- I took a bus from Mexico City to explore the ancient ruins of the pyramids of Teotihuacan! This UNESCO World Heritage Site is absolutely massive and contains the enormous Pyramid of the Sun, one of the largest pyramids in the world. My personal favourite was the Pyramid of the Moon! I climbed the very steep steps to get a view from the top that looks out over the whole complex and straight down the Avenue of the Dead. These pyramids remain largely a mystery and exactly who built them is open to discussion. Whoever built them, however, was at least one thousand years before the Aztecs! They left behind some incredible ruins for us to look at in wonder. If you're planning a trip, you can take a short (one hour) bus ride from Mexico City for 100 pesos return. There is no shade so I'd bring a hat or umbrella, sunscreen, water, snacks, and comfortable walking shoes as the ground is very uneven and you'll want to be able to climb. Hi Gerardo! Yes, I have and I LOVED it. What an incredible place to see and the history is unbelievable. One of my favourite parts was seeing where they played the game with the ball. I'm glad I got to visit there :)

That's amazing! You must've really conquered your fear of heights because it's STEEP! I think even people who are more ok with heights would be freaked out! I'm glad you had a good time too. We were lucky that it was cloudy the day we went but it would be VERY hot without any shade there.

That jaguar-sounding whistle is known as "the breath of death" and was used by Aztec warriors when attacking their enemies, they used a lot of smoke and that sound, to terrorize opponents

Thank you and that is awesome! I hope you have a great time! No, we took the bus from the north bus station in Mexico City and returned the same way. The bus dropped us off right by the entrance to the site and picked us up in the same spot which was very convenient and a great value for the bus cost. Also, we weren't able to go due to timing, but there's a really cool looking restaurant there that, if you haven't heard of yet, you should try to check out! It's called La Gruta and it's in a cave! lagruta.mx/

You have to go to Ciudad Universitaria UNAM.. once you are there you have to check the soccer stadium, its a piece of art. Also you can check the library. There is an amazing mural!

I see.. Cdmx is full of cultural activities. I like to experience all that.Its nice you can go to the most visited places for tourists but if you go more deeper you are going to find a lot of fun. New ways to live the city. For example if you go to experience music concerts, going to theaters or night life etc etc. I like your videos i hope you can come back any time soon.

There is an awesome store near there called Artesanias Premier. They got all kinds of high quality hand made stuff including jewelry, rock ornaments, and more. I got me a very big Aztec calendar made of cloth, very colorful. It looks awesome.

That's so cool, Susan! There are a lot of tourists these days but less so in the morning before the tour buses arrive :) The Pyramid of the Sun is incredibly large and imposing. Amazing to imagine its being built!

did you visit Chichen Itza? we went to Teotihuacan recently, i did enjoy chichen itza more even though i prefer the Aztec History more. it does get a bit crowded getting on the temples which makes it harder going up :P
Yes, we were there in 2008 and I agree with you that I preferred it to visiting Teotihuacan, although both have incredible stories. We also visited Cobá which we were able to climb and also really enjoyed :)

How much did the enternece cost and which bus did u take ?
A friend of mine in Mexico told me it was expensive to visit the pyramids, but wasn't sure of the price. How much did it cost you in pesos?
Hi Renee! I didn't find it expensive at all. The roundtrip bus ticket from Mexico City is 100 pesos and 70 pesos to get in. So one person can go for 170 pesos which is just over $12 CAD. Well worth it! It can be much more if you go with a tour so perhaps that's what your friend was referring to.

There's a beautiful pyramid peacefully living in teotihuacan. It is modest in size But it makes up for it Thanks to the Beautifully Artistic Facade . His name is the Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent! And it has Huge Quetzalcoatl Head sculptures blooming out of it, It is decorated with seashells and also has Tlaloc (⬅ Rain/Water god i think) sculptures. I mention itBecause i usually never ever See it on teotihuacan blogs, And i'm curious about if people see it or miss it.
Hi! Wow, that sounds like a beautiful pyramid but unfortunately I didn't see it. We ran out of time to see more but I'm sure there was a lot that we missed as it's such a big place! My favourite that we saw was the Pyramid of the Moon and it was also really cool to see the cat mural :)
Moño Sembello the reason it's because the distance you have to walk like a mile or more to the other side of moon pyramid down on the dead walk but It's the most impressive and detail pyramid also has an square surrounded that can be flooded which was used to represent the myth of creation.

Te refieres a Tenochtitlán, fundada por los aztecas, esta es Teotihuacán, es otra ciudad, ya existía cuando llegaron los aztecas en su búsqueda de donde fundar su ciudad.

Teotihuacan is in the state of Mexico not the state of the federal district.
Don't go Sundays is free for Nationals. This is under the sun, waiting on line for 2 hours is not fun and you will get a headache will not enjoy it. Go during the week.

@@EileenAldis Yeah, I have been reading this Swiss writer Erich von Däniken lately. He thinks that there is a good propability that Teotihuacan pyramids are made by extraterrestials and one of his thoughts are that the Teotihuacan might be some kind of abandoned airport if I remember it correct. I found it intresting detail that you said that the stairs were very big and hard to move on. You know there's some giants even in the Bible.

I love that building - it's actually one of my favourites in the city! We tried to go up one night but it was late and unfortunately we didn't get to go up but I did get some other great views of the city to see the skyline :) I loved having a coffee at the Sears patio across from Bellas Artes where you can see the tower from nearby too!

Hi Sergio, Researchers believe it was constructed at least a thousand years before the Aztecs. There seems to be a lot of debate about who it was. Either way, it's incredible to see and extremely old!

Hi, Sergio! Eileen and Armando are right. In fact, the term "Aztec" is not correct. The correct term is "mexica" or "mexicas" (the X is pronounced "sh"). The Aztecs lived in Aztlán ("the place of the herons", and nobody knows where it was). The mexica people fled from the Aztecs and, after a long trip, they arrived to the Texcuco's lake (today is Mexico City), they settled and founded Mexico-Tenochtitlan. During their trip they passed through Teotihuacan, that was abandoned and in ruins. They call it that way. Many experts believe that his name means "the place where the gods born", this is náhuatl, a language mostly spoken in the center of Mexico. Regards.

The biggest pyramid in entire world is just a pile of rocks with nothing inside. So in fact it's rather a kind of artificial mountain, and it's a pyramid only by name :). Do you have a video from Egyptian pyramids? There are no many cool places to show us.
