I have three ego tools - blower, edger, trimmer and yet I’m still leaning towards the Toro - I like the steel deck better - probably simply what I’m used to and I like the personal pace technology - both quality products - I don’t mind having to change each wheel independently because I will do it once and forget it and I’m never cutting grass in the dark 😂
Just purchased the Toro yesterday. I mowed with it today. I love the build quality and the steel deck. The personal pace system makes mowing very easy. I still had 2 bars left on the battery after mowing my 1/2 acre lot. I put my old gas mower out at the curb when I was done. Not going back to gas again! It was refreshing to not stink like exhaust when I came inside.
Nice James congrats thank you so much for sharing that
I bought the Toro this weekend. The personal pace system is awesome. I don't mind setting each wheel height not a big deal as I have been doing that for the past 50 years. Cut quality is awesome. I got the 605 CFM blower and the mower for the same price as the the EGO mower alone. Got an extra battery with the blower 2.5 ah so combined with the 6.0 ah that came with the mower do the math 8.5 ah more juice than the EGO! And the kick butt 605 CFM blower was basically free compared to the having bought the EGO. No discounts on EGO at Ace. I used my military discount 10% at HD. Another big plus is if the EGO breaks you go down the road to the UPS store and ship and wait. If the Toro breaks I take it to my local toro dealer and get it back in a week or two. You support your local economy buying the Toro the folks at the Toro dealer live and work in your community. I have a Cub Cadet XT 50 and visit my local dealer for oil and filters. I plan to get the Toro stripe kit from my local Toro dealer. I have a Honda HRX 216 and this Toro has a comparable cut. Very impressed by the Toro!
Thanks Mike appreciate your point of view, we are all different and yes local support is a good thing for sure
If the charger is rated for 2A, since Power = voltage * current, so 2A * 60V = 120W. so your power meter matched the rating! Great vid thank you!
Thank you
Great job on this video. In this Head2Head comparison, I would choose the Ego mower. Longer warranty and battery life, plus the easy-to-use deck height feature on the Ego. These advantages alone, make the price difference a moot point to me. It would be nice if Ego batteries added a handle.
Thanks for watching Mark and for your comments 👍🏼
Made in China
Wow, what an in depth review and comparison. Super job! I would like to see how the Toro 60v "Super" Recycler compares. It would be more of a direct comparison-price wise. Just one point-you use the term motor when it should really be transmission.
Great review. Shows why EGO is the much smarter choice based on cutting performance, run time, battery technology and features.
Definitely a pretty solid machine , not perfect but pretty solid
Wow, thorough review! Thank you for taking the time to do this! I recently returned the the ego model with the 7.5 battery right under this xp model. Of the 3 ego mowers i have owned all of them leave many blades of uncut grass and it drives me absolutely insane! There just isn't enough lift and the blades are so thin and dull super quick. In addition, the self propelled on the ego has terrible placement as I am constantly hitting it by accident. Also, when you try to pull back on ego's self propelled it binded which is so annoying.
Nice review, I bought the EGO and love it! If you buy into the EGO system, trimers, blower etc. The charger will be a major pro because you can charge any of the EGO batteries at lighting speed. To me a lighter mower is easier to handle in the tighter areas. I love the fact that I can move the mover under power with the blade off, keeps my mower lines clean. Toro has always made a great product so it wouldn't be a bad choice if you only need a mower. But a 5 year warranty on the machine and the battery speaks tons for a company that is willing to stand behind their products. That's why I went with EGO and I have their hedge trimmer on the way!
Thank you for watching and for your comment
Thanks for making these comparisons. They're very detailed and helpful.
EGO makes a great product that seems to keep getting better and better.
It's helping drive competition to make their products better.
In the end, we all win.
I've currently got an older model select cut EGO that I got from Home Depot when they clearanced them all out last year for about $219.
I love it and think that eventually I'll get a newer EGO with better features in a few years when mine wears out. They're pretty well made, but definitely won't last forever like older equipment did because it was built like a tank.
Actually my new ego sucks. I'm l;ooking at the toro now.
From watching this I would hands down choose the Ego. Thanks for doing this review. It was very informative and thorough. Nice job!
