If you visit Mexico City, you really shouldn't miss seeing the Zócalo and surrounding area. It's a giant plaza with the Metropolitan Cathedral standing tall above it. This has long been a sacred place in Mexico City as it was built upon the site of the Aztec Templo Mayor. If you feel like a pit stop, I suggest grabbing a bite to eat at the nearby Sanborns flagship restaurant. It's a huge Mexican chain (try the chicken soup and guacamole with chips! My personal favourite. Buen provecho!). It's not so much about the food, however, as the building it's in: Casa de los Azujelos or 'House of Tiles', an eighteenth century palace. You'll recognize it right away from the blue and white tiles covering the exterior walls. After that it's only a couple of minutes walk to Mexico City's central post office or Palacio de Correos de Mexico. This is one of my favourite buildings - absolutely stunning architecture with eclectic design. The bronze railings were cast in Florence and you can take gorgeous photos here or mail your postcards! Alameda Central Park is just across the street and behind the Palacio de Bellas Artes. I LOVE the parks in Mexico City and this is one of my favourites. You'll find beautiful fountains, trees, and people enjoying the outdoor space. This used to be an Aztec marketplace before becoming a park. We were excited to find a spontaneous hip-hop battle going on that we stayed to watch. Within view of the park and just across the street is the Latin American Tower or Torre Latinoamericano. It is well known for surviving earthquakes thanks to its brilliant engineering. At 44 stories, it was the tallest building in all of Latin America when it was built in 1956. You can get a ticket in the lobby to go to the observation deck for a view. Finish up your day around the Zócalo with a night performance of the Ballet Folklórico de Mexico at the Bellas Artes. Get your tickets in advance as it's very popular and with good reason. You'll experience traditional dances, costumes, and music from all around Mexico. It's super entertaining and a great cultural experience. I absolutely loved it!
I hope you enjoy this video and find it helpful! What do you think of these places and what your favourite places to check out in and around the Zócalo?

Have you been to these places? What are your favourite spots in and around the Zócalo?
Favorite spot is Palacio de Bellas Artes!
I love Palacio de Bellas Artes and walking through Madero Street.
By the way last week we host a festival called: "Feria de las Culturas Amigas" with products, food and shows from all around the world, it's an anual exposition. Hope you had the chance to see a little bit of it.

Next to Sanborns restaurant and shop there is a brazilian buffet very recommendable
I have been in all of them, really beautiful places.
Wow! U really make me want to go to Mexico City 👣
You are gonna love it :D
Go! ;) It's an amazing city.
A great video and learning experience! I’m learning there is so much more there than I might have imagined!
There is great beauty….talent in so many forms…. a deep culture….world class architecture….people that are gracious and happy…
….a zest for living and celebrating….a way of life that might be envied by many. Gracias Mexico!
YES! It's such an incredible country! So glad you're enjoying the videos!
I really enjoy the fact that you don't just go to places and walk around but actually take the time to explain each place.
Hey Marco! Thank you! I try my best :)
every time I see one of your videos, it makes me want to go to Mexico city even more.
I hope you will! It's an awesome place!
I looove the way you talk about my country, you sure make me feel homesick when I look at your videos, I enjoy the way you explore and explain how to go about the city and the places you have been, I grew up in la Zona Rosa and went to school in la Condesa, been away for too many years! But you definitely bring me back!! Please don't stop! Gracias
Hi Ramses! Thank you! It means a lot to know you're enjoying my videos. Mexico City is such an amazing place and I fell in love with it :) I hope you're enjoying the Colombia videos too!
Im proud of being Mexican/Canadian... CANADA & MEXICO the jewels of North America 👏👍 Great videos definitely I suscribed :) Orgullosamente mexico-canadiense ... viajen a Canada es un muy lindo país .
Hi and nice to e-meet you :) Thanks for subscribing and commenting!
I highly recommend the free walking tour around Centro with Estacion Tours - we started in front of the Cathedral and walked for 3 hours - including all the sites in your video. Our guide was a cultural anthropology student - I cannot believe how much we learned in 3 hours: history, culture, architecture, cuisine, politics. It was a great intro to CDMX!
Thanks for the suggestion! I LOVE walking tours too but didn't do one in CDMX. We did one in Medellín that we really enjoyed though! :)
You sure get around.....thanks for sharing these awesome places.
haha we try! Thanks so much for watching!

