As a person who has been making less than 10 euros per day (in a poor country so the standards are different, but it's still a little). I can tell you that you try to buy the most products with the least possible money. And after that even if you get rich, you still do that because it's a habbit xD
Good things are hardly noticed...the 68 something dollars spent on a single bottle of wine has everybody's brains captivated. Negative/bad stuffs strikes our minds much easier & faster than the rest, that's us everyday homosepiens.
The lady that was the software engineer or the unemployed couple I felt spent their money the wisest. The software engineer got a decent amount of grains with what she got, but the unemployed couple got the most fresh fruit and vegetables for the money. I can definitely relate though $150 in my house is used to feed four people for two weeks, and that is breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Thankfully we keep it pretty simple with breakfast with smoothies or fruit or oatmeal, and lunch we usually just have the leftovers from the dinner if it didn't all get eaten the night before.
Girl Nerdified poor people don't often spend money on produce because it's shelf life, so if you're given 100 dollars you'll spend it on things you haven't been able to enjoy. The two men probably dont get to eat tons of fruit and the man on ss probably can't afford to buy sweets.
The guy who said he isn't tight with money yet spent $60 on wine and dresses nicely and stays very well-groomed probably just came from a rich family and then got demoted to upper middle class when he moved out, tbh
even if you take into account what he said about his parents being tight on money, he clearly didnt learn anything from them on how to maintain wealth.
I mean, they still have to live their lives, so it's not like they just got rid of all their groceries and told them go for it. Toilet paper is not a priority for them as it might be for people who are running out.
PlainBlueFolders The idea of this video is what would you live on for a week, we are supposed to pretend these people have nothing at home, that's the idea of this video, not 'oh I'm just gonna do some extra shopping'.
Yeah, but it's only a small thing so, like I said, they probably just haven't thought it. Also, we are arguing about groceries, this may not be the best use of our time. ^^'

that guy literally got basically wine, avocados, bougie ass cheese, a baguette, a tiny piece of meat, asparagus, and three mini composition books ...bitch what????? that is the most impractical spending i have ever seen, and i am not very good with money
It seems that people who have less money are better at budgeting. Kind of ironic, in a way, that the unemployed couple had one of the best budgets shown.
I would like to see how this changes over the course of a month because a lot of items don't need to be bought weekly (spices, rice, canned foods, etc.)
Dude, if you want to be middle class, maybe don't blow over half the budget in fancy booze and what I can only assume is a Kobe beef steak. There isn't even food for two people in that shot! Ask the gay couple, they clearly know how to budget.
Its not the health thats the issue, actually theres no issue at all with these foods if youre aware of the risks that come with consuming them. However, compare the price of all that pizza stuff to just store bought ingredients. You could cook up ten times as much food by doing it yourself rather than eating that predone stuff.
it might be good for a few months but if you're gonna spent 3years in college that's not the way to go. you need all the energy to succeed and stay healthy for exams. plus when you get out of college you know how to cook properly. I rarely eat out cause I always cook whatever I like with fresh ingredients since college.
Granted a fancy bottle of wine here and there is awesome, but yeah, when you have 100 bucks to feed yourself for as long as possible, the LAST thing on your list is alcohol, let alone devoting over half the budget towards ONE bottle of wine. Surprised the rest of his budget isn't kleenex and lotion.
They gave him $100 and said spend it on groceries. What if he bought food the day before. He could buy more food.... or maybe treat himself to a bottle of wine and some avocados!
The 30-year-old bartender says they're really striving to be middle-class and spends most of the grocery budget on one bottle of wine? Is that what middle-class looks like?
I'm really glad this video showed a lot of working class people. That one guy who blew half the $100 on a single bottle of wine, and the rest on expensive meat and bread, was clearly spoiled growing up cuz he doesn't know crap about budgeting😂
It could be the opposite in my experience. I grew up with parents that never wanted to buy anything that wasn't necessary, no ice cream, no candy that could be bought cheaper, nothing. So now I buy all the shit I want whenever I want with the money I make.
+Cate H. nit onky that; he is a bartender. he proabbly already has a big taste for alcohol. EVERY bartender I have ever visited at home has expensive alcohol. his home is Actually a near perfect representation on my bestfriend before his woman moved in.
I was thinking the same. Granted, I am in Germany not the US, but €100 is my grocery budget for 4-6 WEEKS, and I will get a ton more than what any of those people had shown in their charts. And if you only have €100, what's that hipster pos doing with a €63 bottle of wine? Jaysus.