Thank you Phil
Great video thanks for the detail. The Toro looks pretty well, I was pleased. Just wanted to mention the Toro self propelled system seems to be the drive pulley and belt to Gearbox. Not motor driven as mentioned here. That's the gearbox on lower right driving the axle. No hub motors either that's just the height adjustment cam at the hub I believe. Another reason you will have to engage mower blades before the self propel will move of course.
Thrifty thank you I appreciate that and thanks for watching
I still think toro could’ve made the mower more modern like the way the handle folds, the wheel adjustments etc. I do like the mulching lever. But I’ll never buy a mower again where ou have to adjust all 4 wheels independently. When they start to wear and get grass on them they’re almost impossible to move. I’ve since sold all my gas mowers since my cordless works so well! Another amazing video my friend!!
AJ good feedback man, thanks for your words and for your support 👍🏻
Cheaper for them to just use basically the same deck as the gas toro. I’d probably spend the extra money for the ego, plus I like the rest of their lineup better
@@ajmedeiros77 yeah. Ego is gonna be tough to catch in the cordless world.

Very well thought-out review. I do have one comment, if I may. I am personally not a fan of listing a "pro" for one device and then again a "con" for the other device later. To me it goes without saying if something is a "pro" for one thing, it's a "con" for the other. Nitpicky, I know. Just some feedback for future videos.
I think you gave a very fair evaluation of both mowers. I do own 2 other Toro 60V garden tools, so I probably would get the Toro. I do however like several things better on the EGO except the two blades and the price.
Thanks Sal appreciate your comment, glad you found the video helpful
Witch one does Brooklyn like? That is the real question. She checked them both out very thoroughly.
Definitely lol
Quite the dilemma. I’ve had a Toro gas, belt propelled 21” for the last 20 years. I like the toro because it looks like my gas mower. But, I’ve been a fan of EGO a few years. I’ve got a chainsaw and string trimmer 56V and have been very happy. If the Toro costs less, when my gas mower goes, I’ll have to make a decision. But, it runs just fine.
Great comparison as always Tech! I love the boxing gloves on the ground at the beginning.
Thanks just having some fun switching it up, hope you saw the Alzheimers flags also, just trying to grow awareness. It was a shock to our family when we all were affected.
The black case you pointed to under the Toro is a gearbox. It's driven by the big motor via the belt.
Thank you
Ego is so freaking awesome! I love my mower. The cut is so even and the mulching blade leaves virtually NO clippings left on my yard...I think it converts blades of grass to dust, literally!! I have a good sized city lot and can cut it with ONE 5 amp hour battery!!!
Nice informative video, great coverage of the details of each. It's nice that the EGO comes with side discharge attachment but Toro want the owner having to ask for the "free" side discharge attachment.
The Toro comes with one blade compared to 3 or 4 special purpose blades for the EGO. The comparison is like comparing two cars one with just all season tires vs one with both a set of summer performance tires for a dry race track as well as a set of dedicated winter tires to test in the snow
Thanks M Lue glad it was helpful, what mower do you have?
I've used a gas mower for years, without a fuel gauge or lights and I might be wrong but I don't think there is any gas push lawnmower with fuel gauge and lights. Why is it now important to see the battery discharging? When I mow, my eyes are on the grass trying to avoid damaging the blade. IMHO the running lights and the battery gauge light are not relevant for the job. In my area the sun goes down rather late in the summer and I'm not sure I've ever wanted to cut grass after dark. Nice review, I went with the Toro myself.
I do think these mower comparisons are interesting -your videos and other inspired me to get the Select cut EGO.I have an EGO Z6 42" rider on order from Lowes.Really anxious to try these mowers out!Waiting for my grass to grow. Its been HOT here so the grass is slow in growing.A note about the Lowes delivory----These mowers have the Lithium batteries and to Lowes are classed as "hazardous" material.I threatened them with taking my busineess somewhere else Their salesman talked to the managers-both of them and they agreed to deliver my rider mower. So beware-if you buy any Lithium battery equipped appliances at Lowes you may have to do threats and fast talking to bring your mower to your home.I don't have a truck. My EGO rider is supposed to come this Friday.
