So yeah I always try to give them attention & treat them how I would want if it were me. Sometimes in this world it’s good to just pause & really be present in the moment .

Makes me think his daughter and son-in-law are health conscious eaters and making sure Dad stays healthy. So nice to see. I would like to invite the two grandmamas over for a meal and some wine. No one should have to eat alone everyday. 😔
bla Stop yelling to yourself, I’ll answer your question for fun. Healthcare workers are in significantly closer proximity to sicker people than anyone going to the damn grocery store. Viral load in the air in the grocery store is very, very minimal compared to next to a COVID patient. Healthcare workers need them more than normal people by definition. The guidelines to not wear masks was primarily to make sure healthcare workers would be able to get masks if possible. If the government said to wear masks, no one in healthcare would be able to wear or find a mask and THAT would cause the collapse of our healthcare system 100x faster than if no one in the general population could find a mask.
The 98 year old with the most balanced diet is by far the oldest and seems extremely well off for someone nearing 100, good eating habits can go a long way.
Yes he's doing very well! I worked at a retirement home and noticed they ate a lot of sweets!! We offered dessert at lunch and dinner and everytime everyone would take one, and would avoid the fruit.
Hearing Gertrude talk about her spending lots of time alone made me so sad, but it's unfortunately a reality for so many seniors. Go out and volunteer if you're able to at nursing homes etc. (once the pandemic is over obvi). They were young like us at one point, and are just as deserving of human contact/relationships. Not to mention that you get to hear some great stories and/or advice from them :)
I heard the most random thing announcement/commercial as I was shopping in a little Mexican grocery store. It was in Spanish and it more or less said this: Son, if one day when I'm old and I no longer remember you, come to me and remind me of who you are. If one day I can no longer feed myself, remember that I fed you. If I become a burden and like a child, remember you were once in the stage I am now. Son, if I still don't remember you, remember that *you* are my greatest love, joy and accomplishment. I cried big fat tears. I've always say that I hope I never ever forget my kids.
That Lady in the orange shirt broke my heart. We gotta make her happy shes like hella pure like she reminds me of my grandmother, always wearing an orange sweater, like y e s
I am so happy for the older 98-year old gentleman, that is he is not living alone or in a nursing home. That is the way my family treats our elders and the way I hope to help my parents when they are much older
He's very lucky. I had a grandmother who lived with us for 15 years. She was around his age by the time we helped her into a nursing home. She was only there for about a week before she passed. As much as we wanted to keep her home we couldn't handle the medical or the physical therapy needs she had. She needed 24 hour care but she also got music therapy, massages, and spiritual support. She had better care there than we could have given her at the time.
The lady in the orange sweater broke my heart. I lost my mom twenty years ago. I would give anything to have her back. Get to know and appreciate your parents people, you never know when they'll be gone for good.
Her daughter commented under a thread here saying they edited the video and that she sees her kids quite a bit, also is in lots of clubs and activities. She is also staying with her mother taking care of her and spending time during this pandemic, watching lots of movies lol
when the woman in the orange sweater said: I'm okay, I'll always be okay. it literally broke my heart cause we could clearly see that she wasn't okay :(

Pablo Rivera I 100% get it; I bet they invite their grandkids out constantly in hopes that they can whenever possible. I know there are some grandparents out there who don’t have anyone who checks on them or cares, people get busy and forget others sometimes. I’m just saying in my opinion, my grandpa LOVES going out on the town alone. He’s wild.
Hi all, I am the granddaughter of Gertrude (orange sweater). She appreciates all of the kind words from all over the world. Although sometimes she eats alone, she does not want people to think she is alone all the time. Her kids and grandkids live close by. She is in multiple bridge clubs, book clubs and she was a longtime student athlete advisor (an illustrious one) for the University of Washington Football team, through which she has maintained many close friendships. CUT did not post all of her words and they skewed them in a way that she feels does not paint an entire picture of who she is. She wanted to let you know she is okay. Don't believe or take word for word, everything that you see in a six minute video that has been edited. Also, I am currently staying over at my grandma's house during this time, so she is not lonely and she is safe. We talk and eat together and have been watching movies everyday.
I love that the old man lives with his daughter and her husband versus a nursing home 💖 reminds me of my husband and I, we don’t want to put our parents in nursing homes and love being around them/helping them as they’re getting old☺️💕 they helped us when we were at our most vulnerable and now it’s our turn to help them! (Not everyone’s way of thinking, but just thought I’d share)🤷🏻♀️