To whomever commented that €100 was very different than $100, then deleted the comment - it's actually not. 100 Euros with the current exchange rate is 104 US dollars. ;)
"Starving artists" come on. Get a job. It doesn't mean you have to abandon your artistic endeavors, it just means you get to eat and not live off other people.
Idk if that actually means they do nothing at all and collect welfare (a lot of people really need welfare, but what you're suggesting is that they're using it improperly), maybe they technically don't have jobs but they do work under the table to survive. Who knows
My father who works as an artist had to get a job as a cook for a while after the place he worked for went under until he could find another art job. I agree, you shouldn't be unemployed just because you have your mind set on doing something different.
AMBITION That's true, they're way old enough to have their lives together by now but as long as they're finding a way to support themselves without living off of other people and not using welfare inappropriately, I don't really care.
Sara Vinci That's also something to take into consideration. They graduated high school at a time where you didn't need a college degree to get a good job so maybe they didn't go to college, and maybe now they're struggling to find work because of it.
Here it costs about 25 dollars a week to buy a shitload of food, especially fruits and vegetables. When I saw the cost of so little veggies and fruit I cringed and understood why American are obese, also that old guy that thinks 1100 dollars a month is poverty. You people are disgusting...
Christina Huang yeah but I can think of so many other things to do with 100 bucks (other than food) -See a movie -Buy a gift for a family member -Charity -Save it -Buy food -Help your town -Fix up your house -Go to your family (if far away) -Help your f-ing parents But wine? Seriously?
Oh man though, she cannot stay on that diet if she wants to be healthy and fit. Her metabolism will inevitably slow down and the pounds will catch up to her. As a college student, I love pizza rolls, but I am also avoiding the total pizza diet.
cows kickass I'm pretty sure that's up to the individual. Like I get full with whole foods but things like wheat and processed stuff makes me even hungrier.
cows kickass Like I said, everyone's body is different, and that's how I am. And by "fill me up" I mean like I'm satisfied longer and don't have to come back for a snack or something in like an hour. Not necessarily that I feel full :P
You have no kids and a FT job yet can still enjoy frivolous nights...you're in middle class. Struggling families don't get the luxury of a cinematic experience, a dinner out more than McD's, and avoid drinking b/c alcohol is so expensive.
Don’t have kids if you can’t afford them. It’s putting unnecessary suffering on you and it’s not fair to bring human beings into a life that isn’t good to them from the get go. My rule of thumb: if you aren’t prepared to support a child for the rest of their lives w/ heavy medical bills, don’t have a kid - that’s the worst case scenario financial wise having a child. If you can’t afford the worst case scenario, you can’t afford a kid.
Kalle Scope Yo i think you're judging people without knowing their situations, often people in a struggling family weren't struggling when they had their kids but have either 1) underestimated how much a kid costs you (a lady in this video even spent half the 50 on kids products like dipers) or 2) lost jobs or lost positions in jobs.
I love the energy of the denim jacket guy. Like that’s an extra $100 to spend, of course I’m going to buy stuff I normally don’t since everything else is already in my normal budget
I understand it's his money and he can spend it how he wants, but why would he even question if he's middle class if he can easily spend the biggest chunk of his grocery allowance on wine? Just admit you have money dude.
+cupnoodles201 Yeah, as someone who is wayyy under middle class, I would never dream of spending so much on a bottle of wine. In fact, since I live in a place where even "cheap" alcohol is super expensive, I don't buy it at all. Also avocados and asparagus (the only vegetables that guy bought) are the two most expensive vegetables you can buy where I live. Maybe the reason he doesn't feel middle class is because he has no extra money after he's done spending it all on things he doesn't need :P.
+Emperor Theodor Tronêt Thank you for mentioning that. I didn't know. I live in Seattle too and hell yeah, everything is expensive 😕😕 But budgeting like some of these people did can get you some AMAZING products here.
If I transform 100$ into money of my country it will be a lot, like really. I can probably eat 3 weeks That guy who told he made 1100$ a.month and it's like a little bit over a poverty level would be a wealthy man over here. World is so different .