HI MR. TECH GUY, ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO!!! FIRST, I'M VERY, VERY SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOU DAD!! THAT'S A TERRIBLE, SAD DISEASE!! I WISH YOU BOTH GOOD LUCK!! (I'M AFRAID YOU'LL NEED IT ). I have a Craftsman Steel Deck Gas 21" mower that only mulches, so it's really light, starts 1st or 2nd pull EVERY TIME, SO IT'S GREAT!! But now I have a heart condition, and my wife is doing it, so I want to make it as easy as I can for her, by getting an electric, self propelled job. TORO MAKES GREAT MOWERS!! SOLID!! I Love the steel deck, 22" width, Personal Pace, but to me the best feature is that it seems to be THE ONLY ELECTRIC MOWER MADE WITH A HANDLE ON THE BATTERY!! This is VERY IMPORTANT FOR MY WIFE'S SMALLER HANDS!!! But it's heavier weight might be a bit of a drawback ( we have a shorter lawn with a lot of turning and maneuvering) The EGO has a lot of EXCELLENT FEATURES THAT I REALLY LIKE, but the 3 I HATE : 1) THE PRICE!!! ( 3X more than my GAS mower?? ) 2) why the green- tinted, semi-transparent battery cover?? If they want you to be able to look at the battery gauge, wouldn't clear plastic make more sense?? 3) I HATE THAT UGLY, PRIMER GREY COLOR!! IT MAKES IT LOOK CHEAP!! I also wish it wasn't made in China, because I worry about parts availability in the future years, but I still think it's the number 1 choice for me!! THANK YOU FOR YOU HELP IN MAKING IT EASIER FOR ME TO CHOOSE!! CHAS ORVIS, PLAINVILLE CT. PS : LOVE BROOKLYN ( SHE'S DADDY GIRL, SUCH A GOOD GIRL!! ) but if you show your fiance more, you'll get more subscribers ( SORRY!! BUT I'M A GUY!! ) Just ask BEN+ JENNY SULLENS!!!
Thanks for mentioning my Dad and Alzheimer’s, as a family we’ve been dealing with that disease for over 13 years now. He’s still with us but not much quality of life. Again thank you
I've owned a EGO Model LM2100 (non-self propelled) mower for 4 mowing seasons. Our lawn is really thick tall fescue that I mow at 4 inches and in different directions to avoid rutting. Although there is a lot to like about the mower it does, imo, have some shortcomings. The light deck and small wheels allows the mower to jump around quite a bit and when mowing on the side of a hill I find it hard to keep in a straight line as it tends to wobble. The mower does a good job of mulching grass, but a very poor job of mulching and bagging leaves. One of my frustrations with this particular model I can not use their high lift blade. Another video comparing the leaf mulching comparison between the current Toro and EGO models showed the EGO left a lot of large pieces and even some whole leaves while the Toro chopped them us into very fine pieces.
Both good brands Doug
Great initiative to make the comparison between these two brands. Congratulations. I've had an egopower brushcutter tool for a few days now and I still can't evaluate it. I must say that I am finding myself well. I admire the long guarantee that the brand provides
I enjoy your videos. One test that would be interesting is navigating the mower in tight places, like around a tree or bushes, or just taking corners and/or doing a 180 degree turn at the end of the yard. I often pull the mower backwards and tilt it at angles around trees or bushes, and quick easy 180 turns make a big difference. It's difficult to tell how these mowers do pulling backwards - or if that's even possible? nice videos. thanks.
Michael thank you! Great ideas I appreciate it.
@@TechMadeEzy do you recall if one was more maneuverable than the other?
Very similar to be straight
EGO are a nightmare for backing up. You have to let go of the drive and then let the mower drift forward so it disconnects. It’s annoying. Especially when you forget and just drove into a corner. They are heavy which isn’t bad, but is annoying when reverse is locked out. The toro is the most gas mower like performance you can get. The Ego has terrible drive motor whine as well. A takeoff system like the toro uses is really smart and simplifies the system and doesn’t require special parts unlike other brands.
would like to see the toro rear wheel off wondering if gears are plastic. love that the toro still using a diff for rear axle
Alzheimers affect too many people and many aren't aware until it affects they family thanks for taking about it 🙏🏻
It's near and dear to me and my family ❤️
Ego also sell metal deck too and it is side discharge. The self-paced system will get stuck as it wears out and that bouncy shock absorbs the feeling ...When you have a big yard sometimes you want to hang on and relax while the engine is at a constant speed. No not with self pace one..