@Adam Imagine your body being unable to do much, living by yourself all day for years. You'd probably feel like shit. Unless you're the type who doesn't ever need company. @Natalie The best you (and all of us) can do is doing that for your own family, grandparents/parents. That is if they are still around.
I literally started crying when the orange shirt lady said that she goes to restaurants for company because I’m right now at my grandma’s house to visit since she lives alone😢
I believe things were a little different when they were young. There wasn’t as much awareness about age gaps in relationships and people used to get married very young. My great grandma got married at 16 when my great grandfather was 23 or something. Yes I know that’s VERY strange to us but to them it was normal. She said that she doesn’t regret a thing though, they’re still together and happy as ever lol.
It actually surprises me how much “junk food” american seniors eat, I’m italian and my grandma is 90 and she never buys any snacks or carbonated beverages or things like that (nothing wrong with junk food, it’s just surprising to me)
Let's be honest, there is a lot wrong with junk food. I'm not Italian, but have been living in Italy for 6 years. Italians ( especially the older generation) have amazing diets, almost exclusively whole foods. Surely this is part of why Italy is ranked number 4, for longest life expectancy in the world...the US comes in at 38.
I am an American and we eat terribly here. Our McDonald’s drinks are the size of buckets. It’s typical to eat a burger and fries when you go out and we learn to eat it quickly, because there is little time to enjoy a meal when you have a 30 minute lunch break. The Italian, Mediterranean diet is really more ideal for the body, not soda, chips and tootsie rolls. :(
@@bangbutton8322 Maybe you can help me out here as an American. Are groceries in the US really this expensive or are they not showing everything the people bought? In Germany (where I'm from) $100/€95 could get you much more in terms of groceries, heck, they would probably last 1.5 - 2 weeks for your average family!
I had a feeling Mr. 98 was a farmer. His balanced diet shows and I'm happy his sense of humour is still as bright. There are a lot of sad/happy truths to growing up. I like how videos like these expose those to us. Another great video Cut.
But the younger people need that mattress too lmao at first I thought it was a response to everyone pointing out how uncomfortable they look on the floor,
It made me so sad to hear how often some of them ate alone. I grew up with only one grandparent, and we spoiled her the best we could until she passed away. Once I married my husband, who has two living grandparents, I have tried my best to put in the same effort with them as I would my own if she were still here. As they get older, they need us like we always needed them, so if you have living grandparents (also counts for parents, too!) and are on good terms, don’t let anything get in the way of showing them how much they matter 💕
I love them so much oml 😂 I love the clear sarcastic love they have, it's similar to mine and my partners, I hope if we grow old together that we will take the piss out of each other like that lol
"Why'd you wait so long" "She didnt say yes" "You never asked" "Yes I did" "Oh..." When I tell you I died from laughter😂😂😂💀 Dont get me started on Jimmy, I think I just found my grandaddys twin
I'm glad you produced this video and put it on RUclips. Most people don't seem interested or are not considering what seniors go through. With that said, the participants had good spirits and it was intriguing to hear about how life changed for them when they got older. I hope content like this spreads with other RUclipsrs so this group of people in our communities can get the support they need.
The lady in the orange sweater is the exact reason why i wanna work in a old folks home. I wanna fill that emptiness and give them the love they need. So sad 💕
It’s so heartbreaking hearing that they live alone and such. Growing up in my household, we always live together as a big family including my grandparents and even an aunt as well as my parents and siblings. We were raised to work super hard in order to look after our family. It’s incredibly sad when I heard that the lady in orange would invite her kids over and they wouldn’t. 😭
When this COVID mess is over and done, can I suggest spending more mealtimes with the older generations in your family or if you're distant (emotionally or physically) from your family, maybe find a senior in your community that would be more than happy to go out to lunch or dinner with you. Just a thought.
I tried this before the outbreak and ended up getting hit on by a lonely guy in his 70s when I wasn't even 30... idk if I'll reach out again to strangers, they're spoopy...
I remember my grandma always stacking up on all kinds of things for when the grandkids came over. When she got older she forgot about the stuff she already got in the house, so my sister and I would sneak into the kitchen getting rid of spoiled food so neither my grandma or her guests would get sick. Her freezer was huge too- filled with all kinds of ice cream.
"and after the war, what did you do?" "I raised chickens!" Oh bless his heart 😭😭💜💜 that was the cutest freaking thing ever! Much love from Arizona ❤️❤️
@bla because depending on the patient, they'd wear them even if they dont have covid-19 and also there are specific masks that actually help lower the risk but there is a shortage of them so they use regular ones even though it doesn't work.they are expensive too.
bla Because they work in an environment in which they can be coughed or sneezed on by hundreds of likely very ill patients per day, COVID can be spread easily though mucus droplets so it’s a precautionary measure to limit their exposure and prevent becoming infected and potentially spreading it to immunodeficient or high risk patients in their care. If the disease were to be spread by a doctor moving throughout a hospital it would be an absolute disaster and people could potentially die so medical workers make sure to take every precaution. Ordinary people going about their daily lives outside of hospital are at a much lower risk of exposure compared to a person working directly with infected patients so wearing a mask isn’t as necessary.
@bla masks only work well if used correctly, eg if they're disposable masks, doctors/nurses are supposed to use a different mask for each patient or each room, and you have to take the masks off properly otherwise it renders them ineffective
I like how they're lying down on mattresses with pillows and even pillows elevating their legs cause they're seniors. The other video with the college students, they're lying down on the floor😂
Sarelbi Hill I should have clarified. I love seniors In general, not because of what was said by him. I can totally see how it looks now that you’ve pointed it out. 😂😬☺️
I like that they included the mattresses for this one. Able to be conscious of their comfort and safety without taking away the compare and contrast aspect that makes these types of videos so interesting and educational.
I did my grandma’s shopping for almost 20 years until she passed at 96 years old. I watched her diet evolve over the years due to her lack of mobility. She loved grab and go and frozen meals because she wouldn’t have to stand for long periods to prepare. She was extremely independent with a quick wit and excellent memory. I miss her dearly. This video brought back memories, seeing the items these elderly folk would spend their money on (ie: tootsie rolls 😂)
The lady in orange 🍊 reminds me of myself.. I pray that’s not me in a few years but knowing my life it probably will be.. God willing my depression doesn’t take me out before.. she seems like a really sweet lady and her kids should cherish her more because life is short. Really short

