There was a time when Joan and Lita had not spoken to each other for years, so it was refreshing to see Joan being so complimentary toward Lita here.

one of the reasons why Joan chose not to participate in the edgeplay documentary, was her fear of mudslinging, and reopening up old beefs, Joan is extremely proud of the runaways, and what they accomplished, digging up old wounds, and hurling insults, was of nointerest to her. now that Joan's in the R&R hall of fame, let's get the runaways in!

It looks like Lita has changed a great deal. She doesn't seem to be the 'piss and vinager' she was in her younger years. I think loosing her kids to ex husband seems to have mellowed her out, grown up, so to speak. Her book is coming out soon, so we'll see what she has to say. But, I'm still a fan.

I discovered The Runaways when I was like 15 a couple of years ago and I remember feeling completely inspired by their talent and their attitude, I wanted to be like them! :D. Nobody gave them enough credit back in the 70s and I think they didn't realize the impact they had in that time. They are LEGENDS

  • @RickKepple

I love those ladies. Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Stevie Nicks, Ann and Nancy Wilson, Madonna and there are getting to be more and more women in music. I'm a widower. I watch lots of videos, and especially when there are closeups of the guitarist's fingers on the strings. I just recently started playing and people like Joan Jett and Lita Ford are just amazing. It's just cool trying to play, but if I could do as well as they do, I'd be a happy man. They have the coolest jobs in the world and they're good at it.

    • @RickKepple
      @RickKepple 9 лет назад

Oh gosh. Just ask Jim McAllister there. I started learning electric guitar when I was on morphine in May, 2008. Since getting out of the ICU in July, 2015, I play more Blues. I had to regain the use of my left hand and so I did more slides and it's kind of stuck. Now I can use more finger slides, hammer-on's, pull-off's, bend styles and I love the sustain. The song to learn for this week is Lynyrd Skynyrd's, The Battle of Curtis Loew, for a jam session on Friday night at my home where I live near Fort Leonard Wood in the Ozarks. The musicians who show up are sometimes old pros and sometimes raw beginners. We watch some music videos of various artists, start playing along with something and get our own groove that can go on for an hour or so. Lita Ford plays a version of, Close My Eyes Forever, on a doublenecker with Queensryche and it's about the speed of the tempo that I can play so far. She's very impressive to my military veteran friends. Thanks for asking.

Joan and her amazing, unique vocals/badas* rhythm guitar; "You Don't Know What You've Got" (B-side to "I Love Rock and Roll") was one of the first songs I learned to sing and play rhythm guitar to. And "Silver Wheels" --- omg, Nancy, --the prelude to "Crazy on You" is just totally outrageously awesome! :0)

The fact that most comments on here are about these women looking "older" than their age shows that sexism is alive and well. Have you seen Ac/dc, Tom Petty, Lemmy, Plant, Page, The Stones, etc? Do they look younger than their actual ages? Of course not. People praise their music not whether they look young or not.

"sexism is alive and well" you joking right? XD they said in the video -> "they traded in sexuality instead of quality" this still happens today, just look at Nicki Minaj shaking and twerking that fake huge ass, kardashians, miley cyrus etc... no music talent or quality just sex, almost naked, sex tapes, etc... people just don't evolve at all

  • @MGTV1

i grew up on all genres and i always appreciated both the runaways, and heart. the deal with rock, is that there is sex appeal. but these women were better than just good looking. they were also great musicians, and innovators. they have influenced how i play, and tempered my tastes for sound in a wide range. from the rawness of the runaways' grinding rhythm chops and dirty solos, to the classical and flamenco styles riffs and leads of nancy wilson. they were right beside the big boys all the time, in my book.

Listening to this in the 80s, I don't recall anyone thinking about "girls shouldn't be there", we recognized great music :) But I see that The Runaways paved the way - check out the Netflix (?) film about the bands early years.

That is very high praise from Joan Jett on Lita Ford, they hate eachother , as most lead Gituarists and 2nd Gituarists do , but for her to say Lita can rip a riff is amazing, and Lita was 16 when she did the early stuff ! Truly talented, gituar player. You watch her live , she just lays it out with style , all her later solo stuff she plays all the Gituar but in the vids you see others because record companies thought no one would believe she played it all ! Lita Ford a legend !

The last time I saw Ann was at the US Festival back about 1982. She had really let herself go, she was struggling to get out of a port-a-potty backstage. I think the industry viewed her as a marketable commodity that had become less marketable. The industry thinks like that. I spent 26 years in the touring music business, I saw record companies tell really good bands they were too old for the record company to invest in them. Heart was the first big band to tour in winter,1983, up until that tour, normal tours booked from March to sometime before Christmas and shut down for winter. Prince's Purple Rain Tour was the first 12 truck tour to go out in winter, starting and rehearsing in Minnesota.

As a teenager in the 70’s I loved Heart and The Runaways. I never thought that there shouldn’t be women in rock music. They rocked, and I wondered why weren’t there more female rockers? I wonder the same thing today. The Wilson sisters are still rocking, as well as Joan Jett and Lita Ford, but there aren’t many others out there, except for maybe Lizzy Hale. The best all female band I know of today is Band-Maid from Japan, but they haven’t “broke” yet in America. It’s about time for another American, all-female rock band hit the scene and make it big

@@MetalHeart8787 how many bands over the years broke up, hated each other, and refuse reunions?

That pretty much sums up every beef from the beginning of time.

3:30 "trading on sexuality instead of quality". Sad, because they are doing that today, more then they were back then.

After the invention and perfecting of pitch correction devices, the marketability of quality vocals decreased. If the management company decides one quality singer and two sexy ladies who can be eye candy and sing thru pitch correction devices is more profitable for a tour, that's what will happen in most cases. My singing voice frightens small children and birds but I sound great with pitch correction, maybe next, they can invent a pitch correction device for Major League Baseball?

Love Joan, Love Lita. Sometimes when I'm deciding which bike rallies to do, if Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are on the bill, decision made

That irritates me to hear about the female artists getting treated like that. The runaways were very talented and it is so gross that the men think that they are superior than women when it comes to rock music is just stupid. that still goes on today though too which sucks, look at the group The Donnas im sure they were influenced by Heart or the runaways and i bet they got treated crappy at times like those bands did as well. record companies would rather see a female artist look pretty and slink sexily across a stage and be girly than see a female with real musicianship playing instruments and rocking out.

Shocked, and I know that shouldn't be, but shocked just the same that someone from their label would start a lesbian rumour between two sisters - boggle the fuckin' mind.

It was the 70's, when 2 girls was a big male fantasy. It still is, but it's been 40 years. Back then there wasn't even video or porn or anything. So it seemed like a big scandal.

Uh...hello? There was a LOT of porn in the 70's! But the idea of "sisters" as lovers never really that big a fantasy (unless you're from Alabama...or possibly Germany - the Alabama of Europe).

The record company (Mushroom) put out magazine ads that said, "It was only our first time." If you google Dreamboat Annie ads, it's the first one in images.