I have an older gasoline Toro with the Personal Pace. Even though the mower is heavier than others I've owned, the Personal Pace more than makes up for it. It drives exactly the speed I walk. It accelerates smoothly and it disengages when I stop or pull backwards. Previous mowers were constant drive. That made it difficult to maneuver around obstacles and back up. Also, the Toro drives both rear wheels. The EGO drives one rear wheel. I had to use my mower with one wheel drive when the key in the shaft slipped for about a month. It pulled left and got stuck easily with even the slightest moisture on the grass. There's a lot I like about the EGO, but the Personal Pace is the #1 must-have on a mower for me. If you haven't used one you don't know what you are missing. If EGO's self-propelled functioned similarly, I would definitely choose it over the Toro. Personal Pace trumps all other features.
I just bought a brand new EGO and quite frankly I don’t need to see any other mowers because this one is perfect.
Awesome and congrats Kerry, thanks for watching our video stay in touch and if you have any questions let me know I'd be glad to help
When you push the handle in on the ego and if you are mulching it will be a good height for a short person
I went from ego to this toro, but my old ego was not self propelled. I just wanted a change in brand. I love it, yeah it's not as light so standing it up isn't as slick, but other than that they're both pretty much same. I never used an ego self prop, but the toro pace really is the cats meow. The only advantage is weight on ego, and the height adjustment is faster but how often do you do that?
Ha I bought Toro for weight because I want the exercise....I hardly use the self propel if at all
@@mattyghost3409 Well here in AZ, mowing 1/3 acre will get you that exercise and heat stroke lol
I am unfamiliar with the Ego and it is probably an excellent machine. However, I decided on the Toro after doing a ton of research and it has worked out fine for me; its steel deck was a deciding factor, along with the individual height-adjustment, which I am sure others might find cumbersome. I also have an uneven yard so the Toro's heaviness has proven to be a definite advantage there. No, it's not perfect, but what a relief not to have deal with gas and oil or having to drag around that cord.
Hi Ravi thanks so much for watching and for sharing your point of view 👍🏻 I hope you stay with us on the channel
For the SP drive on the Toro-looks like they used the belt drive from the motor to a transmission to turn the back wheel-don't think that is a "motor" since it has a belt and pulley going to it.The gas Toros I had had the same thing.Liked the duct covering the belt under the deck to keep grass from getting tangled in the belt.
Yes, I, surprised the reviewer missed the part and thought there were motors inside the wheels? Btw, I do like the toros belt drive vs EGO electric motor at the drive axle which goes bad all the time. Self propel moot or failures are pretty common on EGO
Hey there Bill Stephens from Mecum. Great video like ALWAYS, this is the Dude from California again .
I LOVE your Dog, Brooklyn, a real cool-looking dog.
I used to have EGO tools, a weed eater, a Hedge trimmer, & Leaf blower. Had 4 Battery's , and in 12 months 3 went DEAD.
They Warranty 1, then the other went DEAD. So I sold Everything for $ 120.00 on Craigslist.
Went to Milwaukee and never looked back, that was 2 years ago. NEVER Had a battery go dead yet from
Milwaukee. That is a BIG weak Point about EGO, tough for me to buy Ego again.
Glad it’s working out Bill, I’m glad there is competition and everyone continues to improve. Milwaukee definitely has some good power.
I like the EGO's light weight and power. I think that would do better on my sloped yard.
This is a perfect example of a clean sheet vs adapted design. The Toro is basically the same old mower with an electric motor. Still uses a belt for the mechanical drive. The grass clumping is the exact same of my old Toro from 20 years ago, basically the same old deck. It could be great but they got lazy. A twin blade and redesign of the chute to prevent clumping is long overdue. Personal pace is awesome. The EGO is innovated and was engineered as an electric device and that is obvious. Perhaps some of it is over engineered though making some aspects more desirable on the old school mower. This also applies to electric cars.
Did you learn anything about Toro's battery technology in the last year? Arc/stay cool on EGO. I'm looking at the 60v Super Recycler and will be cutting in Texas. If the battery overheats, that could be significant.
Hi no, don't see much out there on the Toro battery.
You mentioned the EGO had a problem with backing up? Supposedly if the self propel is off and you back up it comes on? Has that been looked into/resolved? Seems most everything else is ok.
