Jake! Just wanted to chime in to say I bought your poster and it arrived last week and I love it! A big thanks to you and the fellow artists that put the work in to make it happen!
Thanks for the FRETASTIC link. I recognized all of the online fretboard clips you showed because I have also been searching for fretboard training charts. I've even written a few of my own fretboard tools. I took a quick look at this one and it does seem nice. One small thing, the pentatonic box numbers are not the same as the standard ones. Something worth checking out is the POW Music videos. He uses some great fretboard animations for illustrating licks.
Forgot to mention- You don't have to download fretastic, and it's usuable on damn near every device you can imagine. NEAT! If you have technical questions or issues, send them to the contact on the site please :)
This guy literally has a mode sheet/poster in his store and is advertising something that essentially provides his poster's information for free. That's how you know he isn't just here for fame, views, money, anything like that. He's here to teach, and a damn good job he does at it.
It's just a g7 but the harmonies hit the natural 7th... wtf? I wrote it without much planning but going back now I think that is kinda weird... The next chord is a f#7 with a #5, lovely altered dominant
This took a shitload of time and effort. Very well done. Point taken, and it is appreciated. Excellent work, especially considering the tech nightmares. When people get together and expand a simple concept, the results can be legendary.
Great video. Curious if you have been taking vocal lessons. Missed the usual apology for not being a vocalist and the singing seemed better in a somewhat ineffable way (maybe more confident?)
The site is NOT FREE btw. It charges 49 USD for all the features you have talked about in this video. I assume it was free for some time, but now this video feels like a scam and its really not pleasant to listen about smth good and "FREE" for 15 minutes only to find out the thing costs money.
Another amazing video Jake! You are one of the few people bringing me back to posting on RUclips again...I owe a LOT to you...nothing but respect and admiration my friend!
While I have nothing against reaper, I think this time it could have been solved by just using stem or wav files, without needing of cross compatibility
It's a combination of things. Use Reaper. Don't install updates. Ask for stems if you have incompatible software. And most importantly, take backups! I've got all my projects backed up in three places and I've had to dig into them more than once.
Sadly the tool, which looks very nice, is no longer free and has the monetization model I dislike the most - vampiric subscription. Looks nice, but no way. I'd pay like $14.99 on steam for a containerized desktop version tho.
But fretastic isnt free....if you try to use all of the functions that are mentioned in this video you have to 'GO PREMIUM'!....so it is just an advert, like all the rest.
Me and a friend of mine have an inside joke that you and and a couple other guitar teachers in RUclips are G O D S of music theory. And truth be told it's not untrue the stuff you teach is incredibly worded and truly helps to break down not only music theory and the song writing aspects but it's truly an inspiration and gets me in the mood to try and write stuff with the stuff I've learned. Thanks man, keep it up 💜💜💜
Damn, beat me to it. I was trying to make an app pretty much exactly like this but i didnt have enough coding knowledge! Got it partially but cant make it look as good, have the ideas in my head! Looks awesome, will go check it out!
Funny how small a world it is. As a musician and also a dev I am subscribed to Gary's design guide channel, but also see him sometimes posting Malmsteen play throughs and stuff on Facebook in guitar forums :D
One of the best scale applications video ever! That song is so catchy it reminds me of The Beatles, Frank Zappa and Ben Levin for sure 😄 Would still love to know how you made the scale sound musical. I have another question Jake and would love your help: I get lots of delay from my focusrite 2i2 3rd ed interface and I hear from different sources that I have to create 2 tracks in ableton 1audio in auto so the sound can be heard and a 2nd audio on off and to copy&paste the first audio onto the second track so there is no delays (still getting some so I will try lowering the buffer size too) What interface are you using to track your guitars and also how you deal with delays (settings), would love your help Jake. Also thanks for persevering through that whole Daw ordeal, great lesson and without your will we wouldn't get this awesome song that I didn't even know I would cherish so much. I LOVE EVERYTHING HERE and your vocals are so awesome because they create a sense of familiarity and also they're well done! thanks for the scale recommendation 😀 best ever 👍!!!
Very nice!! I was able to remove a couple of strings on the fretboard and it automatically changes it to a bass guitar! 4-string OR 5-string!! Very nice layout and ease of use!! Thanks dude!!
I've gone back to listen to this song 15 times now (as of posting this comment). I seriously LOOOVE IT!! And it's got me so excited to write again. Thanks so much, Jake. :D

Great video. Curious if you have been taking vocal lessons. Missed the usual apology for not being a vocalist and the singing seemed better in a somewhat ineffable way (maybe more confident?)
Ah thanks! It just happened to be in a register I can sing comfortably in, as well as a casual style that doesnt need any real technique.

The problem solving for technical problems is starting to use Reaper
Amen to that. I started off using Adobe audition 1.5 and reaper is the only thing that comes close to the functionality that I used to enjoy.
The problem solving for technical problems is to stop installing updates...
While I have nothing against reaper, I think this time it could have been solved by just using stem or wav files, without needing of cross compatibility
