Hi guys, Anything I say or recommend is just my opinion, please do your own research and make upgrades that fit your needs and riding style. Also If I recommend a product its because I've used it and it works for me, not because I am paid or I want you to use it.
@CD Motors Sounds like you have a good handle on your bike, with proper maintenance and upgrades it should be very dependable. I read a story about the Briggs & Stratton race engines and they are the ones who say use the 4 stroke small engine oil. Its designed to not foam and to run at 250 to 350 degrees. Also they say to run the straight 30w, not the 10w -30w , unless you live in a severe low temp. region.
Would you be able to do a quick video of the stock air filter? Maybe some close ups of how it mounts and where it draws the air into from,And any possible replacement air filters out there for these carbs?
Hi Bullet Bikes, yeah I can do a quick video of the stock air filter, give me a short while and I'll do it. My air filter arrived damaged in the engine box, it was a small little hole in the side. It kept the cover from snapping tightly closed, I fixed it with a simple zip tie. I never told Gasbike about it as I didn't feel it was that big of a deal. I also had a smashed recoil starter from same engine box, I got ahold of Gas bike and they sent me a replacement in just a few days. I was one of the first to receive these bikes as I was the third to buy when they first offered. I also live in California where Gasbike, Kingsmotorbikes, has their stores. I was going to upgrade the air filter, just never got around to it, I'm not even sure if one is available.
Ive had this bike for 5 months here are my problems so far, first off locktight every single nut and bolt with blue locktight cuz they all back out especially the rear sprocket screws, second- ive locktighted the two bolts on each side that holds the pedals to the shaft and it always keeps getting loose, i finally just locktighted with red locktight this time but havent tested it yet. Back stock tires wore out after about 25 long rides, my new tire seems to be barely wewring out, change the stock breaks. Rear brakes using hydraulic kind will be tricky cuz the cable will be close to rubbing againat the motor driven chain. Put a spring operated chain tensioner "optional" on motor driven side. Also the float got stuck on mine causing the fuel to leak down into the cylinder which flooded the crankcase with gas and oil, i didnt think much of it and just changed the oil, took it out and rode it, than noticed engine oil splashed all around the side crank case, i found a blown crankcase gasket probably due to the fuel that leaked in there probably filling it up entirely whi h caused the pressure to blow the gasket, over all thow, this bike is great and super fun, gotta have handyman or some basic mechanical skills thow if you want to beable to maintain this. Also i took my hilliard extreme clutch off yesterday and the key is rounded out or busted off from the clutch, not sure if it was a seperate ket or if it was broken off from the clutch, its a aftermarket clutch that i heard people recomending.
I am assuming you have the 2020 model, because you mentioned the rear disc brake. The problems you encountered or typical for this bike. Everything needs lock tight and needs checked for tightness at regular intervals. The rear tire is a soft compound and very cheap, it will wear out so upgrading is a must. The Hilliard clutch is very smooth and performs well until it doesn't because of the builtin key wearing down or shearing off. The Max Torque garter spring clutch will work well. In fact the cheap Chinese clutch that comes stock is a poor copy of the Max Torque design. adam a gives very good advice upgrade your brakes, tires, clutch and even chains to better quality items and your Phatmoto will be more rewarding. If you can't turn a wrench or have some mechanical skills this bike will be frustrating for you, but you can learn how to maintain it. Thats to bad about the float sticking and flooding your engine, that is a problem that any and all carbs can have, but it can be fixed. Very good advice from this owner, he also states that the bike is fun. As with all motorized bikes they need regular maintenance, overall this bike is fun. Thanks for your comment, your experience and advice will help other owners with their bikes.
I think you are asking if there is a after market air filter for the stock carburetor. Not really, there was one offered by sickbike.com but have since stopped selling it. I have made my own custom filter. There is a clearance issue which prohibits most air filters from fitting.
I used to run an Hilliard Extreme Duty, I no longer recommend them as there have been numerous failures on the Phatmoto's. I recommend using the Max Torque clutch with the lower hp engines such as 2.5 to 5 hp.
@@catsbyondrepair The only manual clutch out there is the 3D Motorsports version, which just became available. They are more suited for more high performance apps, they are trick to get a smooth take off and maybe the friction discs wear out early. The Max Torque works very well. Right now I have a Hilliard race version with light race shoes and a spring combo that works well. Also this Hilliard comes with a heat treated, hardened hub.
I saw a video from a guy who has the Brigga & Stratton race kart. He actually said it gave him 2 more mph than car oil. I tried it and gained 1 mph on the Phatmoto, I don't know if it actually worked, but it makes sense to use the small engine oil. But, I think if you use any high quality oil you'll be okay.
Have you been adjusting the idle? You do know that there is a adjustment screw on the side of carburetor right. If it won't idle you probably have an issue with the carb.
Its just some 2x4 and 1x4 and a couple of 2x2 wood, held together with glue and wood screws, black paint. Its simple and practical for removing rear tire or doing chain repairs or maintenance. I've considered showing how I built it in a video, just haven't gotten around to it, to many projects. It is very handy especially for removing rear wheel.
I've got an easy 1500 miles on it now, the video was shot in April 2020. I figure I ride only 50 to 60 miles a month, that puts me easy at 1500. I never ride off road, never ride in rain and keep it cleaned and polished, adjusted and lubed, I wipe it down after every couple of rides and keep the paint touched up.
@@shancyroesner9212 Yes it can and does. It also corrodes the inside of the carb and it starts to breakdown within 2 weeks, it also attracts water. It also breaks down seals, gaskets and rubber hoses. You can't leave it in your engine for any length of time or it will cause start, run and performance issues.
Have you tried lubing the bushing and a clean up of the shoes and bell. It is possible that your clutch is so inferior that it can't be helped. Some come so poorly made that they are impossible to make it work.
@@jamieturnage4574 Give it a try, it should help, you'll need to do it at regular intervals. These stock Chinese clutches can be bought for $20.00 to $30.00 dollars so if you have to replace it, you won't go broke. A good quality Max Torque or will set you back about $40.00 to $65.00 but they are American made and use quality materials and use sound quality control measures. Good luck.......
@@jamieturnage4574 You can get them on Amazon, ebay, some of the go cart supply houses have them along with some specialty stores. Keep in mind the number of teeth on the clutch sprocket and the bore size and the chain size. If you have a 2019 model the chain size is a 415H. If you have the 2020 model (rear disc brake) it is a #35 chain. Both models are 5/8 bore on the crankshaft.

Hi do you know if this S6000ZZ Stainless Steel Ball Bearing 10x26x8mm will fit the Phatmoto wheels
I like how you explain about your bike i have one also a 2020 .
I like the bike a lot. It needs looking after, if you keep up on the maintenance it'll perform good for you. Thanks for watching.