Something I still don’t enjoy but it engages often when pushing forward and or pulling backwards. Supposedly it’s part of the design and something that can’t be fixed. Not a dealbreaker it doesn’t happen often it’s just one of those little things I wish they would fix in newer models
@@TechMadeEzy That is puzzling? So, in other words, if doing a lot of straight cutting no problem, but doing some back and forth in close areas the self propel will engage when off? I hope this is resolved, I am nearing a purchase but now on hold.
Thanks for the informative video as I was stumped while shopping. Do you know why they have to sound like a regular mower? Why not make quieter?
Thanks Paul, They are definitely quieter
Unbelievable review, great job.
Thank you Mike
I mow at midnight, no lie 🤥
Love it ...
Your neighbors can’t be happy unless you live on a large piece of land
I just bought the EGO and thinking about returning it. The self propel is a disappointment, the mower lifts with a pause before taking off, it struggles on steep hills. One time I had the button pushed but it didn't move. I think EGO battery is first rate, it's a nice system but the self propel is unrefined. The Toro rubber tires might do better on hills and the personal pace has got to be better.
Just picked the EGO last night from Lowes and then saw this video...not that it would've made a difference since I tried the Toro from HD. Ordered online with curbside pickup. To be fair, HD gave me a used Toro in which the self propelled feature didn't work. I still did test the cutting and it got bogged down by my Zeon Zoysia a lot. Returned. Today tested the EGO and unfortunately it got bogged down too. Again to be fair, I let the grass grow long since I didn't have time to research and pick up a new mower. Other parts of the yard had no issues even with the same grass so will be interesting on the next mow in the next 2 to 3 days to see if the mower bogs down. Hate to have to return and switch to gas. EGO is definitely not as powerful as gas models even if the box says so.
Thanks for sharing your experience Len and for watching
@@TechMadeEzy you bet! Forgot to mention great detailed review. Congrats on the "new addition" to the crew.
Thanks Len
Mow a typical size yard with a 5 inch grass growth after a rain , this is a typical American getting on his yardwork on a weekend .
The side discharge shout is free with free shipping once you register as request it.. The Toro Super recycler is a better comparison price to performance vs the Ego
Another great head-to-head comparison! Thank you!
Since purchasing my Ego Select Cut SP2156 mower the end of March ‘21, my biggest complaint is that I desire to mulch my Tall Fescue grass, but the higher the mower is set to cut, the worse the grass lift is with the mulching blade. I understand the physics behind this, but the Ego blade just doesn’t spin fast enough to create good draw at the #5 that I desire to cut, so I end up cutting at position #4-only marginally better. I have always mulched my grass clippings, but may end up swapping over to the high-lift blade and bagging the clippings. Two questions: 1) Is the lift significantly better with the high-lift blade? And 2) is it possible to mulch adequately with the high-lift blade instead of the mulching blade? Thanks again!
Danny thank you
The high lift blade isn't good for mulching at all honestly, bagging yes with better suction than the original select cut.
@@TechMadeEzy - Thanks for the quick reply. My gut was telling me the same thing. While I’ve always mulched, I’ve also always had issues with a layer of dead grass covering the dirt, so much so that it has prevented effective over-seeding, because the seed can’t actually come into contact with the dirt. I can easily pull up pieces of that dead grass with a quick pinch and a pull. I have since purchased a scarifier/dethatcher, but I’m still dropping all those grass clippings. Question: Is that layer of dead grass forming from the mulched grass? Meaning if I switch to the high-lift blade and bag the clippings, will that help to prevent the creation of that dead grass layer? If so, I just fixed a multitude of lawn issues. Thanks again!
Mulching is very healthy for the lawn but the mulch can't be big pieces. Some people mow their lawn like once a week and the problem is they're cutting off too in or more of grass which will pile up on the lawn and really become an issue
In cases where you're cutting a lot of grass your best bet is bagging it. At that point you could use the hi-lift blade or the mulching blade it won't matter. The hi-lift blade will help you in lifting Blades of grass that are laying down and obviously offer you slightly better suction. What I do now is I keep my lawn at about 3 in in height which is setting number 5 on the mower.
