Thank you for your beautiful sharing. It's so precious to see someone sharing the Mische Technique on RUclips. Dit you took personal classes by Brigid. I met her a few times in Holland. Beautiful spirit. My question: Dit she work with Casein ? I never had personal classes with her, but used her description on her Website. White pigment and her painting medium for Mische Technique, Dammar, Linsed Oil and Terpentine, mixed with an egg.
Apologies I missed your comment! Yes! I studied with her and stayed at her home for weeks at a time. She did not work with casein but used Plaka, which is more readily available in the UK and Europe. I’ve used that myself as well for years and it’s very similar to casein. I always used either her egg tempera recipe (which I just published a video about) or the Plaka when I was with her and for years after. I just started with casein simply out of convenience- it’s impossible to make egg tempera from scratch with a baby around but now that he’s a toddler I can give it a try and Plaka is just harder and harder to order online.
So Interesting your sharing. So, her white underpainting is with plake a and not this self made eggtemera with pigment. That is what I learned from the recipe in her book. The question comes up in me, if plaka is as absorbing as the self made eggtempera and my 2nd question, is it easier to fine underpaintings with eggtempera or plaka. Question 3 Is casein the same than egg tempera ? Let me know, when you have an answer, only if you what to. There is always the option to just try it myself. 😊
@@SchramJavelin Plaka feels a bit drier, casein is more creamy and the egg tempera is thicker. Honestly they all have their strong points and weaknesses. I honestly would use the egg tempera though every time but life sometimes dictates otherwise so the other two options are great too
Wow, thank you, what a great answer. I definitely will explore plaka with Mische Technique.
Thanks so much.😊
After the first layer of casein I kinda already love it 😅
