Hey Scott, you tube took away all my notifications that I used to get for all your videos. You might want to announce that to everyone if you've notice a drop in views. I had to re check the bell 🤷🏼♂️🤘🤘
Awesome. That has everything I want from a solo, fast widdle bits, different tuplets, recurring motif, etc You really explain things so well, just ticks every box. More!
Your lessons are so smooth, it barely feels like an entire ten minutes has already passed. I just want it to keep going forever. Also, your sound quality of your playing is so refined, I want to hear more full-length songs, and maybe even throw this solo or other lesson compositions in there. That triplet sliding part was absolutely worth the additional effort; most satisfying part of the solo.
It's so great that you tab your lesson - it enables you to move along at a good pace and cover a lot more information - unlike most others on RUclips who want to narrate each note (slide the A string forth fret, up to... - drives me crazy. So, thank you. Great lesson.)
Hands down THE best guitar lessons from Jake and this one was truly exceptional for me. Helped me understand a concept to reference when I'm lost fudging my way through a solo. Thanks so much man! I'll be joining your Patreon, it would be rude not to with all the excellent content I've consumed. Killer solo too by the way 🤘🤘
I love your last remarks Jake about really writing and composing not just simply noodling expecting for something cool to pops up. Don’t get me wrong, sometime a good motif or melody pops up from noodling. Great lessons again as I am currently working on Lydian these days. Keep it up! Cheers!
Amazing content as always. But what I also appreciate a lot about your channel, are your editing skills. Flawless, even if you cut something I can't really tell. It is like you are live in front of me explaining stuff. That's why you are my only subscribed channel with the bell notifications on. Thank you very much for all your hard work! I learn a lot from you.
What? I might have misunderstood, but Mozart is known for being a pretty simplistic composer and relying on simple melodies and ABA structures. THat's why he's so famous, because it's really catchy and... I guess one could say accessible.
Great video as always. I want to point out something to all, especially beginners, notice the position of the left hand, it's perfect. That's the right way to place your hand if you want to play fast licks, straight with the thumb behind the neck. I mention it because I learned the wrong way 30 years ago, my thumb tend to go on top of the neck and I lose some range, my fingers are not straight with the frets. I try to correct this but it's a lot harder when you're used to it, so if you're just starting, pay attention to that, it will be beneficial on the long run.
Great job Jake! I learned a lot here...I love how you broke it down into digestible chunks. Always thought shredding just wasn't my cup of tea but now I think I'm gonna try to learn it via composition
Great lesson, well thought out. You're spot on when you mentioned rhythmic variation as that's definetely one of the key ways to make a shred solo interesting. One of my favorite guitarists is Vinnie Moore, I love his style of composing and there's no shortage of differing rhythms in his compositions. Makes things exciting because you really don't know what's coming up next in the tune so ya hang to listen to the whole thing. Again well done!
this is a super helpful lesson - I am literally dealing with this now with a song I am writing, and was struggling on my solo portion.... This will help a lot. - I am no shredder, but this is still helpful in writing concepts.
If asked, I’d say that your RUclips channel has taught me the most as far as music theory goes. Shredmaster Scott would be 2nd. I took lessons for years, but never learned anything besides technique.
Music theory for guitar, with Tomasso Zillio (Zillio, Lizzio... weird) for theory and such. Bernth for shredding tips. But Shred and Jake are so helpful and in-depth.
That was an amazing treatise on writing solos.. I've always considered creating the 'melodic path' for a solo; locked in and done the same each time.. and Petrucci is a master at this.. especially when keyboards and or bass are playing in unison (shifted octaves) or a full counterpoint between keys and guitar solos. The motif and retrograde motif is really awesome (even throwing in some negative harmony as another variation on the motif.. Great video, Jake, really well put.
Thanks so much for this lesson. I have spent months trying to make sense of where to place '3 note per string' runs, how to count them, and how to add them in solos. I see a lot of lessons on techniques, but never ideas like where to put them in the solo, or even how to use chord tones. Thanks again.
I am not only looking for shredding solos, i am looking for modern solos that i cannot find in any book. Nice melodic rock-solos, how to develope runs or sequences, that what i am looking for. But that video brought me to words i can type in google to find maybe what i am looking for. Google works much better depending from the words your type in. Please do more videos like this!
Great walk over the solo. I feel like I need to work on the motif idea, well noted, usually beginners and intermediate players just play a bunch of notes
Jake, Although you do a great job on all your videos, this one was exceptional. I always learn so much from your videos and can't wait to dive into these examples. Thanks so much for all that you do.
Wish I had this much music theory at my disposal. Never mind the skills to put it to use. Great work, love your videos and the way you explain it. Keep it up!
I love Shredmaster Shred's channel, too! Another fun thing to do, while playing in Lydian, is to play the Minor Pentatonic Scale from a half-step below the root note- in this case G# Minor Pentatonic for A Lydian. Instant Jazz Blues Fusion.
Is that a Kirk Hammett guitar I see? Perfect for metal shred. Either way, love your channel. I swore off music theory for the longest time becuase I thought I didn't need that. Now I'm coming back to learn so I can start to write songs. And you make it so much easier than I ever thought it would be
Wow, I realize you've improved your playing skill by quite a bunch since I started following you, kudos! Though be careful when claiming well known licks or techniques are "easy", it can be quite demotivating for beginners.
I just want to take time to let you know that I really appreciate the lessons you give and that head in the background. Shred's dead? Not anymore baby!
Hmm, this guy's channel seems to have a lot of videos with small #s of views yet the videos are wonderfully made and the way this guy explain is just superb.
Fuckin RIPPED it! Dude, that was super impressive. I love your transparency about 'faking' a part. Don't get that impostor syndrome about being an amazing guitarist and producer and teacher. Keep rocking!
Bad ass solo and killer analysis brother 🤘
Thanks for helping with this one Scott, it felt good to shred again \m/
How would Bach play that?