Hola Si te gusta México...a mi me encanta Canadá...
I like the style you apply to the narrative in your short films. You do not get political or sensationalistic like nearly all american travel documentalists
Hey Yomero, Glad you're enjoying my videos and hope you enjoy the Colombia ones now too. I'm Canadian :)
I'm so glad you are enjoiying this beautiful city. I hope your fantastic work inspires other people to visit Mexico City.
I hope so too :) I fell in love with CDMX!

as an architecture student I really enjoyed your videos. I love your cultural perspective. Greetings from Peru.
Thanks so much and greetings to you in Peru! I REALLY want to visit Peru someday :) That's so cool you're studying architecture. If you haven't seen it before, you may be interested in the architecture of the amazing library I visited in Mexico City: ruclips.net/video/5End92EJAlY/видео.html I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on it.
Great really helpful video, looking forward to visiting CDMX!
Thank you! CDMX is one of my favourite cities in the entire world. Truly, truly fantastic. We made a lot of other videos about CDMX if you'd like to see as you plan your trip - they're here: bit.ly/CDMXPlaylist Have a wonderful time and please have some churros and tacos for me 😊
I love that your captured that rap battle! Your videos are always helpful!
It's giving my husband and me so many ideas for our trip!
Thank you!
The rap battle was so great! I couldn't understand much but loved listening nonetheless ;)
I was just in Mexico City 10 days ago and did every single thing in this video! It was all wonderful - thank you so much for all the suggestions!! We also went to the Palacio National and enjoyed Diego Rivera's murals, and checked out Templo Mayor. The walk from the Zocalo to Bellas Artes was really fun too because it was an all-pedestrian street. Although we didn't get to eat at Sanborn's because were short on time, we did go inside to take a peek and it looked awesome! Directly across from it was a pretty impressive Dali exhibit! And I went to the cafe on the 8th floor of Sears across from Bellas Artes. It was tucked away in the furniture section but I found it! After Alameda Central, I walked to the Monument of the Revolution and took an elevator to the top and I highly recommend that. All this was on a Sunday so the streets were closed to traffic which made my walk extremely pleasant! I capped off the day with a visit to Chapultapec Castle and made the hard climb up to the castle itself. But it was so well worth it! The previous day, I went to Teotihuacan in the daytime and went to Lucha Libre that night! It was a very fulfilling trip. I should also mention that I walked along Reforma and enjoyed the Angel and also the Diana fountain. I would like to return so that I can go to Xochimilco next time and I'd also love to visit Museo Soumaya. I was bummed that I didn't get to those on this trip, but we were only there for 2.5 days....
Wow, Amisha, you packed a lot into 2.5 days which is fantastic! I also enjoyed walking down that pedestrian street - great people watching :) Sounds like you had an absolutely wonderful time in Mexico City - I'm so happy to hear it! 👏🏻
Cool. Im staying walking distance from Zocalo. Def on my list.
Awesome! What a great location. Eeeee I'm thinking about it all and feeling excited for you! :)
Visiting CDMX next week!!
That's so exciting! Have an amazing time and please have a taco for me! ;)
Eileen Aldis absolutely! You are after all part of the inspiration that got me to pull the trigger and plan my trip.
That makes me SO happy to hear! Where are you visiting CDMX from? I hope my videos are helpful and that you have as incredible a time as I did! :)
Eileen Aldis Austin ,Texas. Oh without a doubt they will be helpful. I love coffee so the places you stopped at are def on my list.
I really want to visit Austin! I'd love to do a road trip through Texas someday. Waco is also high on the list of stops. If you love coffee you'd probably enjoy the video I just posted about touring a Colombian coffee farm. It was so cool.
Great Mexico videos!
Thanks so much, Miguel! I'm glad you're enjoying them! Mexico is a very special place for us ❤️
I like your videos. They are very informative
Thank you! That makes us happy to hear :)
Thank you for coming 💙
Hi Karen! Thanks for your lovely comment :) I had an amazing time and loved it.
Great video! Thank you for speaking well of our city
Thank you! We made a series in CDMX if you'd like to see more: bit.ly/CDMXPlaylist :) Hope you enjoy!
The historic center is such a fun place. Just up the street from Azulejos along 5 de Mayo is La Opera bar. You might get a kick out of it as it is known for a bullet hole on the ceiling - courtesy of Pancho Villa. Lots of history and I think you will like it.
Hey Raul! Yeah, such a great area! That bar sounds like a place I would love - you're right :) Another thing I need to go back for...!
Thanks for sharing this awesome video about my beloved CDMX :)
Hey Gabriel! Happy you liked this video :)
One of the best places in all Ciudad de México
Such a fun area to explore.
Eileen Aldis By the way, have you ever been interested in the new Disney-Pixar film Coco? It will talk about El Día de Muertos and México, and it seems filmmakers did a great work about their research about references of art, customs, traditions, music, architecture and so on about Mexican culture. I've seen a lot of references about architecture founded in places such as Ciudad de México, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Morelia and Oaxaca. I bet you'll enjoy the film since you're more into México than anyone in the U.S. or Canada :)
I remember seeing the trailer somewhere a while back and thinking it looked cool! Thanks for reminding me :)
Don't forget to mention that on the top floor of the Palacio Postal is the Naval Museum maintained by the Mexican Navy, and it's free. Also, the Centro Historico is teaming with great museums, like the Colegio de San Idelfonso, the Museo Nacional de Arte (Munal) and the Franz Mayer Museum (and collection).
Thanks for the recommendations! There are so many great museums in CDMX.
The Zocalo Square is one place I would to check out in Mexico City but especially the Metropolitan Cathedral
That's great! We love Mexico City. Are there any other place you'd like to visit or you'd recommend? We've made a lot of videos about the city if you'd like to see more - they're here: bit.ly/CDMXPlaylist :)
good bye Way Away! Hello Eileen Aldis 😃
Eileen también ya se fue de México.
serio? lo bueno que todavia sube videos de Mexico
Sí, echo de menos México y esperamos volver algún día! Mis nuevos videos son de Colombia :)
When I view your postings I am reminded much I have taken Mexico City for granted over the years. Mexico City has always been a fly-in and drive out to my destination process. No more. I am becoming a bit of an expert thru your postings and anticipate booking a flight for me and my children in the next few months. Many thanks for opening my eyes, Eileen.
Hi Mylon! That's incredible to hear and makes me very happy because I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time in Mexico City and hope you'll enjoy your visit as much as I did :) Do you think you'll go this summer or fall maybe? Please feel free to email me at eileenaldis@gmail.com if I can be of any help :)
We will be visiting Aguascalientes late this summer. It's cheaper for us to fly into Mexico City and take a buss than fly into Auguas (its a long ride but worth it). We are planning to add a couple days on the end of our visit to spend in MC. Thank you for your offer to reach out via email. We appreciate that.
That sounds like a wonderful trip. I'm sure you'll see a lot of cool scenery on the bus ride. Hope you have a great visit!
I should see lots of scenery on the buss ride but due to my less than great Spanish, I find myself captivated by watching the in-buss movie which always seems to be in English w/Spanish sub-titles. This is a great way to learn Spanish (for me anyway). During every buss ride I've been on in Mexico I missed all the sights because I am a "fly to the screen" with the in-buss movie. Know what I mean?
haha I definitely know what you mean. Sometimes it's hard to look away! I agree that watching movies with subtitles is a great way to learn a language.
excelent excelent video like always!! :) youre a pretty mexican of a clean soul
Thank you so much :)
I really like your videos ..👌🏻👍🏼
I'm so glad, Roberto! Thank you!
you need to go to the basilica de guadalupe and the villita and other amazing place to visit in CDMX
There are lots of places we didn't get to visit this time around. Thanks for the recommendations!

