Hello everyone, in this video I will make Shawarmas that have been popular for 100 years, let's see how they changed and in which decade the Shawarma turned out to be the most delicious
Some people think that shawarma is German but it is wrong. Döner kebab or shawarma is all turkish and is made by the ottomans.

yes, puttin a big skewer and slowly cooking it, putting it in flat bread with some vegetables along the way is a really simple thing, so yes the ottomans were already doing that, but the modern version of the kebab was done by a Turkish immigrant in germany, but that turkish immigrant probably tested it in turkey, but the world wasn't so globalised back then so people rlly didnt know much turkish food, its like asking a european about tacos or noodles in 1900

In levant the idea of shawarma is simple
Chicken shawarma
Saj bread
Pickles
Garlic sauce "thoum"
You can add tomato
You can add cabbage or lettuce
Beaf or lamb shawarma
Saj bread or pitta bread
Pickles
Taheni sauce
Onions
Tomato
I've never heard of shawarma with ketchup or cucumber or tomato paste, and it's small chunks of meat
Recently there is a new shawarma called Saj shawarma
Tortilla bread
They grill the meat on heated metal
And serve the sauce outside the sandwich
The sauces are

Garlic
Pomegranate molasses

Shawarma as a word, originally comes from "Çevirme" from Turkish and that has the same meaning with "Döner". You can see in Türkiye and in Europe as "Döner Kebap". In time, every community made their customized "Dürüm/Wrap" with their own style.

In Turks, we call Shawarma Döner (Doner). It is divided into two: meat and chicken (there is also sausage doner, I don't count that). Meat is more expensive but tastier, while chicken is relatively cheaper. Both are sold in packages in markets.

They are two different dishes, there is no lamb or cow shawarma. Shawarma is only made with chicken, dunner doesn’t use any sauses most of the time mena while shawarma is full of them

I lived in Saudi Arabia for a lot of the 70s and 80s. I probably ate thousands of shwarmas, and not one of them looked like anything you just made. If you said 100 years of wraps, maybe.
