 for mine. This saved my hair a few years ago before i knew more about hair and bleached my hair to GUM basically. I had to chop it to the top of my shoulders. Cholesterol was the only thing to help give my hair life again. Being that the treatment you had does damage hair, i figured it would help your hair feel more itself again. Hope it works out for you 💖💖💖