@Natalie The best you (and all of us) can do is doing that for your own family, grandparents/parents. That is if they are still around.
@ɮᴇᴄφᴍɪnɢ me too kinda ahaha..
Adam WTF ??! You’ve no idea and u talking shit. How can you be so mean ?
You don't know her, it's wrong to judge people for just an interview
@Adam you must be her miserable absent son. 😆
The lady in the orange sweater was so sweet! But she’s lonely 😭. I lover her!!!!
I hope that lady’s kids see this video and start appreciating her more
I literally started crying when the orange shirt lady said that she goes to restaurants for company because I’m right now at my grandma’s house to visit since she lives alone😢
You're at your grandma's house to visit and then spend your time watching RUclips? Okay
@@Kath-Erina ??? her grandma could be sleeping or sth,,,, she'll not be with her grandma for 24h a day lol
4:24 "im okay ill always be okay" this lady is sooo cute i hope eveyone can say that at some point. 💕😊
“I used to pick ‘em young” 😳 okay Jimmy
Well now you know why older men like younger women. Especially when the age gap is more then ten years.
10-15 yrs sir
He did say he was a hustler😂
I believe things were a little different when they were young. There wasn’t as much awareness about age gaps in relationships and people used to get married very young. My great grandma got married at 16 when my great grandfather was 23 or something. Yes I know that’s VERY strange to us but to them it was normal. She said that she doesn’t regret a thing though, they’re still together and happy as ever lol.
@@kathymurguia6881 so they can take care of them when theyre old? No thanks fam.
when you guys lowered that guy on the bed it made my heart melt. Respect your elders yall. we can only hope to get to his age.
Guy in his 90s really knew how to spend his money
His food choices look tasty.
He's had time to learn.. lol
He eats healthier than me, makes me wana revise me choices
Which of them was it
I know! I didn't even notice the first time just how much food he got for the money!
When grandma in orange said "I invite them but they dont come alot" brokeeeeee meeeeeeeeeeeee
@@bltzthundi3244 that too! every time I watch these videos it seems like they get so little stuff in comparison to the price of it all
@@AngelicNastiness Yeah, I agree, I just didn't want to seem like I was coming for anybody but Jimmy's 30 cans of soda had me a little deceased
I had a feeling Mr. 98 was a farmer. His balanced diet shows and I'm happy his sense of humour is still as bright. There are a lot of sad/happy truths to growing up. I like how videos like these expose those to us. Another great video Cut.
Omg it's too cute there's a little mattress to support them aw
But the younger people need that mattress too lmao at first I thought it was a response to everyone pointing out how uncomfortable they look on the floor,

