  • Part 1 of this 2 part series on Radiometric Testing focused on providing a solid foundation of radiometric concepts and definitions. This 2nd part will focus on the standard radiometric measurements that are performed and their formulas.
We start out by discussing the equipment required for these measurements (a calibrated blackbody and a target projector system). We then dive into calculating Noise Equivalent Radiance (NER), Noise Equivalent Power (NEP), Noise Equivalent Irradiance (NEI) also known as Noise Equivalent Flux Density (NEFD) and end with Specific Detectivity (also known as D-star or D*).
The discussion ends with a talk on some hidden assumptions which are used when performing these calculations as well as typical reasons to perform radiometric analysis.
