🤔this first time I give ring positive its a great device I was to able to monitor my elderly grandma I didn’t think twice does the job I know she feels more safe in her home in case something goes down the rest of the family will be alerted 🥺👍
I probably have 7 Wyze and 2 Ring batteries for where I don't have power and it always amazes me how Ring just doesn't seem to care anymore. My Wyze cam nighttime quality is amazing, Ring is almost unusable. I have a desktop app for Wyze on my computer, Ring got rid of theirs and now you have to login on their website. I love my Ring doorbell and it has been reliable but I am so sick of the crap quality it has. If cheap Wyze cameras can have great quality I don't understand why much more expensive Rings can't.
I have the original floodlight cam, only reason it's worth it to pay $49 year is because the app is good, it's not 24/7 recording but it allows you to scrub through the timeline with 30 second snapshots. For my doorbell camera I have Reolink, no monthly fee and 24/7 recording. It also has ethernet option which makes it jam proof. The app could use some improvement, and I did have to set the resolution lower than the 2k resolution it has to get it to record reliably. They may come out with a better version that has a more vertical field of view like ring has. I can also record to the cloud for free to get rich notifications by using the free 1 month trial which I extended to 13 months by switching servers every month.
I have crossed over to 25 ring stick up cameras this past prime day lol. $55 each was a great deal every July. $99 would be a rip off. Love these cameras. If you want 4K I would imagine you have to have very good internet upload and download speeds. I understand why ring is sticking with 1080 p but I still love it. It’s pretty good. I was paying $10.83 a month but when I get new cameras I use the free 30 day trial. So I will be good till Christmas for free for the service. Then I will probably get the $100 a year plan. If you want to get close to 24/7 recording I recommend getting a wired version for those important high traffic areas. It pretty much records all day at the max settings and no need to worry about charging etc. hard drives break down so I have learned. And also burglars could steal your hard drive system and then you won’t have any footage. So I’m a fan of this “cloud” saving the footage. It’s affordable to me compared to other plans from other companies. One thing I think is really important for security cameras is zoom lenses. Ability to zoom in on stuff. I wish ring had a camera like that. Pan tilt is also important. It would help not needing another camera to cover that area. I will probably stop at 25 cameras. But I always keep finding areas I say I need a camera here and there lol. I don’t understand how people dump on ring. I love them. I invested in this system. I’m kind of a security camera guru too. I’m still waiting for the drone!!!!
Hi life hacker, just wondering if you will do a review on the ring doorbell elite. I know it is an older device but it is the only Poe doorbell they sell and I am already invested in a ring ecosystem and I 100% agree with you that Ethernet cameras are better than WiFi. Thank you for your help.

I've been happy with Ring for years, We have 2 cams, alarm system, and some no-cam floodlights. I've only had 1 connection issue and 1 replaced camera. I have considered Eufy or reolink but I just don't want to purchase all new cams and a new alarm system. I have a few Wyze cams but they have never been very reliable. I only use those for places where I want to see whats happening but I'm not looking to record the activity. The Micro SD cards I orginally bought with them have long past crapped out. I won't be buying more ring products, but I'll hold off on another system till these die.
Definitely. Check out Eufy's pan and tilt cameras, Wyze cam Pan V3...and probably all other pan and tilt indoor cams in the market today are better than Ring's.
With the Ring Alarm, they are still pretty good. For security cameras, you can take a look at Eufy, Reolink, Tapo... All of them doesn't require a subscription.
@LifeHackster Yeah I have no issues with the alarm side. As a big tech guy, the fact they keep releasing "new" cameras in 2024 that are still 1080p just really makes me twitch🫠
@@Mpostor I know... Instead of focusing on the resolution of their cameras (which I think is a must for security cameras), they released this in different colors... hey, it is in 1080P but you can have it in nice Pink color... lol

I have had Ring since 2018 and upgraded to the Ring Pro hub and like it even more. Most people DON'T realize all this 4K camera quality is NOT going to ever catch the thief or person that has done damage from your "local" police! The WHOLE point of a camera is to notify/record activity around your place when you are NOT at home and contrary to most 1080p does this ALL DAY! Even the ability to "read"/record a license plate yields NOTHING when filing a police report as NOTHING ever happens and NOBODY gets brought to justice 95%+ of the time. So, what your point here?
@@WayneLiu945 All of these people on Nextdoor sharing their videos with their 4k cameras of their property being vandalized/stolen yet there have been NO arrests LOL
This crap is a slap in the face to consumers. No innovation from Ring what so ever in YEARS! Amazon is turning ring into the Blackberry of security cameras. Ring was IT! The "Doorbell camera" at one point in time and amazon acquired them and has been putting their chips All in on the Ring name/Brand for years but now consumers are a lot wyzer ( pun intended) and know there are other better, more affordable options on the market. It will not be long until Ring is no more. Wyze hardware is better and more affordable and allows the option to record 24/7 to SD card and offers more features with their subscription. However IMO Eufy is King and Reolink is a close 2nd due to excellent hardware and no subscription needed and a healthy portfolio of security camera offerings.

I like Wyze cameras better but switch to Ring cuz Wyze Alarm support is non existence. Ring customer Service is far better & excellent monitoring service. Ring Camera not bad but could be better.
Well, first off you can SET the camera to NOT record depending on your mode or schedule and that Ring has ALWAYS been this way since before 2019 so the "privacy" cover is useless at this point. Again people are SO bent on 2K or 4K and really you just want a record of activity and 1080P still gets the job done without stressing your router with unneeded bandwidth usage recording at the higher video rates because NOT everyone has 1Gb internet service and over a CELLULAR connection will NOT post at higher resolutions anyways! All these "factors" are considered to have a "stable" system running on internet or cellular backup. The Ring Pro Hub will keep non-Ring devices connected via. cellular backup too which NO other Alarm system can do that I know of.
Just to correct you..4K doesn't stress your router or your bandwidth if the recording is stored locally... You don't need a 1 gig internet either.. that is a myth. Your TV streaming Netflix or your kids playing are stressing your internet more than your security cameras ...unless you have Nest and paying for their 24/7 recording...even then the footage is highly compressed. The main issue with Ring is that they want cloud recording to get you into their subscription model..this is what is limiting them. Also, to correct you again..I can easily download the 4K recording of the events if needed like on my Reolink NVR using cellular connection (might take some time downloading) but it will still be full 4K resolution when done. You might have problems streaming 4K in low connection areas but when downloaded, it will be in full resolution. 1080P footage at 25-30 feet that you could barely recognize or identify faces is the reason why 4K is better... and as to the Ring PRO hub's internet connectivity backup... other alarms might not have it but if you have eero routers, they have that option too.
@@LifeHackster ; So your are trying to say a 4K video stream does NOT consume more bandwidth than a 1080P stream? REALLY?
