Honestly, I don´t think about that. Just rehearsing these little nut-crackers in moderate tempo does enough for me, my goal is to open up sponaneous flexibility quite a bit :) The benefit of Chads series is the academic concept that makes theory easy to understand. I am sure, on the long run, it will melt into my playing.
Chad is a really great teacher, and for the first time has really identified the devices that everyone really wants to get better at and has created unique, beautiful and musical exercises. The fact that he plays SO well and can demonstrate everything SO musically, is really valuable
Keyboardist here. Great stuff, Chad. Like “keys to the kingdom” great. I’m more inspired to play and practice from this vid, than by any I’ve seen from a jazz keyboardist.
Chad explains things really well! I look forward to working on this! This is exactly what I have been wanting to learn and didn't know where to get the information.
Thanks for explaining so clear the mechanics and theory of play outside conciously!!! Besides your marvelous playing. Beautiful, relaxed and clean! Roberto Sion, senior saxophonist and teacher, Sao Paulo, Brasil.
Some eye opening licks on this I've been working through! An idea might be to do a series on individual standards and come up with 3 or 4 different solos and transpose them into all 12 keys. I think you said something on the importance of learning in other keys, something like that would be super valuable!
Hey thanks for free lessons. I think the inside pentatonic example is great for ... do you call it diatonic shifting? Got that one first from a Barry Harris advocate where you take phrase and move it through the the seven notes. Saw you taught that as well on video about making your own solos. Also the free concerts at Emmet Cohen!
Damn your Sound is soooo good!! Especially this mouthspiece in your setup makes that little difference on top!! Love your work man!! Keep it up :) Greetings from Germany
One question : why do you use Lydian augmented for your progression on triads?
Chad, Awesome sound! On a related note, you also play fast lines super clean (No key flubs). I would love to see you do a video on getting finger technique to sound clean at fast speeds.
How can one look at a chart that has an insane melody and pick out just a few notes in the measures to still play the song without having to learn exactly what is written?
Man, that was an awesome lesson. Really well delivered and what a great tone. I'll have to admit that my mind is blown by all the info but some great sounds. Do you have you tube footage playing live? Cheers from OZ
Question at 11:09, what is a F7 pentatonic? I've heard of maj and min pentatonics but never a 7th. So if there's an Eb in the F7 pentatonic, what are the scale notes? Brilliant lesson. I will buy the PDF.
F7 pentatonic= F G A C Eb, the notes are written in the sheet above the 'F7 pent' chord symbol (but in the order G C A F G Eb C F, remove doubles and use F as starting note👍)
How are you Chad, I am an immigrant in South Africa and cannot access a bank account online. I want to buy some pdf. Please tell me if there is another way I can deposit the money. Thanks🙏
If I have to improvise over C Dorian, what can I do to the licks that are shown in Bb in order to have them revolve around C as the tonic? Could I just shift every note up one note on their respective scales?
anthony glass the background vamp is staying on one chord the whole tome, the notes being played over it are outlining other chords to build different harmonic phrases. It still remains a one chord vamp due to the nature of the backing track.
@@kimhansen6384 It is. Saying that it isn't displays an obvious lack of knowledge of this music. Certain instruments are a lot more limiting when it comes to incredibly technical playing. Trombone being a prime example of that

Christ, how fast do you have to think to figure out that kind of voice leading in real time. Jazz guys are monsters.
you don't think as you play
You don’t, it just happens because you run it so much
You don't. He's practiced this stuff so much that he can call on the sounds when he hears them
It's kind of like talking. You don't think of each letter or word in a sentence, the same way as you don't think of each note or phrase when soloing.

You should have subtitled this video "How to Get Fired From a Country Club Gig". ;>)
I am sure Johnny Cash would have loved it !
Shredding on Mac the Knife.! Or N.Y.- N.Y...haaa..

This is the comment of the day 😅
These videos are honestly the most concise jazz improv lessons there are
one of the best jazz lessons in the world....