To me you are hands down the BEST guitar teacher on youtube
I hope to be able to buy your course soon.
Thank you for all the great content
There aren’t enough “thank yous” to express how grateful I am for learning from you, Jake. You’re the man.
Your lessons are so smooth, it barely feels like an entire ten minutes has already passed. I just want it to keep going forever.

Great content as always, Jake. Love the way you explain things and I dig the sound of that sliding lick a lot! Your breakdowns are always excellent.
What an incredible lesson! Really love your channel Jake, exceptional content and playing.

That intro was superb. And then you showed us how it was done. Utterly inspiring, thank you.
Maybe the best video on breaking down a shred solo. You really make it feel simple and achievable when you break it down!
Thanks Jake and the Patreons! And thanks for Shred's Shreducational inspiration.
I can't watch often and I really miss these videos.
this is probably the most helpful introduction to writing solos on youtube
I've been a subscriber of the Shred Master for a long time now. He and you both are excellent teachers and two of my favorites! Hands down.
I love your last remarks Jake about really writing and composing not just simply noodling expecting for something cool to pops up. Don’t get me wrong, sometime a good motif or melody pops up from noodling. Great lessons again as I am currently working on Lydian these days. Keep it up! Cheers!

"Avoid the trap of too many notes"
*Mozart has left the chat*
In his case it wasn't TOO many.
but more is more
What? I might have misunderstood, but Mozart is known for being a pretty simplistic composer and relying on simple melodies and ABA structures. THat's why he's so famous, because it's really catchy and... I guess one could say accessible.
I guess people are missing the reference from the movie lol
Some of you have never seen Amadeus and it shows. :-)
I watched this thinking I’d enjoy it but never actually be able to follow but this is incredibly well laid out

A+ dude, you make some killer content. Your ability to write cool stuff AND explain it well is rare.
Spectacular stuff, Jake!
I’m hoping this is the kind of solo that -once mastered-causes lightning to issue forth from the axe and summons a dragon 🐉
just steal other peoples solos or motifs and change them a little. boom you have a sick solo
LOL
Spamming a million mindless notes a second is my specialty tho ..... Someday I hope to be a real musician 😎
Have you listened to Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody?
Dragons are terrible roommates
Jack Lizzio = greatest RUclips teacher.

Lydian shred is my all time favorite thing now thanks to you 👌
I have never learned so much on guitar until watching these videos. I will definitely apply these concepts to my playing!!
The more I hear your solo…the more I enjoy it. Nice work!
Great solo Jake. It reminds me of "As time slips by" by the '80's shredder Vinnie moore.
Great lick and lesson THK U as always 😊