Jimmy: “I used to pick ‘em young”

So what do you do all day? "I watch TV." Young wife, watching TV, that is one happy happy man. Obviously, this arrangement is not for everyone though.
Damn, Jimmy eats like I college student😂
“damn you’re rich huh..” LMFAO!!! i love the couple!
I love them so much oml 😂 I love the clear sarcastic love they have, it's similar to mine and my partners, I hope if we grow old together that we will take the piss out of each other like that lol
"Why'd you wait so long"
"She didnt say yes"
"You never asked"
"Yes I did"
"Oh..."
When I tell you I died from laughter😂😂😂💀
Dont get me started on Jimmy, I think I just found my grandaddys twin
I like how they provided mattresses and pillows for comfort and helped them lay down if they needed it. Makes my heart happy
So sad 💕
The lady in the orange sweater is so soft spoken and sweet. Sad that she eats alone so much. I would love to sit down and share a meal with her.
that 98 yr old is adorable
The 98 year old is the sweetest man I’ve ever seen omg. He’s precious n he’s so knowledgeable about his food choices omgggg❤️

Tru tings
I would love to do that 😔
I tried this before the outbreak and ended up getting hit on by a lonely guy in his 70s when I wasn't even 30... idk if I'll reach out again to strangers, they're spoopy...
PROTECT THE 98 YEAR OLD MAN AT ALL COSTS
Protect all of them 😭

The 98 year old man has my heart. He reminds me so much of my grandmother, she passed away this February.
“yeah i use to pick em young” playa🤣
@bla because depending on the patient, they'd wear them even if they dont have covid-19 and also there are specific masks that actually help lower the risk but there is a shortage of them so they use regular ones even though it doesn't work.they are expensive too.
bla why are you shouting on a random comment? Stfu
bla Because they work in an environment in which they can be coughed or sneezed on by hundreds of likely very ill patients per day, COVID can be spread easily though mucus droplets so it’s a precautionary measure to limit their exposure and prevent becoming infected and potentially spreading it to immunodeficient or high risk patients in their care. If the disease were to be spread by a doctor moving throughout a hospital it would be an absolute disaster and people could potentially die so medical workers make sure to take every precaution. Ordinary people going about their daily lives outside of hospital are at a much lower risk of exposure compared to a person working directly with infected patients so wearing a mask isn’t as necessary.
bla also perhaps don’t spam other people’s comments like this, it’s quite rude and annoying.
@bla masks only work well if used correctly, eg if they're disposable masks, doctors/nurses are supposed to use a different mask for each patient or each room, and you have to take the masks off properly otherwise it renders them ineffective
I think the stress and all negative things i just went through this day suddenly disappeared after i watched this

I love how honest and vulnerable the woman in the orange was. :) :) You're a good human!

Lost my grandma this week... This warms my heart. ♥️
I like how they're lying down on mattresses with pillows and even pillows elevating their legs cause they're seniors. The other video with the college students, they're lying down on the floor😂
That older man who lives with his son in law and daughter is so sweet! Glad that he has people to care for him and spend time together.
i wish i could go out for brunch or coffee with Gertrude she seems so kinds i would love to keep her company and learn about her life :,)

I love seniors, they are such lovely people.
Umm how is that your reaction to that quote lol
Sarelbi Hill I should have clarified. I love seniors In general, not because of what was said by him. I can totally see how it looks now that you’ve pointed it out. 😂😬☺️
Kendall J uumm
Older folk have a special place in my heart.
I love how they give them a mattress to lay down on, thats so sweet!!
I like that they included the mattresses for this one. Able to be conscious of their comfort and safety without taking away the compare and contrast aspect that makes these types of videos so interesting and educational.
imagine even how alone they feel during this time
I did my grandma’s shopping for almost 20 years until she passed at 96 years old.
He said, “98, I think.” Cutest thing ever!!
The lady in orange 🍊 reminds me of myself.. I pray that’s not me in a few years but knowing my life it probably will be.. God willing my depression doesn’t take me out before.. she seems like a really sweet lady and her kids should cherish her more because life is short. Really short
I'm crying about the woman in orange. Oh my god :,(