Thank you, Chad. I wouldnt have money to buy it, so I'm very glad to have this exercices available for free. Wish you the best.
I think that's the best mouthpiece he has now. Gives him a thick sound
Thanks for explaining so clear the mechanics and theory of play outside conciously!!! Besides your marvelous playing. Beautiful, relaxed and clean! Roberto Sion, senior saxophonist and teacher, Sao Paulo, Brasil.
Chad, we're so grateful for the quality education that you offer us on your channel! Thank you so much 😃😃

Chad for president of Bolivia.
Just in time for the next G7 summit
G7 Summit Except It's Just Chad LB Shredding On G7 Voicings While World Leaders Watch (ASMR)
you right we need a president like him to red rid of mcdonals and stuff
Oh shit, I just realised you said president of Bolivia because the first 16 bars of Bolivia by Cedar Walton are just G7.
We already have many reasons for Chad to be president of Bolivia
The 1/2 step substitutes are similar to what pianists and guitarists do on 1-chord vamps. Great ear-training!
This book seems awesome!! I’m definitely ordering it!! Chad is a beast!!
Freddy Mercury + Captain America = Chad LB
Thanks for your amazing work, bro....
Great lesson! Thank You very much. Chad!

i love I6/ #IVdim/ iimin7/ viidim/ moving through inversions descending to get so much melodic contour on any standard
Very cool licks man!
Amazing !!!
What a great sound! Great technique too! Awesome!!
Can we execute the same idea on the guitar?
No duh... it applies to any instrument

Merci beaucoup grand musicien
The saxophone is an amazing instrument and this from a keyboardist-drummer-guitarist

Nicely done. Interesting ideas...

play slow!
play slow!
very informative!
Thanks for share ! Master Monster!
Pure Gold.
Awesome stuff! Keep it coming 🎷😎😎😎😎🎷
Guitar player here but I will be incorporating these lines. Nice.
Holy shit wow! Thanks for laying this all out. Mad skills.
Thanks man! I screen shot those licks to take to the practice room 🙌
When your solo on Bb Maj 7 and side step down or up a half step does the bass stay on Bb?
Come to Europe!
Great stuff!!
How can one look at a chart that has an insane melody and pick out just a few notes in the measures to still play the song without having to learn exactly what is written?
How can anyone give thumbs down to free education? Some people, jeez...
Thanks Chad!!
Hey Chad, what would you say is the best way to practice by using these PDFs? Pick one exercise a day and really try to learn it in all 12 keys?
Awesome info !!!!
When are you playing in London?
Man, that was an awesome lesson. Really well delivered and what a great tone. I'll have to admit that my mind is blown by all the info but some great sounds. Do you have you tube footage playing live?

So dope homie.

i gotta ask, do you write it before playing, or do you transcribe what you just played?
you are amazing
great info
thanks Chad!
great info!

Yes, thank you!!

I like to buy that
as the book ! is that possible ?
Super informative!!
I like what I'm hearing
At 8:18 the the seventh 8th note in the first mesure should be an F, not a F-flat as written. You play an F, not F-flat as written.
How to shred over one chord vamps: be Chad LB
😆
In a sense, by developing phrases based upon several new chords , are you not defeating the claimed "one chord" vamp ?
anthony glass the background vamp is staying on one chord the whole tome, the notes being played over it are outlining other chords to build different harmonic phrases. It still remains a one chord vamp due to the nature of the backing track.
Are you ever going to get these printed/published? Because if you made either one big book or a series of smaller ones I would buy in a heartbeat.
He sells them on his website!
already a book :)
Hi Chad, are the phrases you played in the beginning are included in the pdf?
11:28 5:07
3:45 within the D7b9 shouldn't it be an Eb instead of an E then?
There's already an Eb at the beginning of the measure so the accidental still applies
Bobby Bop well of course, thanks 👍
I’m having dificulta opening Thetracks
Thanks for letting us know, Dario! Email info@jazzlessonvideos.com and we’ll be happy to assist!
This is above my pay grade
Woow~ nice!
Chad, is this stuff good for piano improv as well??
Why shouldn´t it be? Improvisation is not instrument specific.
Kim Hansen It is for trombone...
@@AmruthNiranjan99 Why is that?
@@AmruthNiranjan99 I mean the way you improvise is not instrument specific. Transpose it if you need to.