Thank you! I did visit there and loved it! It's featured in this video if you want to check it out: ruclips.net/video/HUQ4QyGsGiY/видео.html :)
Im love this video
Thank you! Happy to hear that ❤️
Beautiful zocalo .. Excellent video 👍🏼
Thanks a lot, Roberto!
Did you go up to the observation deck? Love the ballet!
No, we didn't end up doing that because I loved the view from the cafe across from Bellas Artes already ;) The dancing was unforgettable. So glad we saw it.

Your thumbnails are always so epic. Did you get a chance to see a soccer game in any of the big stadiums?
Thank you :) No, we didn't get to a soccer game but it would've been fun!
Nice review! Congrats! Funny thing, i saw my sister in your video (she dances at bellas artes palace)
Are you serious?? That's amazing!! She must be an incredible dancer because they all were! I'm blown away by how cool that it is! :)

By the way the national sport in México is La Charreria *3:53
Nice video, I love Palacio Postal.
Hi Miguel! Ah ok so that's what the dance is about? Thanks for sharing that! Isn't the Palacio Postal stunning? I absolutely loved it.
Any suggestions on hotels to stay near the zocalo?
Hi Abel! Unfortunately, I can't recommend any hotels near the zocalo as we stayed in Airbnbs around Roma Norte.
You can go to the roof of the Catedral for amazing views, The Templo Mayor, Palacio de Gobierno
Hello and thanks for those recommendations! I know someone who went to the top of the cathedral and it looked like a lovely view :)

You should visit El Cerro Del Cubilete "aka" (Cristo Rey)>(Christ the King) one of the most historically important religious shrines in Mexico. The statue serves as a "rebuke to the suppressors of religious freedom" who sought to quash the Church during the persecution of Christians in Mexico during the first half of the twentieth century. The church sits at 8,900 ft in a mountain in Silao Municipality in Guanajuato, Mexico.
Hey Juan, I wish I'd known about this sooner because I visited Guanajuato but didn't see the statue. Thanks for the recommendation! If you're interested in those Guanajuato videos they're here: ruclips.net/video/S1_ENelSbEM/видео.html
Guanajuato is my home state I watched all of them🙂 you are welcome to come back whenever
La Torre latinoamericana it was build in 1958 and not in 1956 like you said
Their official website says 1956. Here's the link if you'd like to read more about its history: torrelatinoamericana.com.mx/historia/