+Kate Bonanza But the exchange rate always stays the same, no matter where you are, and no matter how inflated the country gets. For example, in the USA, a person can make $5000 a month. Then they spend $1000 on rent. In Russia, a person can make $500 per month and spend $100 on rent. It's the same thing, both people, no matter where they live, are paying 1/5 of their money towards their rent. It's just that the USA is more inflated. Bringing a $100 bill (€90.04) to Russia and asking a bank to exchange it is the same thing as only getting €18.01. Also, I don't know what the actual exchange rate between the USA and Russia (or Europe?) is. These numbers were just an example.
I have so much respect for people who are on an insanely tight budget and so much less judgment for people who don't take care of their bodies nutritionally. It's sad that I had to live off $200/month for food, household products, and medicine to fully understand and believe just how real an issue "food deserts" are for people in low-income situations.
That sort of thing used to piss me off too, until someone joined my family who judged me for how I lived my life and spent my money. Then I realized it's none of my business how someone spends their money as long as it's not negatively affecting other people.
It's hard to split up how I'd spend $100 at the grocery store, because I don't shop weekly most of the time. When I get my $ I go to Sam's and make big bulk purchases like meats, cheeses, eggs, tortillas. Maybe pasta if we're running low. But not their veggies or canned goods because I can find those cheaper elsewhere. usually comes to about $150-200. Package up the meat and freeze it. Then for canned goods, condiments etc, it's walmart because unless one of the grocery stores is running a sale it's cheaper that way. Usually somewhere around $20-$30 in canned goods for the pantry, maybe less depending on what's left from the month before. And then Sprouts because in general their fresh fruits and veggies have great sales and are cheaper than a lot of other places, so I'll stock up on fresh stuff that's on sale, especially apples because they're my 15 year old son's favorite. They're also great for their bulk foods. Granola, and rices. And then sometimes we'll grab a little bit of our favorite candy. But altogether for a family of 3, for the month, I spend under $400.
Not a student in Germany anymore but been living here since 8 years and also with 100 euros i can buy plently food for a month, students dont know how to spend money wisely i see.
Same for Japan. I spend roughly 20-25 USD a week on grocery, maybe 10 USD a week for other necessary stuff that I don't get often. Then once in 2-3 months I'd eat out once for another 15 USD. I feel like with 100$ I can buy more stuff than most people featured here. But maybe where they live, the cost of living is simply higher.
I like how their diets weren't necessarily reflected in their appearance. Heavier people don't eat only junk food by default, in fact in this video two of the youngest, lean-looking people probably had the most unhealthy diets!
+Cat C (catadee) I was thinking that! The girl that says she eats pizza every night, people would look at her appearance and say she is healthy, where other people who are eating vegetables and good food are labelled as unhealthy because they arent skinny smh :/
ConcreteAngelx3 me :) we eat tons of fruit and veggies. I have a box of oranges, a box of bananas, and a box of apples in the kitchen right now and that doesnt even get into the veggies :)
Omg literally stop hating on “tHe wHiTe gUy” if he’s struggling with money and gets a free $100 don’t you think maybe he wants to treat himself? Like people mind your own business, you can’t comment on somebody when you haven’t been in their shoes!

It may have been just for the vid. sheesh, one dude feels like treating himself and he's labeled as an idiot
It could be the opposite in my experience. I grew up with parents that never wanted to buy anything that wasn't necessary, no ice cream, no candy that could be bought cheaper, nothing. So now I buy all the shit I want whenever I want with the money I make.
Why are peanuts under junk food and sweets? And also that old man is me, I eat 2-4 apples a day 😂
apples are bomb, my favorite are the green ones since they're so tart and delicious
CHloE748 apples are super acidic though and eating that many damage your teeth
"At least 6 days a week" Just say you drink everyday lol
This nigga spent $60 on 1 item!
mcnet that's how much my rent is and I struggle every month.... wow
THE MATREX he's irresponsible
+Cate H. nit onky that; he is a bartender. he proabbly already has a big taste for alcohol. EVERY bartender I have ever visited at home has expensive alcohol. his home is Actually a near perfect representation on my bestfriend before his woman moved in.
Barolo(Fontana Fredda Winery in this case) is expensive
Tbh I'm a little surprised how little they got for 100, we spend 30-50 a week for groceries and we get way more food than that!
100 Euros with the current exchange rate is 104 US dollars. ;)
Los angeles
what country because in canada fresh os hella expensive ..