@@TechMadeEzy - UPDATE: I mowed my lawn today for the first time with the high-lift blade and bag attachment. Wow! That made all the difference in the world. My lawn looks SO much better now. With the mulching blade on #5, it was meh. On #4, slightly better, but I could live with that if it meant no more gas to mess with. But this high-lift blade really did the job. I’m in love with it all over again! Just thought I’d let you know. P.S. To make sure the 10Ah battery lasted the whole cut, I did mostly without the self-propelled. I had one light left when I was finished. Love it!
The Toro doesn't use motor for their self propelled mowers that's why there's no wires. It's a tensioning belt driven gearbox system and what Toro uses on their other self propelled mowers. As the belt tensions or loosens it will go faster or slower.
Thank you
I have the new Ego XP model that i got earlier this spring. Ive been charging the battery for months on the nexus system and the past few weeks I’ve noticed that my battery life isn’t as great as it used to be. My blower battery is a 5ah and it has been having trouble staying charged as well. Ive used the fast charger for the 10ah and still having same problem and battery is barely lasting for my 4800 sq ft yard. Now I’m using the standard black charger that came with the blower and my batteries are getting better and better.
Wondering if your noticing any issues with your batteries by using the nexus system to charge?
Also, great review as usual. Best mower reviews on the net. Thanks
Hi Gary I haven’t seen much degradation on my batteries but I agree with you when you have an opportunity to slow charge your batteries go right ahead and do it. I know egos got to keep cool technology which really helps and the fans are built into the chargers but they still get warm and in some cases hot which can affect their life. So slow charge any time you can I do believe it’s beneficial. Thank you so much for your kind words I’m so glad you’re one of my subscribers
storing your batteries at a high level of charge is abusing them and they will not last. leave them at 50% charge until just before you mow again.
If Ego can get their propel drive system right, they have a premium mower.
Also, the new 60v Super Recycler has headlights and the 7.5 Ah battery.
I own the Ego, I find it much easier to use and maintain, along with the cutting higher thicker grass the self propel speed truly does help with all that torque
HI Angus 👍🏻
Uh, that’s not the motor for the Toro. It’s the gearbox. The wheels have sprockets. The Ego has the transport motor where you pointed. The blade motor is that funny big bump on the deck, for each. You know, where a gas engine would be.
Ego all the way. I had a gas Toro. The steal deck had an issue with rust and I kept having to change out the belt for the drive. What a pain in the butt.
With Ego I’ve had zero maintenance. Plus with the dual blades I feel that it cuts more evenly. Of course that’s just my opinion. But now I’m happy with my lawn maintenance. It seems easier with the Ego.
Awesome video. Very well done.
Thank you Chad thanks for watching
It looks like Toro just used the Belt-drive Personal Pace system from their gas mowers. It’s very simple to use on my 10-yo gas mower, but my new Ego Select Cut with the Polycarbonate deck is MUCH easier to maneuver. It was designed from the ground up to run electric. I can’t wait to mow next week!
The two year warranty and the lack of included side discharge is really disappointing. I really do think Toro's personal pace system is the best on the market, but it doesn't make up for the limited warranty and no side discharge.
Since there is a BELT on the Toro, I'm pretty sure that what you were pointing to calling a 'motor' at the rear wheels was instead a gear. So there is only one motor on the Toro, the one that cuts the grass AND drives the wheels.
Nice video. As a re sult of watching your videos I. Purchased the EGO LM2102SP
I love the mower.
Thanks Stephen I'm glad I could help, glad it's working out for you. Miss gas?
I’m supprised the toro doesn’t have a side discharge plug like their other mowers via the side of the deck
They do. It’s the #21388, 60 volt Super Recyler. Uses the same deck as the gas powered Super Recycler.
Since the EGO deck is lighter non metal, would you ever consider a non propelled mower?
Yes, it's funny you say that, I never use self propel yet my mower has the feature.
Hey Tech made easy. The other day I noticed something I hadn't before about the EGO mower and it's the safety key.
I was wondering what this is for? Is this basically like your car keys to be able to start the mower or what other purpose does this have?
Would love to know! Thank you!
Hi Nicolaj
If you have a previous model it’s a safety key if you have kids so they can’t start it if a parent decides to remove the key so kids don’t get hurt
@@TechMadeEzy thanks for the quick response!
My pleasure thanks for your support 👍🏼
A good side by side of the contenders. I’d have to give EGO the win. At the end of the day it comes down to what is left on the lawn. The TORO leaves behind more than the EGO. Looks like Brooklyn is getting around better these days. Keep that tail wagging girl!
Thanks Matthew yes she's pretty good, legs aren't healing the way I'd like but she's still young and has plenty of life in her so thank you
Ego leaves tons of uncut blades of grass and this toro does not. Toro has a much better quality of cut. That is why I returned the ego and bought the toro!
UPDATE: I have purchased this mower as an upgrade from an older EGO model. I’m really impressed with both the mower and the review in this video. I feel confident based on what I saw that this mower will provide years of excellent service. Thank you again Tech Made Easy for the exceptional reviews on your channel.
You should test the Toro #21388 60 volt Super Recycler. It’s priced the same as the EGO you tested here.
Thanks ET flyer have to see how the budget works but I will check the specs out, what makes that better than this Vortex model?
@@TechMadeEzy It has the Super Recycler deck which seems to be the best muching setup going. I have a gas Super Recycler and if the 60 volt motor is powerful enough, it would be an awesome mower.
If love to know the wattage and especially the torque
@@TechMadeEzy I guess RUclips no longer allows hyperlinks in these posts. On the Toro site you can look up parts and they list the same motor for both the Recycler that you tested and the #21388 Super Recycler. They both show the “140-4119 MOTOR-2KW” motor. The Super deck is cast aluminum and has the side discharge option. In my experience with gas powered Toro mowers, the Super Recycler is a better mulching system.
@@TechMadeEzy the 21388 comes with a larger 7.5 ah battery and an extra year of battery warranty.
Toro batts take over 2 hours to recharge. If you buy the Toro 60 volt, and you have a large lawn,I would suggest getting an additional battery.BTW-the weight of the Toro mower is substantially more then Ego,if you have soft ground, you will leave wheel ruts.
The toro is about the same weight as the gas version. So it’s par for the course, but it’s also metal construction. The newer ego’s using aluminum (not steel like this toro) manages to weigh even more than this toro model. Material for material Ego is one of the heaviest brands out there.
How do you have time for this channel on top of your radio show, Howard??
Robin replays my older shows for me 😎
Ok when you review the super recycled and make a comparison againts ego 4th gen mower
I hope I have the funds 👍🏻 thanks so much for watching Auro
The inch width is minimal the fact the 2 blade system makes it much finer which makes the amount make a smaller pile.
The large blade of grass on the toro will also make the pile look bigger
Good reviews. Toro doesn't have drive motors but mechanical gear drive through belt. Ego has electric moto drive.
Thanks Jag
Do they warranty the battery?
Yes, that info is in the video on how long each warranty is
If money's no object, go with the EGO.
But, which one has a more reliable battery? The batteries can cost more than the mower after all.
Both brands have done some amazing advances with their batteries in all honesty Steven
There really is no choice if you are already in the Ego system. The interchangeable batteries is a huge feature.
2 months ago, I bought the EG0 Power PlusXP lawn mower. It is easily the worst lawn mower I've ever used in my 65 years of mowing. It's temperamental to start, gets bogged down and stops often on low grass with a fully charged battery and cuts unevenly. Also, the self-propelled buttons are easy to bump when you don't want it to go which can create cartoon like situations of chasing it. I seriously regret the purchase and would return it if I could. Perhaps it's just a lemon because all the reviews ranked it highly. We have used it a dozen times and it seems worse each time.
The light test looks like you can see for 1-2 feet in front of the EGO mower. Does anyone not look much farther ahead?
That’s usually enough for most people
Hi to everyone 🤗I don't know why Toro tools arrive in Italy after two years compared to the introduction on the American market
awesome video
Thanks Snoopy 👍🏻
@@TechMadeEzy hey if you ever get rid one those cordless mowers i could use one for mowing yards i would save a lot of money nand never half to buy gas again :-)
Excellent review. I have owned the Toro gas engine version with the personal pace. It was nice when it worked, but the drive belt broke at least once every mowing season. I have a little larger lawn than most, but the drive belt was not cheap to have fixed at the service center I used. Also, with the personal pace system, it was difficult to pull the mower backwards (my wife quit using the mower because of this). I don’t know how this personal pace system differs from what they made 6 or 7 years ago, so would suggest asking before buying.
My sadness over this review is that EGO is a mainland China company. I don’t like buying product from mainland China because their businesses can get gov’t subsidies which make unfair pricing in the world marketplace. Also, China is notorious for stealing technology that is covered by patents that are typically honored by European companies. Again, this gives them an unfair price advantage in the world marketplace. Also, their treatment of certain classes of people in China is terrible to the point of basically slave labor. China’s goal is both financial and political dominance in the world. Not a pleasant thought for me.
Look at how much shorter the wheelbase is on the Toro making it much easier to maneuver.
The price difference is just too much. I love my EGO hedge trimmer and blower, though.
Great video like you always do, but Please make sure Brooklyn your dog is not by the mowers when you start the blades like when you started the Ego, her feet where close to the deck.
Thank you and you are correct, I need to be more careful. Thanks Mach 👍🏼
Ego is the one to go for and I don’t know if the toro has a inverter for there batteries ego does
Doggo!
If it bothers you to have grass stuck in the deck of the Toro grab you some polyurethane caulking and seal it.
Good idea Daniel
@@TechMadeEzy provided you still have it. How does it compare to the Ryobi. Home Depot is selling Ryobi exclusively. They don't carry Toro but I can order it.
The ryobi bogged down a few times already on me with medium grass, that was my experience but I keep hearing from many that say it’s a solid machine. I personally would choose the Toro or a GreenWorks if you don’t want an EGO.
If you buy into their systems, you can swap batteries between grass mowers and snow blowers.
Hi Dan Yes both platforms which is awesome
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Can you compare to the Harbor Freight Atlas 80v mower? It's about $500 with charger and battery. And self propelled
Can’t promise. Don’t have the budget at this time.
@@TechMadeEzy Thanks, I saw a review. It's OK. None of these handle tall grass well but most push mowers don't either. I mean a foot tall or a foot and a half. It will turn off rather than melt down. Nice overload protection. The guy using it didn't have a perfect lawn like most people that buy these things.
When you do your speed tests, you should stay still and watch the mowers. You could add a timer for how long it takes to go 50 feet at each speed...walking next to each mower as you go doesn't really give me any idea how fast it's really going. I can't see how quick your fiance has to walk to keep up with it. If I watch a car going next to me on the freeway, it isn't going that much faster than I am. If I stand still and watch them race by, I get a better idea for how fast they are moving.
Thanks David
I think I like the Toro better
You are confused! The toro personal pace system is belt drive, which is fed from the mower motor and the gear reduction on the rear wheels aren’t motors either. SMH.
An hour long mower review?? Wow
Hi Carl, When you need detail you know where to come. We are about the smallest details to help people make purchase decisions. You can find many channels on RUclips with the 5min review.
But when you need detail hopefully you will appreciate the time we put into our reviews and come back and see us.
@@TechMadeEzy when I see these done on lawn care channels they are typically about 30-40 minutes long. Great mowers though
Thanks for your feedback, I also leave a chapter list in the description if you ever want to see something specific you can skip to that, did you see that?
The motor only stays engaged on my ego when I immediately try to pull backwards after letting off self propel button. As long as I let it free wheel for about 1 foot it disengages every time. Think of it like a ratchet system.
I hear ya, it's just weird when I have the self propel off and it does that often. I'm going to reach out to EGO and see what they say. Thanks Jacob
The Touro looks like they took a gas mower and added the electric portion. The EGO was obviously designed as a whole unit. I do agree with you a handle on the battery would be nice.
Ego wins in my book! Glad I didn't get the Toro!
Thanks for watching Flyer much appreciated
Toro!
I like both mowers but the Toro is cheaper and Toro is an American company and they have service centers everywhere. Ego is owned by a Chinese company and manufactures in China which is currently supporting Russia so that's a no for me. They have the longer warranty but I've heard warranty service is a real PITA. Not sure where the Toro mower is actually assembled but Toro generally manufactures in North America (USA and Mexico). Steel deck is sort of a pro/con sort of thing.
Ironic that the EGO is now about $500 and the Toro is $650.
$500 for a select cut kit with battery? I haven’t seen that
I saw your link that’s a single blade. Those definitely cost less than the dual blade select cut. Thanks
Does either mower have ball bearing wheels?
Hi Edward Yes both
What you call a motor on the Toro is a differential, what you call wires on the Toro are cables, just get some of those things corrected otherwise a great review.
Thanks Keith
