- www.VideoJoeKno... How to fix a leaking refrigerator ice maker water line (Part 4) is easy...when you know how. Joe has a refrigerator that is sporadically leaking & he thinks it's coming from the ice maker. someone saw a pin hole in the water line to the ice maker so "joe" at least knows the water line from the ice maker has to be repaired no matter what. So that's the first thing "joe" will tackle. Hopefully this how to fix/repair will prevent the refrigerator ice maker from leaking any more....but if it doesn't, at least that repair will be done before "joe" has to call in the big boys (errrrggg) to check out the refrigerator ice maker to see what in tarnation is going on with this water leak! Joe has prepared this instructional how to video series with you in mind....?

Many thanks for the video.
this was part 4 of the video series. If you watch all the parts then you will learn more for sure! Thanks for watching VideoJoe!
Congratulations ! Thank you
Thanks for your message...a year ago!
I have an LG refrigerator that developed a pin hole leak in the white 5/16 inch water line. I was able to locate and mark the leak site.I cut out this segment[about 3/4''] with a Stanley knife after turning the house water off.I used a 5/16" John Guest compression coupling from Home Depot to replace this segment and connect the water line.Be sure and press the cut line ends firmly into the coupling .I also pulled on the lines to be sure they were firmly anchored.
When cutting the lines ,I put a small piece of wood behind the line to act as a cutting board and cut the line at a right angle. Ater finishing -turned house water on and tested for leaks by running the water dispenser.Repair worked great.
Thanks for the video instructions
I was thinking the same thing as what you did. Glad to hear it worked for you. Wish me luck!
@@bruceccorwin It worked for a while then the connector started seeping . I bought a new connector and again delayed seeping. I ended up going to home depot and buying the tubing and did a complete replacement.More involved but has worked well.I don"t know why the connector developed delayed seeping.Maybe the tubing end needs a inside stiffner.
Awesome job with your repairs. Thumbs up!
How did it go?
Hmmmm I have never heard of one of the couplings like I show in the video ever leaking & I purchased it at The Home Depot too.
Well, I seem to be late to the party, but great videos, nonetheless! My fridge's water line is leaking in nearly the exact same place as yours. The only way we noticed the leak was we happened to be in our basement one day and noticed a few drops of water coming down through the basement ceiling. The leak was intermittent, just as yours was, but upon further investigation, I was able to get mine to leak simply by filling a cup with water at the fridge door. I pulled my fridge out to investigate, had my son fill his cup of water at the fridge door, and took a bath. :) I am going to try and purchase the parts you showed and see if I can't resolve this myself. Thank you for a straightforward, cost-efficient solution!
Did it work??
Emily K it worked like a champ!
Did you get it repaired on your own? How did it go?
@@VideoJoeKnows yes, I got it repaired! I was able to cut the small section of water line out where the split was and reconnect it with the coupler. Literally took about 60 seconds in total work time. Good as new.
@@jay_rojas Awesome! Thanks for the update!
Thanks for this video !
Glad it helped out!
Great videos, it creates a sense of pride to fix things yourself. Note , the valve, where this tubing comes from, should have the same connector, you could have just cut once and saved a splice(maybe). A kludge would be to tape the hose with sealant tape but if your splices work I would have rolled it back and not given it a second thought. I am dealing with a similar issue and diagnosing the it is the hardest part! That is why I am here, watching your videos, years after you created them. Is it the ice maker, the valve, the drain hose, the inlet hose etc, once that is determined fixing seems like the easy part - just spend the money and watch RUclips videos.

I paid Sears to do the same thing you did and they charged me $125 and told me that those 2 little thingies you used cost $50. Wish I would have watched this video first. Oh well... Now I know for the next time. 😣😣
Yes that little coupling didn't really cost that much & I know for a fact it was no where close to $50. Sorry you didn't find this video sooner! Hi. On a GE Profile Side by Side PSC23SGMDBS, I would like to turn the water/ice dispenser off totally BUT I'd like to keep the ice maker working. Is that possible? Can I cap the water line under the refrigerator? I prefer to just open the freezer door for ice. Hate the noise, hate the endless leaks, freezer not staying cold enough. I've had three repairs just on the dispenser. Not worth it. It's such an unnecessary feature on an otherwise ok refrigerator.
RosieCa Not sure if that is possible. May I make a suggestion. Go to your local box hardware store or any local hardware store & ask a sales person in the appliance area what you would like to do. If they don't know then you may need to find a store that just sells appliances let's say & ask them. They could look up your model number & see on the computer how the water line is interconnected to your ice maker & see if they can figure it out. If all else fails you could call an appliance service tech & ask him over the phone what they think. I had this same issue happen on my refrigerator & I had an appliance service tech friend who came over & disconnected the water right at the refrigerator door or was it he just took the paddle arm off so you couldn't push it to fill up a glass of water. That may not in fact help you with your issue however so I'd hate to give you the wrong info here. Good luck & if you find out how to do it let me know what you ended up doing. I would appreciate it! Thanks for your message. Joe :0
We have repaired our Samsung numerous times and now it is leaking right where the line goes into the refrigerator. Is there any repairing this now? The plastic coupling is all the way up to within an inch of the insertion site. Thanks!
I guess you could install a second coupling down where the leak is. What did you end up doing?
My husband doesn't recall. He says he fixed it! We have since purchased another Samsung. @@VideoJoeKnows
Joe, Thanks for your reply. I've had 3 service calls over the past 2 years - I just don't want to have to get rid of the whole refrig for this useless "convenience".
RosieCa Not sure if you have any choice. I had a nice double wide whirlpool refrigerator that was about 4 or 5 years old with an ice maker issue that I could never get resolved. sometimes the refrigerator would leak underneath & onto the floor then other times it was fine. of course anytime I had a service tech there it would not leak! Then he tried to disarm the paddle on the water filler & it still had door ice issues to everytime I tried to open the freezer it was all iced up & was hard to open the door without ripping any plastic off the ice maker container. I finally turned off the entire water & was only going to make ice with ice cube holders (there's an idea for you) but somehow it still was icing over even with the entire water source turned off. It would leak on the floor periodically & then the person on the ground floor was saying they could see a leak on their ceiling thinking it was caused by my refrigerator! I finally said fooey on everything & chucked the refrigerator & got a new one without any water attachments at all. Now I make the ice with the ice cube trays & no more pesky expensive services calls!
This video is o.k. a little helpful, but couldn't see a lot of the steps your were talking about. A lot of talking. And I wanted you to UNPLUG the fridge.
Hmmm I guess I thought I didn't need to unplug the refrigerator...? Anyway this was part 4 of the video series & if you still want to see the other 3 parts then you can go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to refrigerator I believe. Thanks for your message.