What country do you live in? $100 will last me one day out or like 5 days of groceries if I stretch it really hard
2:12 wait, where did she come from?? They never introduced her, and she never spoke once! lol
God of Beans yeah because getting a job is SoOOoooooOo eEeaSy
Sara Vinci That's also something to take into consideration. They graduated high school at a time where you didn't need a college degree to get a good job so maybe they didn't go to college, and maybe now they're struggling to find work because of it.
"pizza related stuff"
"why?"
"cause its pizza"
I relate so hard
Lol the college girl. "I eat pizza rolls everyday. Well just pizza related things"
"Why"
"Because its pizza"
Same
I've got it down to 55 dollars on groceries a week.
Corinne Marie good for you! in my country with average income you have to get by around 25-30 per week :/ with 55 I could so much more!
Corinne Marie that's amazing. Hope it's healthy
mostly rice, potatoes, oatmeal, veggies and fruit. and I have a weakness for yoghurts lol
Yoghurts is overrated and overpriced IMO
Here it costs about 25 dollars a week to buy a shitload of food, especially fruits and vegetables. When I saw the cost of so little veggies and fruit I cringed and understood why American are obese, also that old guy that thinks 1100 dollars a month is poverty. You people are disgusting...
There's one guy in here that reeeally gets on my nerves.
TotalWeirdo thelegend27
Abdulla Alhammadi Yeah, the legend27.
TotalWeirdo TheLegend27 is a female
Marcus Salisbury Did you just asssummmeee TheLegend27s gender?
Miguel M. Nah it is in the ad
1:18 that man took that apple a day keeps the doctor away saying for real lol
Im a 19 year old college student and there is nothing more relatable than the amount of pizza rolls that that chick bought
No sane man should spend $70 per wine bottle
+Christina Huang You've never met a wine connoisseur, friend.
They're insane.
Christina Huang yeah but I can think of so many other things to do with 100 bucks (other than food)
-See a movie
-Buy a gift for a family member
-Charity
-Save it
-Buy food
-Help your town
-Fix up your house
-Go to your family (if far away)
-Help your f-ing parents
But wine?
Seriously?
pizza girl for the win
yes
+EmmaInCandyland same
Oh man though, she cannot stay on that diet if she wants to be healthy and fit. Her metabolism will inevitably slow down and the pounds will catch up to her. As a college student, I love pizza rolls, but I am also avoiding the total pizza diet.
+EmmaInCandyland until she is 30 with a useless degree, overweight, and no idea how to spend money. No personal responsibility.
+taxidrivernwo
How do you know she's getting a useless degree? What she's studying is never brought up.
60 dollars in wine?? wtf that's idiotic
mikko
It’s idiotic because the fool said he wanted to be middle class, but still wasn’t.
lol you can buy yellowtail for about 10 dollars
The guy that spent more than half of it on wine I'm dead 😂
1:42 "Because it's pizza."
I already love her.
The enlightened Buzzfeed
That gay couple made me so happy. So many meats, fruits, and veggies
DevilBurgers That's my husbands mindset. He eats like a 10 year old, and he's 26
DevilBurgers Buying fresh meat and eggs is the expensive thing. Buying fresh veg and grains is usually cheap as hell.
Its less if you choose carefully.
cows kickass I'm pretty sure that's up to the individual.
Jonathon Dunn I know I’m realll late but 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
okay then dont have a family if you are miserable?
u could also buy much cheaper booze...
1:38 *Finally someone I can relate to.*
I love the energy of the denim jacket guy. Like that’s an extra $100 to spend, of course I’m going to buy stuff I normally don’t since everything else is already in my normal budget
Honestly I'd probably buy a lot of burritos and Mac n cheese
Emy Anderson o
I researched a little into the cheapest food based on calories... The most cal/$ was a walmart bean burrito @ $0.99 for 980Cal.
Only justification needed... "Because its pizza"
2:00 It sounded like this guys charms summoned a demon...
*CaUsE iT’s PiZzA*
I thought I heard, "we met on vine." Then I thought really? How?
Then it hit me. I'm an idiot.
+Andrew Kim FIlm It took me reading this comment to realize that they DIDN'T say vine...
what did they say?
It's interesting how every spends so differently. For me 30 bucks a week on groceries. and thats honestly all i need.
Me too, when I'm at uni in Idaho, I usually spend around 20-30 a week and eat pretty healthy.
+Emperor Theodor Tronêt Thank you for mentioning that. I didn't know. I live in Seattle too and hell yeah, everything is expensive 😕😕 But budgeting like some of these people did can get you some AMAZING products here.
I can get a month worth of food with $100 as a single college student.
the price of things is dufferent tho
good for you, where do you live? That isn't even close to being possible living as a college student in Vancouver, Canada.
$62.99 in wine, sweetie you need to get your priorities checked.
I love how he purchased those tiny journals 🤣
If I transform 100$ into money of my country it will be a lot, like really.
I can probably eat 3 weeks
That guy who told he made 1100$ a.month and it's like a little bit over a poverty level would be a wealthy man over here. World is so different .
+Kate Bonanza But where do you come from ?
+Esther Palm africa xD
It's not a country :p
I am from Russia btw
I can soooooo relate to that indian mom. I can survive for almost a month with $100. Money is short, and its hard to get.
if i budget well i can survive on 18 euro a week :p (and i live in one of the most taxed country's of europe)
Lieselot Lenssens it is all about priorities !
Mishelle Ch. true my priority is vegetables so i never spend that much money :)
I have so much respect for people who are on an insanely tight budget and so much less judgment for people who don't take care of their bodies nutritionally. It's sad that I had to live off $200/month for food, household products, and medicine to fully understand and believe just how real an issue "food deserts" are for people in low-income situations.
Katie Marie +
I'll always love Mick and Anthony ! Hope they managed to find jobs and are doing well :) Rooting for you !
1:19 so wholesome
All on weed.
Yes😂😂
And a pack of newports
My Stoner Mind
Your profile picture is on weed tf 😂
It was a joke btw
My Stoner Mind haha same
dumbass
That guy spending 100 dollars on fucking wine and three shitty avocados pissed me off.
That sort of thing used to piss me off too, until someone joined my family who judged me for how I lived my life and spent my money. Then I realized it's none of my business how someone spends their money as long as it's not negatively affecting other people.
+casperghostly soooooo true!!
"Love at first email" *YASS THAT IS TRUE LOVE*
pizza roll girl meets bartender. 90% of todays 'moms and dads' 😂
Good to see a lot of produce, although I gotta admit some constant, always on screen labels would have helped the pacing a little
dayum cut video, back at it again with the quality vidz
+Gloria Roosevelt Now wait for Buzzed to steal the concept.
Awww the couple is so cute
I've learned how to make a filling meal for a family of 6 for like less than $5, so thanks mom
Really enjoyed the creative aspect of this video!
That laugh after the bartender winked at the camera, though
I'm a student living in Germany, 100€ would be like food for 2,5 weeks for me
thejudgingtrash I'm a student in Finland, with 100€ I could easily get enough food to last a month
Japan? Do you buy at Seiyu etc. a lot? Because from my experience, fresh produce is expensive af otherwise
I like how their diets weren't necessarily reflected in their appearance. Heavier people don't eat only junk food by default, in fact in this video two of the youngest, lean-looking people probably had the most unhealthy diets!
+Cat C (catadee) I was thinking that! The girl that says she eats pizza every night, people would look at her appearance and say she is healthy, where other people who are eating vegetables and good food are labelled as unhealthy because they arent skinny smh :/
as a fangirl, u know u gonna spend it all on merch and albums
If that was £100 that would last my whole family of 6, 5 weeks of groceries
"Cause ... Pizza ... " best answer ever.
What is that man (1:25) going to do with 18 apples? Who buys 18 apples at once?? lol
I'm assuming he's going to eat them? Apples last for quite a while. He may have bought a bag of apples.
ConcreteAngelx3 Apples last a while. He probably just eats them as a breakfast or snack, but maybe he cooks with them too.
ConcreteAngelx3 me :) we eat tons of fruit and veggies. I have a box of oranges, a box of bananas, and a box of apples in the kitchen right now and that doesnt even get into the veggies :)
When you live in a small slav country and 100$ is your budget for a month :/
In Belarus, $100 can buy a lot more tho.
Lorka L What about if you live in Latin America. The same here lol
I'm from India and with 100 dollars if you go to the right place you can stuff for a 1-2 months or stuff for a day also lol
This video is one I watch everytime it's in my suggested feed. Would love to see another one like this!
Omg literally stop hating on “tHe wHiTe gUy” if he’s struggling with money and gets a free $100 don’t you think maybe he wants to treat himself? Like people mind your own business, you can’t comment on somebody when you haven’t been in their shoes!
Treating yourself with no money is stupid when he can eat for a week . TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY
